I sometimes think that if someone is capable of beating a horse like that, what else are they capable of. The laws relating to horses, or any animals, welfare are pathetic, no more than a slap on the hand.

Foal or full grown, no horse does anything to deserve a beating. Sometimes horses (the young ones too), will challenge a person, but I tell my students you have 3 seconds to issue a reprimand. Get in, get out, and forgive. Move on. If you can’t do it before the 3 seconds is up, the horse won’t even know why you’re reprimanding it; because they’ve already moved on in their minds to something else. This is how they are with each other most of the time. If someone doesn’t have the skills to handle a particular horse, then they shouldn’t even attempt to touch them. I tell my horsemanship students all the time: “everyone who interacts with a horse is training it. The question is, are they training with positive results or negative results?” Even a LOT of well meaning people teach horses bad behaviors because they don’t understand how horses think or behave so they either anthromoporphize them or treat them like they aren’t thinking and feeling individuals and the horse doesn’t respect them as a fair leader. Another scenario is that the person is afraid and the horse knows it, so depending on the horses natural bent towards fearful or confident themselves, it either tries to be in control to the point that they start getting pushy, or they don’t trust the fearful handler to keep them save and they go into hyper vigilant mode and hurt the person with their flight responses. Some people think they are loving (actually spoiling) their horses and then they get hurt by the horse because it doesn’t respect them as a leader. I’ve worked with horses who have had all these types of owner/handler problems. Very few ever needed much more than some patient persistence with respectable boundaries in a quiet and consistent manner.

My take? That court sentence was basically saying they don't mind people beating animals. I've always felt that monsters who abuse others should receive the same treatment they inflict on their helpless victims. That, to me, would be justice. Having been around horses most of my life, I have seen this horse breaking method, unfortunately, many times! The theory, if there actually is one, is to break the horses spirit and make them fear you! According to these proponents, the horse will be afraid not to do your will. However the cruelty is unbelievable! One man I knew would frequently put his barrel racing horse through this torture, and on one occasion blinded the horse in one eye! This has been many years ago, but I hope the karma this man received was twice as horrible as that he subjected his horses to!
If someone had done that to any of my aimals I would be on a murder charge They ALL need to be fined, in jail and banned from been near ANY animal forever
I refuse to watch this video. The title and few seconds of film seen, make it very clear that whoever that man is he should be jailed for life. I agree, someone was beating a BABY. I have watched Barry Hook for horse training and those New Forest ponies are wonderful little animals. Glad you all were able to work with her on healing her of the trauma.

The sentence is far too lenient. The guy should be put in prison immediately upon conviction, banned from ever owning any animal, and community service after release. The owner should never be allowed to own any animal and should be doing months of community service at animal rescue facilities under strict supervision.🤬

My dad used to break all our horses himself & he NEVER hit or beat one. And taught us not to whip them or hurt them. They were our babies❤ and we loved them❤
If I understand correctly, that monster who beat the foal was given an order of a lifetime ban on owning a horse. But, he's still free to work with them??? The foal's owner allowed this? And it was only found out and reported b/c of the CCTV? (I assume that whoever saw this CCTV and reported it would have, if they'd been there, STOPPED it. I would've called the police, have twice done over dogs being beaten.) So I wonder how many other foals and horses has this man attacked before. Where there weren't cameras and anyone around who cared enough. This owner seemed to think this was "training" the way she sat there nervously allowing it. Makes me think this guy had a rep for working with horses and has likely hurt more, but w/o footage only the (liable) owners probably would know. Good to see the foal is doing well, though the way she looks around with those whale eyes...probably going to have lifelong issues because of this abuse. It's a damn shame that STILL so many people in the horse world believe abusive "breaking" is better than gentle handling that, in reality, is much easier, safer and produces FAR better results.
Faith is my dream horse and seeing this beautiful girl abused like that infuriates me! I don't understand how they can do that to any animal. The only explanation is evil....they are evil. I wish I could have her, but since I can't, I hope you find her a loving, happy forever home.

Having been around horses most of my life, I have seen this horse breaking method, unfortunately, many times! The theory, if there actually is one, is to break the horses spirit and make them fear you! According to these proponents, the horse will be afraid not to do your will. However the cruelty is unbelievable! One man I knew would frequently put his barrel racing horse through this torture, and on one occasion blinded the horse in one eye! This has been many years ago, but I hope the karma this man received was twice as horrible as that he subjected his horses to!

I refuse to watch this video. The title and few seconds of film seen, make it very clear that whoever that man is he should be jailed for life. He is a danger to all living beings and the public should be protected. Therefore: Life in prison for this piece of scum. And I hope the foal will find a truly patient and loving person to help him /her get over the trauma.
Anyone who could do that to an animal would do worse to a human.

I agree, someone was beating a BABY. I have watched Barry Hook for horse training and those New Forest ponies are wonderful little animals. Glad you all were able to work with her on healing her of the trauma.
Faith is extremely beautiful and those individuals who hurt her are pure evil and that includes the so called owner. The sentencing should have been far higher.

The sentence is far too lenient. The guy should be put in prison immediately upon conviction, banned from ever owning any animal, and community service after release. The owner should never be allowed to own any animal and should be doing months of community service at animal rescue facilities under strict supervision.🤬

I agree that this was absolutely awful. This man and the owner need to have lessons on how to treat animals - under strict supervision - muck out stalls - in addition to the sentences received. I hope Faith not only gains faith in humans again but also finds a wonderful home where the memory of her beating will probably still be in her mind but she knows she is safe now for the rest of her life. A beautiful little pony.

Suspended sentence is a horrible miscarriage of justice. Both of them should be in jail. I am surprised that the poor horse ever responded to anyone again. Thanks to all who helped to make him more comfortable. You could see his eyes following the woman as she moved. Just so sad.
So glad you were able to get her out of that hell hole. Both owner and trainer should have faced jail time. The trainer especially anyone that can do that to an animal is also a thrreat to people as well.

My dad used to break all our horses himself & he NEVER hit or beat one. And taught us not to whip them or hurt them. They were our babies❤ and we loved them❤

If I understand correctly, that monster who beat the foal was given an order of a lifetime ban on owning a horse. But, he's still free to work with them??? He didn't own this foal so, how does that sentence affect him???

The foal's owner allowed this? And it was only found out and reported b/c of the CCTV? (I assume that whoever saw this CCTV and reported it would have, if they'd been there, STOPPED it. I would've called the police, have twice done over dogs being beaten.) So I wonder how many other foals and horses has this man attacked before. Where there weren't cameras and anyone around who cared enough. This owner seemed to think this was "training" the way she sat there nervously allowing it. Makes me think this guy had a rep for working with horses and has likely hurt more, but w/o footage only the (liable) owners probably would know.
Good to see the foal is doing well, though the way she looks around with those whale eyes...probably going to have lifelong issues because of this abuse. It's a damn shame that STILL so many people in the horse world believe abusive "breaking" is better than gentle handling that, in reality, is much easier, safer and produces FAR better results.
Faith is my dream horse and seeing this beautiful girl abused like that infuriates me! I don't understand how they can do that to any animal. The only explanation is evil....they are evil. I wish I could have her, but since I can't, I hope you find her a loving, happy forever home.

This man is inhuman and he has no business being allowed anywhere around an animal. Does he not understand what the correct way us to handle horses, if mot, he needs to be severely punished and restricted from any interaction with any animal. He probably kicks dogs too.

Lifetime ban, yes, which the owner should have as well. But 5 months, and suspended at that?! Honestly, why bother? It should be years, not months and make them serve it.
