I really wasn't sure what to think when I heard Coachmen was coming out with a new decor inside their Freedom Express ultralites but I am definitely liking what I see! It makes the RV look and feel somehow "Richer" to me while also adding almost an enhanced sense of privacy and seclusion if that makes sense!
This model continues to baffle me! I'm still not exactly sure how they managed to squeeze a 72" x 80" KING Bed Slide + Living Room Super Slide into something just slightly under 30ft! Plus, with the weight reduction from the Azdel + wide stance axles it should still tow quite nicely & not simply be a "destination-use RV!"
The camp kitchen takes it right over the top for me. Inside and out it's just amazingly well done!

Here’s my 2 cents: door- put the shade in standard already!! And for the love of God, either put in drawer under the dinette booth or a sliding tray that comes out so I don’t have to pull the seats apart to get to the storage under the seats!!! Absolutely love the rest of the camper!! Would love to see a accent wall behind the bed with bigger shelves but not a deal breaker.

For a smaller camper, this unit is pretty awesome! It has storage for days! I think I would have chosen the queen bed for the extra room in the bedroom. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Josh, I really like the darker wood tones in this one and the way they offset the light colored walls and floor. I'm not normally a fan of the front windshields but with the way it lines up with the sink in the front kitchen here I think it works nicely. This is one Freedom Express I would consider.
Yeah sometimes I think windshields are applied where it makes less sense (like a private bedroom. In a front living or kitchen that start making sense to me again
Josh.... i keep coming back to this model and the more i look at it the more i like it. It’s got pretty much everything i like in a travel trailer. The king bed in the slide , the theater seats across frim the tv, the fireplace, the interior closet/ pantry space a booth dinette and that awesome camp kitchen . Also under 30 ft. This is definitely in the top 3 on my list.

An adult mattress, a ladder, a TV, theater seating, and is that a porcelain toilet😳 Other than the dollar store vent fan and the skimpy bedroom shelves, Freedom Express seems to be offering so much more than similar models from Cherokee and Wildwood👍
Freedoms are a personal favorite. They may not do EVERYTHING but they either really nail exactly what truly matters or at least prep stuff for easy upfits
Household outlets in the bed headboard area is the my only critique of this camper. Really great floor plan!
Lighten up the wood, put pull out storage drawers under the dinette seating for easy access of stored stuff

Your mention of how viewer feedback drove the fireplace got me thinking. What I’m about to say applies industry wide.
1. Door windows are mandatory. Either do frosted glass or (preferable) the tinted window with a shade. Come on folks get with it.
2. Stoves next to anything need not only a back splash but a side splash.
3. On 50A units that don’t have fireplaces how about installing electric heat elements either in the furnace or in the AC unit? I know Coleman AC’s for example are designed to take heat elements and it would be easy to put an electric heat element in the furnace. If I have the power I should have the option of taking the chill off with electric heat.
4. I think it’s past time that builders think about all the electric gear they are installing in trailers. If you have AC, a TV, a microwave, electric hot water, a 12v compressor fridge, that should be a 50A unit. You should not have to be budgeting your power use on the factory plug. So if your building a trailer that can easily overload a 30A circuit (like one that has all of the above) you need to provide a 50A panel.

Coachman really did good on this one, the pass-through storage is a huge plus and the large outside kitchen under 30ft is setup very nice👍👍

I accidentally showed this specific model to my wife three times now as our next camper.. It's perfect. I think I would give up some of the road mode for the at campground usability.

Just purchased a 2023 model and love everything about it. Have scheduled a trip next weekend for our "shakedown cruise" and can review it later. Drove it to our storage area and was 30 miles. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 (9500 lb tow capacity) with a tow package and RV dealer installed rear air bags inflated to 45 psi.Towed well until we got on the interstate and really felt the sway above 65 miles an hour. FYI for those with a 1/2 ton that this rig could do the same or maybe just a Ram issue. I plan on getting a 1 ton later but really like this Trailer-- 5 stars!

I love and appreciate the utensil drawer for the sink area over the sponge slot.
Wish they would do at least a basic pull shade on the door, it does not need to be a combo shade or anything fancy.

A small fireplace is ALWAYS a good thing. ALWAYS.
I've seen some that are physically smaller but the RV industry likes to use big ones. I'd love to see a few of the smaller heater units out there even if they're not always visually symmetrical
It’s the little things that add up to seal the deal. They should have included the door shade and a Max Air bathroom vent fan.

Josh I own this model and love it. The access with the slides closed isn't a deal breaker. Coachmen built this right and others have tried to copy and can't. Rockwood version doesn't touch what this camper has. This my friend is the best couples camper and I have looked at a lit of others and they don't compare.
As someone with a half ton with good credentials this is definitely on the short list. Has all the "must haves" and alot of the want to haves.
I love the electric space heaating fireplace in the entertainment center cabinet. This is a winner. Love the Expresso decor color, really rich looking. Love that it's under 30 feet as well.

Hey Josh. I love this video ! I've been shopping campers online now for a couple of months now, and I keep coming back to this video. In your words " it speaks to me ". I can see where there could be improvements made, some of which you've pointed out (thank youl), but WOW, This thing really checks all the boxes on my list. When I lived in Colorado , I grilled outside all year. Even in the snow.
My grandpa did the same.
It's was fun.
We use to go to the state park near us in Illinois,

Great floorpan! I like what they did with the front pass through storage under the inside kitchen, and the outdoor kitchen looks like something somebody could actually use. The trailer looks like it was designed by someone who actually camps.
It would be nice if you could access the bathroom in travel mode though........but that is just me. I have mixed feelings about the door shade as most RV windows are tinted and in most cases you can't see in anyway unless you have the interior lights on. At night, just leave the lights off and you can operate in "Uncle Gary" stealth mode and you'll be good.

This is about the best layout I have seen and I have watched most of your videos plus some others. My 2020 Ram 1500 is rated more than enough to tow it. The only negative is access in travel mode. That said, I think one could partially open the slide at most travel stops, enough to get into the bathroom and bedroom. If it weren't for money and health issues, I would be placing my order.
I have been told but some people you can keep the door open before closing the slide and that works but I have never tried it personally

Looking to upgrade from our existing camper......it's 13 years old, but we still love it......it's "spoiled" me for the large sleep space and storage.......no outside kitchen for me.....husband has his own outdoor cooking system......just gotta convince hubby we'd like a new one!!!!!! Dislike - window at the head of bed, - not enough drawers in kitchen
Great video, Josh! Ordered one last week with all the options, got the cloud interior color, 12 vdc frig, 2nd ac and a few more! We really like the floor plan and have been full time since 12\21 in our current Outback. Agree with a few others should have drawers under dinette benches, ave plans to make drawers for ours, also drawers under bed and possible make to queen size for a little more room on sides. Can’t wait for more room!

I love this, the interior is very nice. I would want a queen size bed instead of the king. As always, I agree with you, they should put the shade on the doors instead of just prepping them for one. I love the window above the kitchen sink, opens the space.

Freedom Express has really come on strong in the last few years and continue to get better they are a less expensive Cougar and Rockwood, I'm really starting to love them just nice really nice.
Pound for pound I've loved them for a while and they're they're a serious under-rated option out there
Loved the video Josh. My wife and I will be downsizing from our Coleman with a bunkhouse and this floor plan seems perfect for a couple. I have one small suggestion, however, this is not a dealbreaker for me. We are permanent campers and I spend a lot of time at the outdoor kitchen. I noticed that the outdoor kitchen counter stops at the left of the sink leaving an empty space for more storage. Why not extend the counter top to the wall on the left side giving more counter work space. I realize that you would not gain that much counter space but I would prefer the full counter top vs the storage area. Thanks again for the video
I am not totally sure but it's possible they were intending that space to help store something like the griddle or bracket?

Thanks for sharing this. It really makes me think of the mini Lite 2516S that I've ordered except with an extra dinette and a different configured bedroom. Watching it really makes me realize I love the second entry in the Rockwood and I'm not a big fan of the cabinets in the bedroom in this freedom. I do however like the dinette and the configuration of the dining living area. This floor plan would have been tempting had I seen it soiner except that I needed to keep my total length shorter.
I've watched lots of other sales videos and tours of RVs and nobody comes close to how much I enjoy yours. Thank you.

Well done Freedom Express! Not sure half ton towable (not out west with the cross winds we can get!), but still what a perfect floor plan with keeping it under 30 feet. Lots of good storage (pantry, entry closet, bedroom, linen shelves, and the cool U shaped drawer FE does!). Only thing I would change is the doors for access under the dinette (change to drawers), and not sure about the exit window at the head of the bed…I just think I’d knock my head on the release at night lol. Not sure how to change that though. Otherwise this checks every box (nice front kitchen, outdoor kitchen, great outside storage)! Great walk thru video as usual :-)
Yeah needs the RIGHT half ton for sure and even then it’s potentially situational as you mentioned
The dry weight is only 6,500 lbs which is amazing as is the 2500 lbs of cargo which brings it up to 9,000 lbs. I never need more than 1,000-1,200 in cargo so this a 7,700 lb towing proposition for me. That is easily within most 1/2 practical limits
@@SignalCorps1 depends on the tongue weight and payload capacity of the half ton (and what weight is being added in the truck). If loaded to 7500 lbs and assuming about a 900 lb tongue weight, some loaded half tons might have an issue with sticking within their GVWR.
@@IntothewestOkotoks You’re right 1/2 tons usually hit their payload limit before they’re towing limit, but tongue weight is only 750 lbs. I know the kitchen is in the front, but even in the 900-950 range it is manageable with a 1/2 ton rated at 12,000 lb towing and 1800 lb payload.
@@SignalCorps1 tongue weight when loaded up will be more than 750, I would almost guarantee that. And “most” crew cab half tons don’t have 1800lb payload - likely low optioned, properly equipped (“max tow packages”) will get close to 1800 lbs. most will be in the 1300-1600 range.
Love the fireplace, and my favorite darker decor. Love the fridge. These models are always providing great storage. I'm really happy with the dark cabinets. To me it's a great selling point.

Thanks Josh I like it. We have the 287 so the access to the bathroom was a life save this past summer when stopping enroute to our destinations. Not sure where I could put the cpap in the bedroom. I like the colours and kive the fireplace. We added the shades to our doors and two Maxx fans. Thanks for the review.

An idea popped into my head watching this video. Someone could easily do this after buying, but I think it would be great if Coachmen would do this: If you cut 4 holes at the base of both dinette benches, you could slide the free floating table over a foot to one side or the other giving a ton of room on one side for people with larger 'table muscles' and 'love handles'.
Not a fan. My spouse cooks and is left handed. That means I suffer. Left handers turn the pot handle to the right, hard to do when there is less than an inch of space.
Just did my final walk through before delivery ( In my home state). The thin shade for the door jumped to over $50, the additional hand rail is now $ 84 but the coolest thing is the included water feature in the front pass through. Remember, check all sink fittings before camping. The water line to the kitchen sink was loose and it made a neat waterfall into the pass through storage. I bet Josh's team would have caught it at PDI (Inspection)

I really like this unit with one exception. The Tootsie Toaster is a nice feature but, I think that it should be at the bottom where the cabinet storage is located. To me, it's only logical due to the fact that hot air rises
That looks like a very well thought design and Layout! I love that front kitchen and the Layout is pretty good too! If it floor heating vents I'd probably buy it when I get enough money

Definitely need the door window shade and the Maxaire fan in the bath. The pivot bathroom door, like on the Mirada 32ss class A might make the bath accessible in road mode.

My coworkers are sick of me talking about camper videos. LOL! With that said, I agree, Coachman is the brand that truly goes camping. This is about my outright favorite camper of all time, mixed through my indecisiveness with the brands, you videoed since 2017. Rockwood is my second choice next. This is B+ here, let's make it a A+. Below is my opinion that would pull Coachman away from the competition with all the boxes checked. The CEO at Rockwood then would be saying. "Hold my beer!" Here is where Coachman misses the mark.

• Good Year tires with temp sensors.
• Torsion axel's, like Rockwood.
• Max air fan with cover.
• Slam latches on all compartments
• Option in the mattress, I'll buy my own
• If there is a window there should be a shade.

12:32 Why do they not cut out a notch in the seam covering for the skylight frame to fit flush? Right over the shower it should also have clear silicone sealant around the edge.

I do like the new updates. Loving the king bed slide out! Not sure I'm a fan of the dark wood. Also would really love a more rectangle shower. We have the 2021 Freedom Express 246rks and are looking for the king bed option and slightly larger shower. Oh loving the theater seating too! Thats a must have too! PS..I want to buy our next camper from you!
Cougar offers a lot of King beds btw. North Trail does as well. They're becoming more common

@@JoshtheRVNerd yes we have been looking at that one from rockwood but love that this one has one door. Not in the market yet. We just bought a grand design 17MKE this past year and absolutely love it. Both my husband and myself are planning on retiring and going full time in 4 years. So looking forward. ( not that our 17 mke won’t work). We wish grand design made one similar. Love the quality. Well we have a few years. Thanks for all your reviews. We love seeing what other companies offer.
Really like this layout, very smart. Not a fan of the dark wood finish (which wasn't continued around the slide for some reason). Any scratches or chips will really stick out like a sore thumb. Had a bed that colour and had to touch it up with a Sharpie every few months. Great view thru the windshield, makes it a pleasure to cook. The fireplace is a great add. Might have been better exchanging the location with the cabinet below.

What is the situation with screens on the windows?? Hate the bugs… I will give up lots to have good screens, yet able to open the windows. Outside storage in the front is great!!
Any window that opens always has screens. I've never seen an RV builder violate that

Great floor plan. Only two things that I would change. 1- I don’t like having a window at the head of the bed. With the window on the back wall you really don’t need it. 2- I would like a 60 x 80 queen bed which would allow more room to walk around the bed.
Trimming down to a queen is always possible since there's a king there now

Thankfully those are pretty easy upfits we could always accomplish for a client. But I agree those are great features to have!
Josh we currently have a 2018 Freedom Express 248RBS, and like it a lot. Both my wife and really like what we see in this new larger model. It offers quite a bit more space, and looks as if it only tows about 1 foot longer than our current trailer. The way my F150 is configured, it would not have any problems towing this. I'd rather see a queen bed, or queen option personally because we're not particularly big people and are used to a queen, and it would leave a little more move-around space in the bedroom. But my BIG question to Coachman is: why do you cheap-out on the bathroom fan. They don't even put switches on the wall, and my wife cannot reach the built in manual lift and fan switch without a step stool. I replaced ours with a MaxxAir Deluxe that has a remote control. I know you could do the swap as a dealer, but their fan is out of place in an otherwise upscaled RV. Despite that, if I had the extra cash laying around, I'd be ordering one in a heartbeat.

I think you can shave the bed decking in this one and create a true queen if desired btw
I think that if the rvs or fifth wheels have windows in the entry doors that a shade should come standard in them an they should raise up from the bottom to the top that way you can leave it where you can still look out an see who is at your door without having to raise the shade up
Also a motor upgrade on the electric jack system , put 1 like a normal coach to change a flat ,people love upgrades and will pay the extra, changing a tire in the middle of no where its paid for its self . thx Brian

Sometimes those things hide in little corners and I don't catch them on a tour just scanning around. I would have to check in person (or ask one of our folks here) but I don't see where we have one on hand locally else I'd just hop out and check
I believe they have a set of USB's up by the TV area but not sure if they have some around the bedsides

2. Love the stone sink
3. Hate the double sink, much rather have the farmhouse or at least single bowl rectangular sink.
4. Love the outside kitchen with a real sink. Please make the camp kitchen refrig be 12v.
5. Prefer Rockwood theater seats with the arm in the middle that can go up and away.
6. Not fond of the dark at all though I can understand why some would like it. I can't understand how you think the natural looking trim goes with the dark cabinets.
7. Must have the electric fireplace BUT I'd try to re-organize the entertainment center to lower the TV another 6 inches.
8. Please add drawers to the dinette.
9. How many inches deep are those overhead kitchen cabinets? Are they actually useful for anything?
10. Shower / closet space utilization very cool.
11. Bath fan NG. Look at reviews across many trailer line. The comments are that the small fans are generally useless. Just put in a good fan in the first place.
12. Queen bed optional? Rather have that option with more useful side shelves.
13. Fully agree that the outside door should have a shade. And I like others recommendation for some sort of shade that may pull up from the bottom that lets you easily "peak" out the door without fully opening the shade.
14. The Rockwood 2608BS is my wife's favorite for far for a trailer. I only wish you could access the entire inside without having to go outside. The other concern about the 2608 is the kitchen counter on the front end. It's narrow, maybe too narrow. I've previously suggested that Rockwood move the big slide back 6" to accommodate a more useful sized counter.

the door window needs something, but I think I would prefer the one-way tinted glass over a shade.
Love that the bathroom can produce rock and roll, but doesn't make up for it not coming with a Maxi Air fan.
Another thing I would like to see is an electrical outlet on the left side of the counter (where you had the sink covers). It would have to be boxed in, inside the pantry, but it would only take up a minimal amount of pantry space.
Do the entertainment seats have the heat and massage?
By far this is my favorite unit! The only real negative I have is there is no covenant place to put a trash can near the sink/food prep area.. But I think a small one with coaster wheels that can be rolled from the door pantry over to the kitchen, when need, would work. So it is a minor negative.

@@JoshtheRVNerd Good News!! I do believe it does have the heated /message seats. I went to the Coachmen website and there they state it does. Then if you look closely at the 3:18 mark i believe you can see the button controls.
I love cold weather camping when there are less bugs and I dream , on a cold night, of sitting in that heated recliner , with the fire place warming my toes, watching a good movie.
@@jommmer It's not impossible BUT.. I've seen more substitutions ESPECIALLY on furniture this year than any other year combined until now. I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver if that makes sense
No household outlets in the bed headboard area is my only critique of this camper. Great floorplan!
Yeah they're down just beside the bed but not IN the bed slide itself
Super cool Floorplan, love the interior design not being all light or all dark. Really feels more homey and less RV-ish.
What is your opinion on build quality of freedom express compared to say, jayco or rockwood?
I would give Rockwood the nod but I personally really like freedom express and what they do and wouldn’t hesitate to have one myself

Tv cabinet design preference. Put the electric heater fp on bottom move t.v. down so not craneing your neck to see from the sofa and put cabinet above.
Yep, needs a shade in every door of every RV.. Too bad they couldn't fit stackable W/D in one of those closets. I'd be getting one of these..
Only other thing bad is, it's got alot of rear swing behind the axles..
The wide stance helps keep things under control while towing thankfully
This one does have the axles slightly more forward due to the front super slide giving it an otherwise out of control tongue weight

Not from the factory no. I have no specs to offer as a result

Love this floor plan. I do wish they would just put the door shade in since it seems like they went so far everywhere else. Also, maybe a factory option for an XL vent fan, either in the bathroom or the bedroom in addition to the second AC option. I wish they had a factory option for the slide awnings like Rockwood does. One quick question, is this a single dump valve location with it being a front kitchen and then having the camp kitchen drain all the way at the back?

I think it’s a double sewer outlet but I see too many rvs to remember them all to that level of specificity

I know you didn't ask specifically for this feedback, but since comments got the fire place.....lol. I know it might sound weird, but I really wish they would get rid of that window at the head of the bed and put a headboard there instead. I know I'd end up busting that shade with a pillow the first night in the bed. It's already got the side windows on the slide and the large window at the back.

Love, love, love the layout, fireplace, kitchen sink, camp kitchen, but I hate the dark wood. I have several pieces of dark wood furniture at home and any bit of dust, dirt or scuffing shows up really badly. Suggest hidden hinges on cabinet doors, pull down spray head on kitchen sink, shade on door (standard), bigger bathroom fan, non-plastic sink in bathroom, and place for cpap on both sides of bed with residential queen bed (option) to include outlets. Thanks! 😊

@@JoshtheRVNerd I liked this unit well enough to go and visit one adding it to our list for potential ownership. We liked the unit, but when compared to our first choice which is the Rockwood 2513S there is obviously some things that do not compare on the FE. So my question is, why is this unit 8-10k more expensive than the nicer built and similarly sized Rockwood?
@@jeffeversole291 The 2513S is like a mid-size sedan while this is more of a full-size sedan.
This is longer, taller, and has two big slides vs one small and one smaller on the Rockwood
That 259FKDS Freedom would line up head to head with the Rockwood 2608BS for comparison purposes
So compare a 2608BS Rockwood with the 2513S rockwood and I think some of that difference in cost will be easier to understand
