Something about that clear and meaty tone of Charles is just insurmountable. That is no dis on BEHS though. I actually prefer heavy metal more than jazz, (Slayer, Sabbath) but in the very best metal bands you can hear both influences (Gorod, Faceless, Megadeth, Rush). I appreciate the guts to duel against Mr Berthoud, but if I was forced to choose one bassist of you two to entertain a crowd for 30 minutes or more, musically and tonewise it has to be sir Charles. His technical prowess opens so many possibilities and styles to explore, there is so much variety.🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

@@briandoornink7597 that was an Ampeg Dan Armstrong model. It was pretty famous and most people think of those when they think of clear model guitars and basses. They're discontinued now and the vintage models you find online these days fetch a steep price.
I have a wacky theory that all these insane tappers have a background in piano, which makes it a tad bit easier to do that stuff. Could be wrong.Maybe.
I always wanted to learn the guitar but didn't get the opportunity until I was 38. My son was 10 and I wanted something that would we could do together. We started lessons and he left me in his dust. 20 years later I made the mistake of purchasing an acoustic bass but I will say that I found out that I should have picked up the bass in the first place. My biggest regret in life is that that I didn't realize it sooner. I'm not saying that it's any easier to learn to play. I found I had a better feel when playing the BEHS. I spent a small fortune on high end Fender, Takamines, Gibson, and Hamer guitars. My son has an awesome collection now and I'm left wishing that I had a nice bass and amp. Moral of this story. Don't buy an acoustic bass until you master an electric. 😂
I would actually counter your statement about acoustic bass. Mistakes are harder to notice on electric bass if you're using enough gain or effects but on an acoustic, you'll hear everything raw and unfiltered.
@@andypostema4269 I bought a Takamine acoustic bass. I'm actually a better at acoustic guitar than electric. I found the acoustic bass cumbersome but I also found out that I enjoyed playing bass as much if not more than guitar. Not only was the acoustic bass cumbersome, I found it limited for tone. Sadly, it's all pretty irrelevant now. I've got 2 expensive and beautiful guitars for wall hangers. Carpal tunnel from 40 years of bricklaying have my hands killing me.
@@TUSK1157 Just so that you know, if it is not there all the time butt only when your hands and arms are not moving for a time, it could be in your elbows or shoulders and there may be a neuropathy or pressure on your spinal cord in your neck. I'll pay a price for not having mine looked at more closely. Good luck, nevertheless. 😏
