Great review, I've been waiting for someone to do a review. I bought this a couple months ago and I can't believe my lucky stars to get such a beautiful model for such a great price. I've been wanting a Bandit car for the longest time and since I got it, my ERTL Bandit itch has completely gone away, and I'm an ERTL guy just like you. Now I don't have the slightest urge to buy one, and before this model came along it was close to the top of my list. For the price it makes you wonder how they ever pulled off fully opening doors, hood/engine and trunk when Greenlight will charge you $80 for a car where nothing even opens. The slightly metallic paint is really nice, the graphics are very good, great wheels, I'm especially impressed with the wheels. The interior is where you see the price point show up, but for that price it's really not bad at all. The ERTL with gold interior appointments is superior, but that's not enough for me to spend a couple hundred dollars just to have it, I won't even look at it more than once or twice anyway. I'm a fan of the see through tinted T-tops as well as the headlights and front end, they both look better than the ERTL, yeah it's very impressive. I got mine for $34 twice the Sam's Club price and it's still a good deal, there's no Sam's Club near for me to check, so I did the best I could. Also I found the 1/18 scale license plates decals and I'll get those and eventually a CB antenna, and then I'm set. It's so nice to finally have a Bandit car in my collection, I've wanted one for the longest time but price was keeping me out of the club, not anymore! "I need a car" lays out the cash "I need a speedy car" lays out more cash "speedier car" lays out the rest of his cash. Remember that? Keep up the good work.
Hahaha thank you my friend! I will admit I love Ertl but if I see this before I bought my bandit, I would be buying the phone and spending that extra cash on a car I don’t have. Yeah I heard these were coming out a while back but overhearing CANADA. We are pretty slow get stuff, but thankfully, my friend went over yesterday and boom!! Thank you for watching! And I’m glad you got this beautiful car
I am so shocked I wasn’t expecting it to be that nice honestly a year and a half ago when I bought my bandit car if this car was out, I would’ve bought this instead lol
Maisto did some homework for this Trans Am. i got both colors, the black car like this one and the blue car. They probably have the best 1/18 1977-78 model out there up to now. this one being a 78 is not exactly the same as a 77, as this one has the WS6 style snowflake wheels, which on the real car is one inch wider than the regular snowflakes. So right there, you have a major difference from the 77 Bandit car. But Ertl doesn,t have a really good wheel to show for anyway. So scaore one for Maisto. The front end on the Maisto is way, way better than Ertl here, we,re talking about the grille, headlights and the front spoiler which is tons better. I had doubts the 78 T-top was like this but I was corrected, there were two versions in 78, the first version like these made by Hurst, and the second made in house at GM which were larger. The back end of the car looks great, again, the bumper's side profile is much better than the Ertl. The tail lights are excellent. ok so the chassis is almost generic Maisto, but the Ertl is not much more accurate, the exhaust system on both cars is wrong. There should be a Y as these years had a single catalytic converter. The interior is somewhat of a letdown because of the B&M shifter and the sticker for the dashboard. Can somebody make this better? I believe someone who builds model cars can modify some things to make it more accurate. But for a base price doiecast model, this one was knocked out of the park for sure. So yeah, I agree, these might go up in value because they look so good. How much though? Who knows? I guess we'll see. Get one while they're new. Not when they're out of production.
The wheels were so well done on the Maisto! I love my official smoky, but that's another thing thing is they did bad with the paint on that..... my official Smokey the paint isn't the greatest
Hello, I really like your videos, I follow you, if you can put a written translation in Spanish, it is the only language that has no option, thank you, greetings!
Both models have the wrong seat upholstery for a Smokey car.The ERTL has typical bad paint. The Maisto black metallic is not a factory color. The Maisto hood eagle is more accurate .The Maisto roof panel opening is the right width for a '77,the '78 roof opening was wider. So I would say at $16(Sam's,BJs) the Maisto is a great deal but not a Smokey model.
Yeah it’s not exact but to a casual fan or collector it works. I do know I see a bike in the last couple weeks in the licensed smoky cars I’m seeing on marketplace! If that’s related to the Maisto being released, I don’t know. But I think they did a great job on it. Am I trading my licensed one for it? No. But I think it looks awesome. And I agree about the hood emblem on the maisto being the more accurate I mentioned that in the video!! Thanks for watching!
I thought the same of the t-bar roof. But after some research there were two versions, one being from Hurst, just like the 77 and the GM factory units that were larger.
Honestly, the Ertl Bandit isn't the most movie accurate. That goes to the Auto World Trans Am...but even still, it has flaws. There's not one Bandit Trans Am model that's accurate. The bird on the Ertl one has always bugged me and I don't know why Ertl made it look that way. The rims are way too shiny among other flaws. I took the interior of my Ertl Bandit out and put it in the Auto World Trans Am.
Auto world trans am is very nice but if you mean the hemmings one, the interior is the wrong colour. Anyhow, I collect this stuff for fun, we don’t take it too seriously here lol, anyhow thanks for watching!
@@RetroCollectables absolutely! I just ran across your videos today. I'm gonna keep watching them. And yeah, I changed the interior of my Auto World and used the Ertl Bandit.
The Ertl tooling for this car is from the 1990's. So it's out of date and the diecast cars weren't seen as collectibles as much as they are today. So proortions might be off in many places for some models, Ertl has (many) better models out there, but the 77 Trans Am isn't one of them.

I like the maisto! Much better
They did so well by it! The rims! Thank you for watching
I've bought one but I own a real 77 black and gold trans am so it's easy to see what they've got right and what they've got wrong, 7.5 out of 10 👍
Ohhh buddy wow! You actually own one wow! Yeah, that's killer. I could see why you would want one of these then! And thank you for watching!
I love that car!!!
I am so shocked I wasn’t expecting it to be that nice honestly a year and a half ago when I bought my bandit car if this car was out, I would’ve bought this instead lol
Those cars are so cool.
Yeah buddy, I can’t believe this is a Maisto!
I have one just like that
They did such a killer job on it!

@@robertpoudrette4483 The movie car had the wider roof center, narrow panels
They are not at costco?....
Sams club exclusive. So Costco may get this car but not likely this colour
They're at Costco in this color too, I picked mine up a couple weeks ago.
