  • Adem Fehmi is a Dog Trainer and Behaviourist working in Hertfordshire. In this video, he demonstrates how to overcome retrieve problems such as mouthing, dropping or not coming back with the article.
Adem is a keen believer in going back to basics, if necessary, and building up from there so that the dog is not put under too much pressure. Games are useful, too, to re-engage the dog's focus and enthusiasm and to remind them that training is fun.
He has lots of helpful hints and tips on how to address each of the problem areas and shows how to break the training down into helpful steps.

This is a great video for the basics. Few more of these “starting from scratch” ones would be brilliant 🤩

How do you teach a dog to retrieve if they’re not coming back with the toy? You mentioned going back to a long line. Are you throwing something then ‘reeling them in’ back to you to ingrain that, then move to off lead once that’s mastered? Thanks!

@@beauash9651 I am working on the same problem and its getting better. What I do is run backwards a bit while my teen-puppy is returning.

Out of interest, how do you address having the dog let go, if they don’t want to do so?
