It’s super disappointing that the owner of this horse is not following through when it comes to his feet. Not every horse owner deserves a horse. Im SOOOO glad you mentioned about the chinese video's of donkey's and horse's having their hooves trimmed.(if you can even call it that) It's absolutely horrific, as you say and yet people are praising them in the comments! Those poor animals! 😢 Also I'm from the UK and had to look up what you meant by founder. We call it Laminitis!
Laminitis is inflammation of the sensitive lamina of the foot. Founder is what happens when laminitis isn’t dealt with and as a result the coffin bone detaches and rotates or sinks. Laminitis can be treated and the effects can be healed. Once rotation/sinking has occurred though the damage is permanent. A recovery can be made if rotation/sinking is not extreme. It will take a lot of time and major changes in management but it can be done. Now if the coffin bone goes through the sole or shows signs of degeneration/infection then the kindest thing is to give the last act of kindness.
the alternative in the countryside of those countries is the animals not getting seen or trimmed at all. Its tough to explain the situation in those countries that lead to that, but china is working on its animal welfare situation. The poverty in india is horrendous. So I'm glad people are at least trying to help those animals even if they don't have access to the tools and resources Caleb does.
Nice job Caleb. It makes me very upset and sad for this horse to see how bad his hooves were before you worked on them. Hey Caleb, I work in the medical field and have learned you can't save people from themselves. What is frustrating and heartbreaking is when a so called care giver doesn't allow us to care for a patient as we would desire. I "feel" about this horse, not his fault the owner isn't doing the right thing for him.
Nice job on his hooves. Im disapointed that the owners didnt get back to you and get him redone, he deserves better. My aunt had a pony that was born to big racing trotter Dam and Sire but she was a tiny little 12 hands high and a real little piglet when it came to food so on a regular basis she was put in the yard on restricted diet until she lost weight. My aunt was determined that she wasnt going to founder and kept a really close eye on her weight and always made sure her hooves (and all the other horses hooves) were well taken care of. I wish more people were like my aunt. Its nice to know you care enough to contact the owners in the hope to keep up his care.
It's such a shame to hear that the owners have never called you back for a trim. I pray they just went somewhere else and he's getting all the care he needs to thrive.
Dear Caleb, such wonderful vids and all you say is spot on. I used to keep horses and my oldest boy was a skew called Horace who was born in 1963. We had papers to prove it. Same family - us - all his life. Gorgeous animal. Never had laminitis. He finally left us aged 42 in 2005. He was bombproof. He was shod and ridden until he was 38 when his knees would take it no more. Shod and later trimmed every 6 weeks for over 20 years without fail by a lovely Farrier called Trevor. We all had such a bond with Horace and miss him to this day. As you say, horses are such tolerant animals. When Horace got older he never needed a bridle he just became like a big dog. He never bit, kicked or stable walked. His hay was always soaked, medium warming food, loved malted chaff him. And at night last check on him he’d be laid down and he’d let us trusted ones sit down with him You have a wonderful job, Mr Caleb. May you always stay so motivated and humbled by it. God bless, Sir. P.S. I am so disappointed by owners who do not care. What shame they should have.
As far as getting someone to film for you, you have two options beyond hiring a cameraman. First would be to take on an apprentice farrier and have him film. The second option would be to let various subscribers in your area film for you. Set up a network of people who are willing to film for you if they are available. Then, put the word out, and the first person to contact you for the job gets it, and the second person will be the backup if necessary. Option two is riskier, but it does rewards your subscribers.

I've always said that Horses and Dogs are Healers. They are so Forgiving and just want to help us, whether we deserve it or not. You are absolutely correct. We really don't deserve them.
I'm so glad you mentioned overseas farriers. You're absolutely correct. I can't watch the videos anymore. The men treat their animals so badly - most are mules and donkeys. They're scarred, underfed, never been brushed, sport open wounds, and are openly beaten. Their hooves are an atrocity - overgrown, painful, missing parts, dry, cracked, and curled. I don't think any of the owners should be allowed to own and be responsible for their animals. It breaks my heart. Great explanation of "founder"/laminitis.
Glad to see his back hoofs were not quite as bad as his front...nicely done...and I'm sure the horse feels better standing more level (If you think about the confirmation of the horse, a lot starts from the ground up...shoulders/hips/spine affected by the stance of the feet). No accounting for the decisions of some people...perhaps this owner feels some shame, so is reluctant to schedule you again. All we can hope for is that he gets some help for this horse. When I saw the Asian hoof choppers on RUclips I was appalled. They called them ‘master’! That was more appalling. Got to thinking about it though; those donkeys had nothing else; never in their lives will they see a real farrier. That’s really sad, but so much of the world is like that😢😢
I agree. Why doesn’t this happen more often? I actually said this on a horse rescue video recently. One of those constantly asking for money. Got blocked.
Hi Caleb - I've seen videos where the farrier uses a torch on the bottom of their hoof after the shoe is removed. Have you ever had to do that? It seems to loosen up to make easier cleaning

Any updates? I'm sad the owner didn't follow up on a regular schedule to get these issues taken care of.
No unfortunately
Yeah, I'm really disappointed with the owner here. Such a noble animal deserves better than this horse is recieving.
Can’t someone report the horse is being abused ! I would think there would be a ton of people who would adopt him 🐴 call me a bleeding heart ❤️ but I am all about the horses welfare and not the owners feelings being hurt ! I believe in stewardship over lordship !
When I saw the Asian hoof choppers on RUclips I was appalled. They called them ‘master’! That was more appalling. Got to thinking about it though; those donkeys had nothing else; never in their lives will they see a real farrier. That’s really sad, but so much of the world is like that😢😢
Such a shame. He's a cute horse! & perhaps still young? Very sad that they have not had you back.😢
Its sad when its out of sight out of mind
that's so sad the owners aren't following up. I hope he's ok.
Siete eccellenti in quello che fate, e molto anche quello che é il vostro pensiero. ❤❤❤
Report the owner to animal control for neglect and abuse.
I agree. Why doesn’t this happen more often? I actually said this on a horse rescue video recently. One of those constantly asking for money. Got blocked.
Great video, very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Caleb -
I've seen videos where the farrier uses a torch on the bottom of their hoof after the shoe is removed.
Have you ever had to do that?
It seems to loosen up to make easier cleaning
Yes I have I usually use it only when hooves are dry and hard
Are you able to make appointments to revisit the horse so this doesn’t happen again?
People can let "that" happen for many reasons. Ignorance. Poverty. Emotional instability. ...
It hurts my heart to know that the owner never gave you any call back for help for his hooves.
They adapt because they have to .
People who let their horse's hooves get this bad should have to walk on Legos for hours! 😡
