The Buster Sword is shown in-universe to be unweildable by anyone not a mako-infused super-soldier, so 1 is probably fair. I know there'll be demands for Sephiroth's sword, but I'd personally love to see you analyse Cloud's combi-sword from Advent Children. Fully combined, it's likely heavier than the Buster sword, but with a lot of potential points of failure, however the individual swords would likely be wide-spread in ratings.
Everything about the buster sword, all of it's variants, abilities, etc. really come down to the user needing to be incredibly strong - and magical. Dual swords can be useful, and we see them being useful in Advent Children - but that just takes an incredible amount of strength to wield two, big swords like that. And the fact that he can swing the full thing like it weighs nothing is most of the power the sword has - it's even about the sword, really. Then, having way too many swords is only useful if you have a magical attack that lets you levitate them and shoot them at your opponent, or if you can fly around and grab them as you need, leaving them around strategically.
Most of them are perfectly fine type XVIIIb and XXa, appart from some of them having a wonky pommel (and a very few having weird blade shape) there wouldn't be that much to say, 90% of the swords in the game would be just "it's a longsword, it works".

Problem with the Witcher swords is none of them are all that iconic. None have a significant enough design or silhouette to stand out. Most don't have any story significance either, and those that kind of do (like Aerondight and Iris) only have a miniscule importance at best. In the end, all the Witcher swords just kind of blend in with one another; there's not a Sting, Dragon Slayer, or Master Sword among them that sticks out in anyone's mind. The Witcher might have a place in pop culture, but the swords absolutely do not.
I would literally pay money to see you guys do an episode on fan-made sword concepts sent to you by fans...and not just because I have my own that I would love your opinion on.
So fun fact Shad I have a 3d model I have printed for the Soul Reaver. Total length is just about 45 inches. Blade from tip to skull mouth is roughly just under 30 inches. The Handle from pommel to the connector to the skull is 9 and a half. Skull from connector to mouth is 5 and a half to 6 inches based on if you include the fangs or not. The Cross guard is at the widest 12 inches. From the tip of the guard near the mouth to the back of the guard near the handle is 7 inches. The guard thickness is just under an inch it moves in and out so its not constant. I didnt include the blade thickness because its actually thicker then its suppose to be as I needed to adjust to make a 1/2 inch bar go through to act as the Sword's spine. Now its actually a fairly comfortable sword to swing the balance point is the skull just over your hand and the length of the handle makes it a reasonable hand and a half sword I dont find issue using it one hand or two handed. Now the Handle IS round for my version but it has a spiral cut into the handle which actually makes it stick in your hand and the edge alignment seems to happen naturally. I think this might be because of the guard they naturally want to align because of that. But all that said it would be VERY easy to make it oval shaped and the spiral to disguise it. And this is the issue I think you guys run into some of these swords are actually better then you realize because you actually havent gotten a chance to use it. Yes looking at it you can spot flaws but when in motion and at play those flaws might actually disappear like how the Blackbird plane when it was on the tarmac was a leaky mess but when in the air at speed it was a sleek Mach 3 bird. So for some of these swords it might be a good idea to mock them up and try them out. You might be surprised how good it works when it actually is being used vs just looking at an image.
-The Heron sword from wheel of time -Hiccup's flaming sword from how to train your dragon -Sword of the creator from fire emblem 3 houses Those are my top 3 picks for now.
Chainswords are used by everyone in the Imperium. Orks have their own version with Chain Choppa. The Craftworld Eldar have a sleek variant used by the Striking Scorpions.
you know what my favorite thing about the Striking Scorpions, they are the stealth ambush units, with chainweapons.... nothing says i'm better at sneaking up on you like having a revving chainsword and still being effective.
The thing about that chainsword is that it isn't built like a chainsaw at all. It is built like a trenching machine. Trenching machines also use a chain, but instead of little blades for cutting wood, they have thick hooks for tearing and digging through hard dirt and rocks. It kinda doesn't matter if they get dull because they aren't cutting in the first place. They are ripping and mangling. That being said, you couldn't possibly use it in real life. You would need incredible strength to prevent it pulling itself out of your grip. It's also enormous and heavy.
Last time, when you did Skyrim swords, you forgot the Daedric artifact, Dawnbreaker. If you do not mind, please cover that when you get a chance. It’s a personal favorite. There’s also the delightful selection Elden Ring (+DLC) has on offer.
I think we need an Excalibur off. Who truly made the best legendary sword? I mean that poor blade has been abused in some of its depictions in the many series it appears. Sword in the stone, Soul eater, Fate, Sword art online and a major whole butt load of other media.
If you continue this as a series I'd have a few ideas: Since the lighsaber is already rated, what about Vibroblades? The closest in real life are ultrasonic knives. High-Frequency Blades are basically the same, but from the Metal Gear Franchise. Either Raiden's unnamed sword or Sam's Murasama. And since the Buster Blade was brought up, what about the Muramasa from Sephiroth? Probably the same as a Katana with size advantage/disadvantage. Also, as a Sephiroth cosplayer I can tell you that a sword with that length is surprisingly fast to move. (As long as it's 1.4kg) And if you make a Buster Sword, but adapt it to real life a bit (thinner). You can make an ~7kg sword. Also one minus point for Imperious: If you make one the wrong way around, you can't carry it with your dominant hand. Edit: Also a sword that is way out there: "Battle Cry" from Brütal Legend, worn by Lars Halford
Sorry Shad, I would give Imperius a 2 at BEST because of how thin its blade is. If it had all its magical properties I would give it an 8. A 9 if the blade wasn't so wide.
And if it weren't so thin as to sheer itself apart in the swing, it would be so blade-heavy as to be a bit of a wrist-breaker. It's like a rapier with a triple-wide blade. Not to mention how much that Tang would be a critical point of failure under impact stress. I would never want to wield it if my life were on the line.
So, unrelated, but regarding Imperius, it is used one way because of the hand guard ; how would one use the secondary blade ? Why have a blade on that side at all ?
As a former lumberjack, I 100% agree with the low rating of the chainsaw sword. Those things will get dull in *literally* one second if you accidentally touch the forest floor with them while you're sawing. Dirt contains sand and rocks, which dull the teeth way faster than you'd think. And they're heavy. However, they'd be great if your enemies were super slow and not wearing armor.
Some magic sci-fi metal takes care of both problems; it's super durable and light enough to swing around. The bigger problem is their visual depiction: the teeth are only half the width of the "blade" Game's Workshop's artists had _never seen a chainsaw_ back in the 80s when they made the original designs.
As a former lumberjack you should have realized that chain sword is absolutely nothing like a chainsaw. It is more like a trenching machine with thick hooks for tearing through hard dirt and rock.
One of the worst issues I see with the WH40K chain swords is that rest of the blade is wider than the chain part. It's just going to stop as soon as it's deep enough for the sides to hit.
Check out Battle Angel Alita's Damascus Blade from the manga. There were originally 2 blades mounted to her forearms, but later she turns one into a giant butterfly sword!
@@EpicRandomness555 i would like to think it would be a good sword as a trend I am seeing, a the less elaborate a sword is, the better the functionality is.

Seifer's Gunblade, Hyperion (Final Fantasy 8) 5. Blaze Edge/Blazefire Saber, Lightning's Gunblade (Final Fantasy 13) 6. Yamato (Devil May Cry) 7. Rebellion (Devil May Cry) 8. Future Trunk's Sword (Dragon Ball Z) 13. Kadaj's Souba (Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children) 14. Genesis Rhapsodos' Rapier (Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core) 15. Brotherhood (Final Fantasy X)
Show version of Dawn was dogcrap, putting a sun on the hilt of a random steel sword was a joke. Where was the magical, milk-white blade forged from a meteor with similar properties to Valyrian Steel (but predates Valyria by around 3000 years) that might actually be "Lightbringer" the sword of Azor Ahai himself, the weapon that defeated the White Walkers 8000 years ago?
As others have pointed out, even the imperial guard uses chain swords, the thing about warhammer 40k weapons is that there’s so many variations of every weapon, size variations for different types of units and races. I think it’s important to point out that being hit with one would be akin to being hit with a heavy mace, at the very least, and that’s without taking the chainsaw into account. So you could see it as a heavy blunt impact + mechanical cutting/mangling wounding effect. It sort of makes sense in universe, as you could see it possibly being laid onto armor or something and being used to cut through it. Against an unarmored person even in real life I’m sure it would end your day, or your life.
Also chain swords come in all sorts some are Chain, some are reciprocating, some are vibrating. And they all have blades that have blades that have molecular tech cutting.
I remember a mention by Commissar Gaunt where he's recalling a fight and talks about reversing the direction the teeth were moving so it kicks a different way on contact. I found that quite interesting at the time.
While all of that is true, the fact of the matter is that a sword is *designed* for combat with other swords as they said. And if you pit that chain sword against another sword, it isn't going to go well for the chain sword user. It's a cool design, but if you can't be honest with yourself and admit when something isn't realistic and just accept that, then there's no point watching this video.
so interesting thing about the soul reaver, while I do respect the fact that yeah round handles are kinda bad, it actually makes a -little- sense if you take into account that the sword in question was never meant to be used by a human. It was meant to be used by a vampire, specifically an ancient vampire, who all have hands which consist of two forward talons and one 'thumb' talon which, when closed, actually end up being much rounder than a human hand and thus ergonomically one could explain why the handle is a lot rounder to account for this. That said, still makes edge alignment a nightmare.
The Valentine/Ivy Blade is impossible without magic or something similar: it supposedly operates on telepathy to a degree, allowing Ivy to manipulate it far more than one could a whip.
LOL. They filmed that Masters of the Universe live action movie all around where I used to work in Whittier, CA. Came around the corner one morning and our parking lot was full of spaceships.
Excalibur from the 1981 Excalibur movie. Red Sonja's sword from the 1985 movie. Dar's sword from Beastmaster (1982 movie). The Sword of Troy, from the 2004 Troy movie. Icing Death and Twinkle, Drizzt Do'Urden. OK, it's not a sword, but Chingachgook's gunstock war club from Last of the Mohicans (1992).
Soul Reaver's handle looks as if it's made from Chitin, rather than metal. I would definitely dock points for the Highlander katana for having a really uncomfortable handle and pommel. A seven maybe.
As someone who owns an official Marto replica of the Ramirez/Connor katana, even though it's purely a decorative weapon, when I do handle it (when I clean it, I still swing it around a bit just for the fun) as an adult I've come to realize why the hilt is terrible lol. I've had that sword for 26 years now. The movie grip was clearly significantly thinner and had far less protrusions in the decorative carvings, making it much more practical to wield.
I'm waiting for the Tri-bladed sword as well because that one's going to be all kinds of interesting mess lol. Oh, speaking of all kinds of mess "swords", there's a bunch of oddball ones form that one manga / anime series Blade of the Immortal. It'd be interesting to see how low several of them score since they're mostly impractical outside of very specific / niche applications.
I'd love to see Zar'roc and Brisingr from The Inheritance Cycle/Eragon. You could see the movie version of Zar'roc but fan art/ man at arms for Brisingr
You guys always try to rate this stuff practically. It would be a really fun video to see you rate this all in universe. With all the perks that come with that
I think chainsword duels were depicted in Gaunt's Ghosts. Special techniques are involved when fighting with them whereby the wielder rev and reverse the chain in order to pull or push the opponents weapon in unexpected ways.
The Green Destiny was definitely a good one. I'd love that perfected Master Sword redesign from the old old video. I know The Sword of the Rivan King from the Belgariad world fail, basically a solid magic meteorite metal sword, oversized and originally wielded by a next best thing to literal giant. And the magic living rock made it so that only one person could pick it up and the live, as well as all setting all the way for the approved wielder. I think it would like to see some swords from some comic books make an appearance. Or maybe some other swords from the Zelda series. It's a shame the Red ranger sword was so chunky.
They tested the Urumi on Deadliest Warrior (remember that show?), actually. They did some pretty nasty cuts on ballistics gel dummies. Not _damage_ , mind you, just _cuts_ .
If you want glorious absurdity of a sword the Dragon Buster from The Legend of Dragoon is amazing. The "blade" is fire that is physical enough to cut and pierce, the "blade" can be whatever length it's wielder wants it to be, and the sword attaches itself to it's users hand/arm when the user summons it.
Your reaction to Green Destiny shows you guys need to do a deep dive into Chinese swords, both Jian like the movie sword as well as Dao profile swords. Maybe you guys can get LK Chen to work with you!
In defense of the master sword: 1: the "discard" is to protect Links hands when he performs the "fatal blow" 2: the hilt is made of timeshift stones which is lighter than steel. 3: the blade is made of master ore which is lightweight because we can see others beside Link hold it.
1: Disc Guard not discard, and the crossguard would do that just fine. Also not all games have the deathblow yet that disc exists on all versions. 2: Fantasy materials and magic are disregarded for the purposes of this review series, this is why Shad's own sword scored so low because it doesn't get to be its fantasy magic metal. 3: See 2. In other words: the master Sword is not a well designed sword. They have had many games and now more modern games with better resolution to potentially thin-out things and swap out the cylindrical grip, basically they have had every opportunity to refine the design but have actively chosen to keep it that way so it is crap and always will be.
Also, they are working off the assumption that the hilt has to be made of steel or brass. .......what about brassor steel plated with flushed rivets. It is historical think to have hilts made of different times of material together, just look at migration era swords. Also, personally, why is the imperious hilt so pointy. TBH, I can imagine grappling techniques were a opponent shove the hilt points into the wielder
@@PJDAltamirus0425I don't think it should have the points pointed towards the wielder at all. It always bothered me when he showed what the sword actually looks like. The one I had pictured when I read the book was more like a basket-hilted broadsword with spikes on the basket for hilt-bashing. If the points pointed towards the wielder were rounded rather than pointy it would be fine.
@@agsilverradio2225 Not really, because no, it is not there to protect his hand during one particular move he doesn't even use in all the games yet the guard is there in all the games. More like grasping at straws to salvage a bad design.

If you want a decent attempt at 40k commentary of normal people using chainswords, then I direct you at Guant's Ghosts series. Specifically "First and Only" I believe, I think chapter 28? They show how duels are done between chainswords wielded by normal humans. (Yes, there are sized down versions that are much lighter.)
Honestly Shad, and everyone else who likes quality military sci fi, should just do themselves a favour and read (or listen to; all the Gaunt's Ghosts books are now available on Audible, and most of them are narrated by highly talented Toby Longworth) the entire Gaunt's Ghosts series - truly excellent books that manage to capture the esprit de corps of fighting men brilliantly even in the extreme 40K setting.
There's always going to be some of those. Shad's not doing these videos from a strictly sword fighting like they are point of view, but more of a "How practical and / or functional would these really be?" point of view. We've always wondered about it, Shad's just trying to answer what we're curious about in his own way by analyzing it from a curious person's viewpoint.
@@cocodojo I will criticize that a perfectly functional historical sword doesn't get a 10/10 because it's not a longsword essentially. The Green Destiny jade is a WRAP/Shroud of jade. the hit itself with the images shows an arched metal hilt inside. So the 9 still stands, but thought I would point that out....
Yeah, I was going to say that. The jade on the Green Destiny appears to be decoration (pinned to?) a less busy metal crossguard that is almost the same length (side to side) as the jade, but somewhat shorter (height).
@@brianiac5_ If you look at the image showing the bottom, the jade wraps underneath and isn't two pieces. thus why I called it a shroud. though designs may vary depending on the "hero sword" and "action sword" images used.

The "cross guard" on chinese sword is meant to be a hand stopper (so you won't cut your hand when you thrust something hard). It never meant to be a protection from enemy weapon.
Chainswords are 100% used by normal people in 40k (well normal genetically). They're just scaled down. Part of the issue is they look thick because they carry over from the minitures. if made thinner I think the thickness would not be an issue. The thickness is less a lore situation and more a modeling situation and thus the art stemming from the models. Sisters of Battle use Chainswords, I know that for sure. In addition there are two handed (zweihander) sized Chainswords, including those wielded by fully unarmored Sisters of Battle (Sisters Repentia) One aspect I've noticed with those is the blade has no guard on the back side, thus making it a double sided "blade" Side note: there are other "Chain" weapons as well, such as axes and polearms. Claws and fists, although I think the Chain Fist is just a fist with a chain saw sticking out of it.
Most chainfists are a first with chainsaw. But the weapons Tyberos the red wake uses are power fists with duel chain swords mounted on he palm. (He is a monster standing over 11 ft tall in armour, so everything about him is huge) I am certain there may be others that use a similar design somewhere in 40k

With a chainsword you swing it like a sword. The individual teeth still cut like a blade. However when the blade hits flesh, a trigger in the grip is activated and the teeth dig in and cut like a chainsaw. Its also the mechanism and metals used are universe specific

I believe the goddess sword also has a shorter balde than the master sword, not by much but noticeable, also looking at other swords from Zelda, especially Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom would be interesting Edit: in terms of the Master Sword's thickness, there are seemingly 2 designs, one being much thicker, seen in the WindWaker for example, and a thinner, longer one seen in other games like Twilight Princess and seemingly even thinner and longer in Breath of the Wild

you know what my favorite thing about the Striking Scorpions, they are the stealth ambush units, with chainweapons.... nothing says i'm better at sneaking up on you like having a revving chainsword and still being effective.
@@theelephantandtherider9536, they achieve stealth by keeping their chainswords off until the moment they strike for that ultimate moment of surprise.
The only unwieldly variant is the evisorator.
He was focusing on *non* unique swords that had both one hand and two hand variants, being able to be forged by the player was optional.
Oh, and the Bloodskal Blade.
Older TES games also have interesting weapons to analyze, like the chitin swords and the Daedric Crescent from Morrowind.
Shad you forgot to make Titan drop his jaw by telling him what's your sword blade is made out of I still remember that episode you said wood
Tyranth became a titan lol
If you're talking about Imperious, Shad said it was made of a crystalline structure

@@-Gax-it's made out of wood transformed into an indestructible crystal by the in universe magic
@@comlitbeta7532 Which is practically just fossilized wood by real standards.
Petrified wood is rather heavy.
I think we need an Excalibur off. Who truly made the best legendary sword? I mean that poor blade has been abused in some of its depictions in the many series it appears.
Sword in the stone, Soul eater, Fate, Sword art online and a major whole butt load of other media.
an Excalibur showdown would definitely be interesting
Sword Art Online could be an interesting discussion...since they're all virtual reality weapons...
Doesn't change the fact that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
The version from the movie Excalibur would win. It's an actual English Longsword.
There is also Excalibur from Merlin
If you continue this as a series I'd have a few ideas:
Since the lighsaber is already rated, what about Vibroblades? The closest in real life are ultrasonic knives.
High-Frequency Blades are basically the same, but from the Metal Gear Franchise. Either Raiden's unnamed sword or Sam's Murasama.
And since the Buster Blade was brought up, what about the Muramasa from Sephiroth? Probably the same as a Katana with size advantage/disadvantage.
Also, as a Sephiroth cosplayer I can tell you that a sword with that length is surprisingly fast to move. (As long as it's 1.4kg)
And if you make a Buster Sword, but adapt it to real life a bit (thinner). You can make an ~7kg sword.
Also one minus point for Imperious: If you make one the wrong way around, you can't carry it with your dominant hand.
Edit: Also a sword that is way out there: "Battle Cry" from Brütal Legend, worn by Lars Halford
Um, actually, Sephiroth uses the Masamune.
@@andrewli6606 You're right. After Sams sword I thought "masa" is correct and then added the front part, not the latter.
For how much he says about not liking spiky handles and guards, he then added six massive spikes to the guard of his own sword and takes off no points
He only takes off points if the spikes are facing towards your hand, not your enemy.
@@aaronbrazinski5370not all spikes are the same
So, unrelated, but regarding Imperius, it is used one way because of the hand guard ; how would one use the secondary blade ? Why have a blade on that side at all ?
Optimus Prime's and Megatron's swords from Transformers: The Last Knight would be fun to see
As a former lumberjack, I 100% agree with the low rating of the chainsaw sword.
The bigger problem is their visual depiction: the teeth are only half the width of the "blade"
Game's Workshop's artists had _never seen a chainsaw_ back in the 80s when they made the original designs.
They wouldn't be teethed to cut wood more like bone saws
As a former lumberjack you should have realized that chain sword is absolutely nothing like a chainsaw. It is more like a trenching machine with thick hooks for tearing through hard dirt and rock.
You mean you don't have the Hallmark 40000 Chainsaw Samurai Pro, Self Sharpening Blade?
*Shameeeeeee!!!!*
Shad has already reviewed the movie version. It wasn't good.
Would love to see a rating of swords from The Chronicles of Narnia.
Yes! Peter’s sword!
@@EpicRandomness555 i would like to think it would be a good sword as a trend I am seeing, a the less elaborate a sword is, the better the functionality is.

3. Squall's Gunblade, Revolver (Final Fantasy 8)
4. Seifer's Gunblade, Hyperion (Final Fantasy 8)
5. Blaze Edge/Blazefire Saber, Lightning's Gunblade (Final Fantasy 13)
6. Yamato (Devil May Cry)
7. Rebellion (Devil May Cry)
8. Kanshou & Bakuya (Fate/Stay Night)
9. Arondight (Fate/Zero)
10. Saba, White Ranger's Sword (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)
11. Raiden's First High Frequency Blade (Metal Gear Rising)
12. Future Trunk's Sword (Dragon Ball Z)
13. Kadaj's Souba (Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children)
14. Genesis Rhapsodos' Rapier (Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core)
15. Brotherhood (Final Fantasy X)
My recommendation is Dawn from Game of Thrones and all of Zoro’s katanas from One Piece. Great video guys!
They give EVERY katana a 9. LoL
Needle from Game of Thrones, too.
Here is the usual full support for channel growth. I am really digging this new series by you guys.
I like how your sword has the exact opposite problem as the buster sword!
The Buster sword has no problems.
It can be a shield, construction beam and sword.
The jade pieces of green destiny look like decorative pieces with a functional cross guard under it.
What about the Swords from the Devil May Cry Video Games like Rebellion and Yamato
It took me erasing my search history and curating my liked videos for RUclips to recommend a shad video.
32:30 You opened a door here; I now suggest looking at other swords from Power Rangers/Super Sentai.
Saba!
Can you do a Power Sword from 40k? It's pretty unique as far as sci-fi swords go.
Yeah, the whole disruptive energy field thing is cool
Arguably, you could do all 40k melee weapons, and it would be fun
No, you couldn't because energy fields like those used in Stars Wars, Warhammer, Star Trek and co are currently pure fantasy.
Unique, as in sci-fi flavored sword qi.
They did lightsaber though.
Keep in mind, they make human sized chainswords as well. So it's not exclusively an Astartes weapon.
My favourite shad series most definitely
so interesting thing about the soul reaver, while I do respect the fact that yeah round handles are kinda bad, it actually makes a -little- sense if you take into account that the sword in question was never meant to be used by a human.
Please do swords from Elden Ring next!
W dono
Also a great idea
@@galactigo4463 Especially because of the new categorie of light greatswords introduced in the dlc
+1 for Twinkle and Icing Death. Though it may be a bit hard to decide on a definitive version because there's quite a few that differ wildly.
They did that version of Excalibur. 8 or 9, I think due to weight balancing.

I think chainsword duels were depicted in Gaunt's Ghosts. Special techniques are involved when fighting with them whereby the wielder rev and reverse the chain in order to pull or push the opponents weapon in unexpected ways.
Imperius actually looks pretty cool.
Lol a new species of dinosaur has been identified! The "chainsauwrwr" good job shad!
Chainswords aren't just for astartes, they make human sized versions as well. And 2 handed versions called executioner chainswords.
Also a Ripper from Fallout
Could you do Peter's sword from Chronicles of Narnia?
There actually are ultra-thin swords. The Urumi from India, for example, is actually wielded like a whip.
There are, but they wouldn't get a high rating either. Probably about imperious, though maybe a bit more for the reach.
They tested the Urumi on Deadliest Warrior (remember that show?), actually. They did some pretty nasty cuts on ballistics gel dummies.
Not _damage_ , mind you, just _cuts_ .
Heck yea new shad video
If you want glorious absurdity of a sword the Dragon Buster from The Legend of Dragoon is amazing. The "blade" is fire that is physical enough to cut and pierce, the "blade" can be whatever length it's wielder wants it to be, and the sword attaches itself to it's users hand/arm when the user summons it.
I know it's not a popular anime/manga, but all of Manji's weapons from Blade of the Immortal would be a cool analysis.
I was just suggesting this, but yes, there's quite the arsenal of them to nitpick, but a few that does look surprisingly practical!

The best zelda sword is the ordon sword from twilight princess, it's basically a normal but thicker arming sword

Your reaction to Green Destiny shows you guys need to do a deep dive into Chinese swords, both Jian like the movie sword as well as Dao profile swords. Maybe you guys can get LK Chen to work with you!
In defense of the master sword:
1: the "discard" is to protect Links hands when he performs the "fatal blow"
2: the hilt is made of timeshift stones which is lighter than steel.
Only point one is relivent to this analisys.

I see the Soul Reaver, I click.
Also, you really need to talk about the books in the background, the room looks so cool!
Seen a video of someone talking crap about shadiversity earlier, screw that dude at least these videos are fun to watch.
So pretty much all East Asian swords are barred from getting a 10/10. And shorter swords. And single-edged swords. Like criticizing a pistol for now shooting as far as a rifle.

The Green Destiny jade is a WRAP/Shroud of jade. the hit itself with the images shows an arched metal hilt inside.

im so happy to see the reaver turn up it makes me SUPER happy as i grew up with the legacy of kain~
"Its a chainsworr not a chainswarr" gotta love the english accent 😂
The "cross guard" on chinese sword is meant to be a hand stopper (so you won't cut your hand when you thrust something hard). It never meant to be a protection from enemy weapon.
Chainswords are 100% used by normal people in 40k (well normal genetically). They're just scaled down.
Part of the issue is they look thick because they carry over from the minitures. if made thinner I think the thickness would not be an issue. The thickness is less a lore situation and more a modeling situation and thus the art stemming from the models.
Sisters of Battle use Chainswords, I know that for sure. In addition there are two handed (zweihander) sized Chainswords, including those wielded by fully unarmored Sisters of Battle (Sisters Repentia) One aspect I've noticed with those is the blade has no guard on the back side, thus making it a double sided "blade"
Side note: there are other "Chain" weapons as well, such as axes and polearms. Claws and fists, although I think the Chain Fist is just a fist with a chain saw sticking out of it.
In the real world I would definitely take the chainsword over Imperius. I think a spiked club is better than a limp dick.
Most chainfists are a first with chainsaw.
But the weapons Tyberos the red wake uses are power fists with duel chain swords mounted on he palm.
(He is a monster standing over 11 ft tall in armour, so everything about him is huge)
I am certain there may be others that use a similar design somewhere in 40k
Honestly they should do a Final Fantasy special reviewing all the main character swords.
I absolutely love the new sit down and analyze sword videos. I was getting really sick of The sword review videos of just let’s just cut a pool noodle. I just don’t find that content particularly interesting. I prefer sparring analysis. And it’s just the same thing over and over again. These videos are fun and it is a good way to diversify the content without spending a lot of money. I think you should do different weapons like maybe pop culture, bows or masons. And pleas bring back fantasy re-armored or theoretical videos like how would fighting a dragon would actually work. Those videos were so useful as a writer.
I agree, but I definitely still like the sword reviews.
@@gooseguyfilms4460 I’m not against sword reviews I don’t like the style of sword reviews In recent videos if it was more analysis and sparring, I would be more interested. just testing with water bottles and pool noodles is boring to me. The Soul Reaver? Shad you mad lad. You awaken so many memories. I love the Legacy of Kain games.

With a chainsword you swing it like a sword. The individual teeth still cut like a blade. However when the blade hits flesh, a trigger in the grip is activated and the teeth dig in and cut like a chainsaw.
Its also the mechanism and metals used are universe specific

You more or less covered my points so the video is off to a good start.
Time to watch the rest!
I like that Shad admits the real world flaws of his own blade. Knowing that it was simply because of the lore of his world
The MC's sword from the manga Countryside Swordmaster.
For the Green Dragon to it looks like the jade is mounted to the cross guard as decoration.
Highlander macleod has a smaller crossguard than some of the swords at my historical fencing club. There's no way it weighs more than a crossword with a double ring added to a long sword
You guys should totally do all swords from 40k there some epic designs in there!
I want you guys to do a pop culture/video game wooden sword review. Like the wooden swords from Wind waker, Ninja Gaiden, and other games. But review them on how they are used against their respective enemies at the time of acquisition in game.
So nice to see the Soul Reaver being ranked.
The movie Brotherhood of the Wolf had probably the best representation of a whip sword
I believe the goddess sword also has a shorter balde than the master sword, not by much but noticeable, also looking at other swords from Zelda, especially Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom would be interesting
Edit: in terms of the Master Sword's thickness, there are seemingly 2 designs, one being much thicker, seen in the WindWaker for example, and a thinner, longer one seen in other games like Twilight Princess and seemingly even thinner and longer in Breath of the Wild
