I liked your take on this and you are so right ... you can't please everyone. I agree. Not being hugely into Metallica there's a lot of their albums I'm not familiar with so I couldn't do a proper ranking... but I thought your video was refreshing to watch. 🤘🤘🤘

100% agree with this ranking. This is exactly how I would rank their records. Currently giving Death Magnetic a spin, such an great comeback album. People praise Hardwired alot and rightfuly so but Death Magnetic is easily better, just miles ahead. If the mixing was a bit better it probably would've been in my top 5. Anyhow great video Mr Boulder. Spot on with this ranking
I think a lot of hate comes from the fact that people love the first 4 so much and they dropped so far. They not only changed with the Black album but they changed the guitar tone after that from a metal tone on the Black album to a rock tone on everything else including Hardwired. It's still just a rock tone. I think Lars was always sub par but he was hidden by the surrounding music but when that wasn't there he was then exposed.
Growing up during the post black album era Metallica, the albums Metallica, Load and Reload have a special place in my heart and I don´t hate those like many others do but I do listen more to the earlier stuff today. St Anger and beyond are more of unknown territory for me. I do own Hard wired to self destruct and Death Magnetic on vinyl but I do not play them a lot. Cool ranking James, if anyone is going to rip you a new one it will probably be (like you suspected) about having Black Album over Ride the lightning, but quite honestly I love black album.😄
Excellent personal ranking! My favorite has always been Kill 'Em All. I would often listen to this when I was doing a tempo run. It's raw & fast which got my blood pumping . Brings back fond memories. Cheers!
My dad had master of puppets on vinyl back in 1986, signed by all 4 members of the band including cliff burton. Sadly my dad passed on since 2002 and since then he had given that record to one of my uncles who still has that signed record in good condition as far as I'm concerned but damn it, I want it back.
Man we have almost the exact same ear or taste in Metallica music. Wholeheartedly agree that Trapped Under Ice is soooo underrated. MOP is definitely their best album. The only difference for me is that I have Justice at number 2 and RTL 3rd KEA at 4th but they're all very close after MOP. I also found it very interesting that you love Struggle Within. That's another criminally underrated song. Love the beginning military sounding drums and bomb drop riff. Great video and list my man.
Both Trapped Under Ice and Struggle Within are underrated Metallica songs. Their 80's output is untouchable. Thanks for watching and commenting fella, much appreciated
Another killer list dude! Yet again we agree that Puppets is THE undisputed king of Metallica albums. As you say - flawless. Orion quite simply the greatest instrumental piece ever recorded IMO. Faultless masterpiece. Surprised to see ride down as far as it was! For me - the 1, 2, 3 are puppets, ride, justice but we are splitting hairs when discussing the minutiae that makes up the differences! Again, stellar work pal!
Master of Puppets is an absolute beast, one of the best Metal albums ever recorded. Ride The Lightning is great but I definitely don't love it as much as others do. Cheers as always Matt
another person who loves disposable heroes, we love to see it! we have the same top 5, mine is just switched a bit. 1. ride the lightning 2. master of puppets 3. black album 4. kill em all 5. justice where would you put 72 seasons in this ranking?
I generally like Load and Reload as well, but it is funny that you don't like Bleeding Me (Load) and Fixxxer (Reload) - they are probably my favorite songs on their individual albums. But great list!
Cheers fella. I love Load, uts an album that gets unnecessarily hated on. Reload has its moment's but its definitely weaker. Thanks for watching and commenting
I agree on most of this as well. When Metallica Black album came along, they lost lots fans, gain lots, the Metallica AUDIENCE kind of changed. (I love it) Its the first album i heard of Metallica, then a friend brought over Ride The Lightning, and I'm like 😍🌩💣Next, I bought Master of Puppets, I literally listened to that MORE than any other music I had for well over a month. I couldn't put it down.
I completely agree with your opening comments about the negativity. It’s easy for us to go overboard with our criticism isn’t it. At least it is for me if I’m not careful. I was step for step with you until you got to number 5 but at least we ended up at the same place 😂😂😂. Great video Mr B. I enjoyed it 👍🏻👍🏻 (Anthony)
Great over view of the discography. Been picking their stuff up last couple of weeks. Find the albums very enjoyable so far. Must on CD as the reissue vinyl for this band are extremely expensive. Highest priced vinyl at my local record store. Been watching your videos really enjoying the content and you have a great knowledge, of the musical content and layout. Have a good one Tom.
Love seeing support for the black album. Some of their best riffs and guitar harmonies ever and I would say without question James’ best vocals of any album.
I'm gonna say it's there best album. In my opinion anyway, I think nostalgia gives those first few so much love which is understandable, u see that a lot of the time where someone's favourite album by a band is the first one they got into depending on their age. I've listened to the first 4 recently and in my opinion puppets is way overated, title track starts off great but gets boring in the middle when it stops and starts back up, battery is a stupid song lyrically. Is he singing about a car battery or something, sanatarium is a good song. But to me the album is not as good as it's made out to be. The debut and ride the lightening are better in my unpopular opinion and in justice would be my favourite of the early ones.
Great listing. The only one id swap is to make Ride The Lightning number four and Black number five. Bought Kill Em All the first week it came out and hadnt heard anything like it before! Just subscribed.
Yep defo with you on the ranking top five timeless albums. I read that there actually is a copy of Master Of Puppets in a vault in America that is part of a Library collection of important humans music from all time if we were ever made extinct. Also i heard as well James dislike of Escape on Ride The Lightning but it was a song partly pushed to be on the album as it was slightly more "radio friendly" and it has a very catchy chorus guitar.
Top 5 are absolutely essential mate, some of the best Metal album's ever recorded. I'm definitely in the minority with my love of Trapped Under Ice and Escape, for me they are underrated Metallica songs
1. Ride the Lightning 2. Kill 'Em All 3. Master of Puppets 4. ...And Justice for All 5. Metallica 6. 72 Seasons 7. Hardwired...To Self-Destruct 8. Death Magnetic 9. Garage Inc. 10. St. Anger 11. Load 12. Reload 13. Lulu
Finally, another person that considers FFWF one of the greatest songs they've ever written. It's my favorite off RTL and may very well be in my top 5 songs from the band. The intro/that fast crushing riff that fades in/James vocal delivery/one of kirks best solo's without a doubt/the duel guitar melody after the solo..Watching them play this as an encore at Metal Hammerfest 85' is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Hetfield was possessed and as far as I'm concerned when Metallica were at their very peak live. Metallica showed that they can be just as brutal as any other thrash metal band in the 80's with that song. They just know when to put on the brakes and add a plethora of dynamics to their music when they want to. I honestly don't need to get any faster or heavier than FFWF and Disposable Heroes, Dyers Eve etc. That sh*t is timeless.
Interesting to hear your thoughts on these albums. I think you make a fair point about Lars and his drive and passion for the music, although I think in the 90s he made some strange decisions regarding the musical direction. 🤘🤘
1. And Justice for All 2. Master of Puppets 3. Ride The Lightning 4. Metallica 5. Hard Wired to Self-Destruct 6. Kill 'Em All 7. Death Magnetic 8. Load 9. ReLoad 10. St. Anger

@@mrboulder9714 this comment was for a different channel George G was ranking acdc albums but while I was writing, auto play went back to your video and comment ended up here lol.
Three years late, but my personal ranking is as follows (including their latest album): 11. St. Anger 10. 72 Seasons 9. Hardwired 8. Death Magnetic 7. Kill 'Em All 6. Load 5. Reload 4. Ride the Lightning 3. Justice 2. Black Album 1. Master of Puppets I am one of the very few that prefers Reload over Load
My genX ranking would be: 1. Master of Puppets 2. Ride the Lightning 3. And Justice for All 4. Kill em’ All 5. The Black Album 6. Didn’t pay attention to anything after the Black album
I'm one of those people who abandoned Metallica after the Black Album which, although it had some good songs on it, never really did it for me. I absolutely loved them before that and was really excited when I knew it was coming out and even went to a preview at Hammersmith Odeon but I was pretty disappointed by it. Even though it's over 30 years old I still think of it as their new stuff! I haven't really been into what I've heard since then either so I can't really rank their later stuff. My top 5 would be: 5. Black Album 4. Kill 'Em All 3. Ride the Lightning 2. Master of Puppets 1. ...And Justice for All It's really tough to choose between Puppets and Justice because they're both such brilliant albums but Justice just edges it for me. Like you it was my first Metallica album so that probably elevates it that little bit for me and pushes it into first place.
Great ranking. Enjoy your descriptions and view. Me, 1) Kill Em All 2) Garage Days ep 3) Master pf Puppets 4) Ride the Lightning 5) Lu Lu 6) And Justice for All the rest
My ranking 10) St Anger 9) Load 8) ReLoad 7) Death Magnetic 6) Hardwired To Self Destruct 5) Black Album 4) Kill'em All 3) And Justice For All 2) Master Of Puppets 1) Ride The Lightning
My fav is Ride The Lightning. It's basically the template for the next two albums. Example: Fight Fire w/ Fire. Clean guitar intro that leads into a speedy thrasher... Battery, Blackened. Second track, is the title track... Master, Justice. The "ballad" at track four. I mean, Fade to Black, Welcome Home, and One are basically the same song. They all do the EXACT same formula. Clean guitars (basically the same notes on all these intros) with two Kirk solos and then segue into a thrashy heavy ending. Throw in an instrumental (well, practically an instrumental with To Live is to Die) and it's the same formula. I'm a huge fan of Ride, Master, and Justice. Is Master the band's apex? I can see that. The production is spot on. But for me, the leap the band took from Kill 'Em All to Ride was such uncharted territory. They had yet to repeat themselves. Master is often regarded as their best but, it is a re-hash of what they just did. That's why I think Ride The Lightning is their best and my fav.
That was a great ranking mate, and well thought out and your opinions were explained really well! Can’t really argue with MoP as number one it’s absolutely fantastic. Nice one James!
Great ranking Mr B, my top 3 would be And Justice, Ride the lighting and Kill. Never got into Master when it came out but really appreciate it now, I think St Anger is great and Trapped under ice is one of my favs too, definitely underrated. Take care mate and stay safe.🤘🏻🤘🏻
If you want to listen the best version of …And Justice For All! then you should get the Columbia House Pressing! That version doesn’t use the DMM (Direct Metal Mastering) and the bass drums are very powerful on this one! The problem is it’s very expensive because everyone found out that this version kicks ass and the price keeps going up! I was very lucky to snipe this for $75 in mint condition, never been played!
Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and Ride The Lightning are my top 3 in no particular order. Never that keen on Kill Em All, and never got into The Black Album. One album I love thats never been that popular is Load. Not sure why, but that album just clicked for me. Lot of great tracks on that, with Outlaw Torn being my favourite
Nice list mate! Metallica is gonna be 40 this year!!! 🤘🤘 I was thinking about doing a Metallica discography ranking on my channel to celebrate my favourite band ever. But you'll have to look out for it if you wanna find out my list 😀😊
@@ScreaminT81 Ah right that's really cool. Yeah I knew it was in the Autumn time, but not sure on the accurate date. I'll defo do something that day though don't you worry! 🤘🤘🤘
Just discovered you recently! I like your stuff. I like every Metallica album, sure St. Anger is rough but I still enjoy it, my least favourite thing about it are the cheesy lyrics, the snare drum? Lack of solos? Don't care. It's a fun album, just some of the lyrics make me cringe. All the rest of them I really enjoy, have no problems with them. Master of Puppets is probably my favourite album, favourite Metallica songs overall would definitely be For Whom The Bell Tolls (AMAZING SONG) The Thing That Should Not Be, Fade To Black, Welcome Home Sanitarium and maybe actually Just A Bullet Away. Really like most of their stuff though. For Whom The Bell Tolls I tend to put on quite a lot, the instrumentation on that song is just fantastic, and that groovy guitar. Personally I like James voice in all of his albums but I much prefer his younger voice in the first 4 or 5 albums, sounds more unique. I think I agree that Black Album is better than Ride the Lightning, both great albums and From Whom The Bell Tolls is my favourite Metallica song ever.... but Black Album personally just has more good songs on it.

A little late but yes Metallica is one of the most important bands ever. Been my favorite band since '93. I just wish they would put out more material in the last 20 years. 8 yrs between albums is to long to wait.
Agreed. Metallica deserve a lot of credit for having the balls to do something different rather than just churn out the same thing over and over again. Thanks for watching and commenting
It's not strange at all, we're all different all have our own opinions, that's what makes album ranking video's interesting. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
Im not a huge Metallica fan but I do like some of their stuff, black album in particular, I remember buying st anger and I really liked the first 2 songs but couldn't listen to the rest. I also think death magnetic is a really great album, and I obviously like the first 4 aswell.
Completely disagree with Load/ReLoad, but hey, I kinda like being in the minority with those two. My ranking, best to worst; Master Of Puppets ReLoad Kill ‘Em All Ride The Lightning Load Death Magnetic Metallica Hardwired…To Self Destruct 72 Seasons …And Justice For All St. Anger Lulu (if you want to count it)
The only and correct order of Metallica albums: 1) MOP. 2) KEA. 3) RTL. 4) AJFA. 5) Black. And then the rest. This was the best era when significant creative talent was involved (Mustaine was a heavy influence on KEA and RTL, Burton was a bass god on MOP, KEL, and RTL. Kirk was young and hungry, still borrowing heavily from Mustaine. Newsted came into the picture on AJFA and that album and AJFA was a departure in song structure in a leap forward fashion. Black was another re-birthing of metal, for highly polished fast hard rock metal that was more commercially palatable and radio friendly. After that Metallica began a decline, a few albums later released Newsted (big mistake), and has not been relevant to me since Black.
@@mrboulder9714 Possibly true, but my analysis and the issue is Metallica went from arguably undisputed best metal band in the world with their first 4 albums (I'd say Megadeth was a close 2nd with KMB, PS, SFSGSW, and RIP), to average at best in the 2000s. Unfortunately Metallica lost and never replaced the ultra creatively talented Mustaine, Burton, and Newsted. I've noticed most of their concerts I watch are 90% songs from the 1980s-1990s because that's what fans love. Hammet is a great guitarist but I'm not a fan of Trujilio and I don't think they compare to their predecessors in talent and creativity (as is pretty evident by their music post 2000).
@@mrboulder9714 100% agree, their first 5 albums put Metallica as the best metal band in that era (as I've mentioned, Megadeth is a very close 2nd in that era, first 5 albums).
Definitely agree, so many people hate on the black album and it's just not deserved in my opinion. Great songs and epic production from Bob Rock. Thanks for watching and commenting
Master and Lightning are the gold standard for thrash. They changed everything for me musically. Nothing is on par with these 2 in my humble opinion. Rust in Peace is close, but I find Lucretia and Dawn Patrol to be useless. I also dislike the slow middle of Holy Wars.
I personally think Load is a fantastic album. Super underrated has some awesome songs. Reload is a bit boring minus a couple of songs. Death magnetic is a great album too. Hardwired is also a bit boring but still has some good tracks. Their first 6 albums are my favourites
I think Load is really good too, Re Load is very patchy though. Hardwired is good but too long, could easily cut 3 or 4 songs from that and it would be better for it. Cheers for watching and commenting
I’ve always liked Reload better than Load lol I hated both eras of the band. They played the old song’s horrible in 1996-99. It seems like they were trying to give the old songs more of a Load sound or something lol I really think they made a huge step up when Death Magnetic came out
I’m with you on St Anger, I give it a listen from time to time. It’s still the worst thing that Metallica has done though😝 we don’t differ much on the rest of your ranking. Cheers 🍻
Greetings, here is my opinion: 01. Ride The Lightning 02. Master Of Puppets 03. And Justice For All 04. Black Album 05. Kill 'em All 06. Death Magnetic 07. Load 08. St. Anger 09. Reload 10. Hardwired To Self Destruct P. S. If I'm going to judge by the new song, 11th place is reserved for the new album. We'll see!
@@mrboulder9714 You're welcome, I love to hear the opinions of people from all over the world. Me and Kill em all were born in the same year, but Load and Reload albums came out when I became aware of heavy metal music. Fortunately, they were not the first to come into my hands.
Thanks for getting in touch. Good to hear your opinion on these records. Yeah the first 5 are pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned. Cheers fella
St Anger is the best DEMO album ever made. That's all Bob Rocks fault about the production and the snare doing turned off. James Hetfield was going through some stuff then.
I think unforgiven 3 would be a good song if they didn't call it unforgiven. If you compare it to those 2 then no shot it's good. But that's because it stands on it's own
You make a very good point there, it's not as good as the previous 2 but if it had a different title it would stand out alone in its own right. Thanks for watching and commenting
As years go by, I can appreciate St Anger more and more. You might hate me for this but I genuinely enjoy St Anger much more than Reload! Love the rawness and crap production, because of that it creates/adds a certain character. Reload has got to be the most bland and boring record by these legends.... but sadly St Anger will never get respect 😉🤘
StAnger definitely has some quality isnlet down badly by the piss poor production. Reload is not a great album, very bland definitely. Thanks for watching
I'm almost 50...grew up listening to Metallica...the Black album was their last great album.... everything after that up to 72 Seasons is just a few good songs...nothing memorable.
Personally, I think that both the ability and the courage to go to different places to explore different things in different areas is the sign of a great band. A genius band. Metallica is that.
I agree. Most people just wanted to make the first 4 albums over and over again, but they changed things up and conquered the world. Cheers for watching and commenting
You are NUTS to put the Black album before RTL. Turn in your man-card. Black is just a commercial (read: women) rock album, complete with ballads, to make $$$ and for MTV. Yes it's good, but not "great." However, RTL is raw metal. I generally agree with the rest of your rankings. MOP, KEA, RTL, AJFA, black are my rankings. A note about MOP and KEA: These might be contenders for the best albums, especially for the genre, ever produced (very minimal competition, notably Megadeth's Rust In Peace and Peace Sells). But Metallica really was lightning in a bottle on these albums. I was obcessed with Metallica in my youth, I still consider their first 4 albums (KEM, RTL, MOP, AJFA) as pinnacle metal albums. Black is a very strong more commercial heavy rock album. After that, they fell apart and sold out. They lost their true talent (Mustaine, Burton, and Newsted), and clearly floundered. As much as I like Hefield, Ulrich, etc. they are not the creative talent that they had before... Metallica hasn't written or produced much good since Black about 30 years ago.. Sad... Evidence most of their post 1992 stuff is garbage, they RARELY play anything since in concerts and mostly play songs from their first 5 albums. Because almost everything since the early 90s is not very good.
If i prefer The Black Album to Ride The Lightning, then my man card is just fine where it is thanks. Master of Puppets is an absolute beast and one of my favourite albums ever. I still think Metallica has released some really good stuff these past 30 years. I think Load is a really good album.that gets hated on just because it's different. The last 2 albums have been decent but way too long, if both cut,3 songs from the tracklisting then both would be better for it. Cheers for watching and commenting fella 👍
@@mrboulder9714 Good to hear from you. Of course we all have preferences. I believe I can persuade you to change your mind. I tried to break it down in a "head to head" matchup but coult not do so efficiently. I've found the simplest explanation. Ride the Lighting offers us 8 tracks, 7 of which are better than anything on the Black album other than, arguably, "Enter Sandman." All the other songs on Black are weaker than the first 7 on RTL. I would go so far as to say that about 5 of the 12 songs on Black are just not that good and are very forgettable. I'd like to hear the counter argument as to which songs on Black, are better than any of the first 7 on RTL. Black, I think is the first of their albums to give us a ballad and not offer any long instrumental (e.g. Orion, Anesthesia, Call of Kthulu, etc.). Of course Black was very commercially successful to a wider audience, very polished, very simple concepts and radio friendly music, it's less metal and more hard rock in a very linear fashion, but that bolsters my argument that as a METAL album it's not as good as RTL. RTL showcases easily the "best" era (the first 5 albums). It offers us the 2nd best lineup (Lars, James, Cliff, and Kirk) while still using 20% of Mustaine's music giving us the "occult" feeling offered on the first 4 albums. I struggle to know how a serious fan puts Black before RTL....
Metallica, like a male Tomcat who vigorously sprays it's territory at least once a day, were as adamant about everyone and every fan knowing just how underground and anti-corporate they were which is what attracted a lot of people to this band - sadly, enter their "black" album ...
11 St. Anger (too much bad production) 10 72 Seasons (unnecessarily long) 09 Reload (Load leftovers) 08 Hardwired (half great/half filler) 07 Load (too much hard rock/grunge/blues) 06 Death Magnetic (sh*tty mixing/mastering) 05 Kill em All (too juvenile) 04 Metallica (one or two fillers) 03 ... And Justice For All (you know what's going on here... ) 02 Ride the Lightning (not the best production yet) 01 Master of Puppets (their best album)
1. Black album ( I dont like Nothing else matters....so boring) 2. And Justice For All (Shortest Straw and Dyers Eve...so cool) 3. Master of Puppets (Battery and Disposable heroes is the best song in this album not Master of Puppets) 4. Reload ( remake of Black album but it no one cares) 5. Load ( They dress like pearljam whenever they play live) 6. Kill Em All (Motorbreathe and Fourhorsemen = METAL) 7. Ride the Lightning (Everybody say that this is the best album but not for me) 8. Death Magnetic (Back to Thrash??? I dont think so....) 9. Hardwired to Self Destruct ( Heavier Version of Reload) 10. 72 Seasons ( Now they have Alternative metal album...it sucks like St ANger) 11. St Anger ( though I listen a lot to Sweet Amber and The Unnamed Feeling)
The logo on the Load albums perfectly illustrates what those loads of ,,, ,,, ,,, those albums are. Just like the logo the music is defanged and removed of all bite, enthusiasm or energy; a castrated band completely lost as far as identity goes. Boring insipid and self-indulgent trash (not thrash lol) that makes for great aids to all insomniacs out there. At this time the band was more interested in wearing make-up, fancy suits and going to high profile clubs with lots of mirrors and straws... basically becoming the posers that they used to make fun of. As you can tell I'm not as nice as you as you about these albums lmao! Fiddlesticks! I would put St. Anger above them both, as at least that one has sincerity and a modicum of bite back, and was made when honestly a new album altogether was in question.
I think a lot of the hate, is to literally wind up the hardcore fans, who drool over the band without any sort of criticism. I still love the first four records, as they’re the pinnacle of the bands discography. You nailed it on Lars drumming. If it wasn’t for his drive and abilities to promote, they wouldn’t have made it. Especially after Cliff’s death. I have been considering doing a video on them again. Did two video’s on them a year or so ago, and it was pretty bad. That being said I still cannot stand Lars drumming at all. Ok ya killed me on Ride the Lightning being at 5 hahah. I totally agree on Trapped being super underrated.

Cheers!
Kill Em All is excellent. So much raw energy on that album. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. Cheers
My dad had master of puppets on vinyl back in 1986, signed by all 4 members of the band including cliff burton. Sadly my dad passed on since 2002 and since then he had given that record to one of my uncles who still has that signed record in good condition as far as I'm concerned but damn it, I want it back.
There can't be many fully signed copies of that album out there, hopefully that record will be with you someday. Thanks for watching
OKay dude! Great list... but.. WHERE does 72 Seasons fit in your rankings? I may have it at 7 or 8, lots of good tracks but lots of filler.
Would be more towards the lower end. Like you say, some great songs but plenty of filler too. Cheers
As a follow up Mr Boulder where would you a slot in 72 Seasons?
I'd slot 72 Seasons in behind Death Magnetic I think
Where would you rank the new album 72 Seasons in the list?
I'd probably put 72 Seasons half way up the list
another person who loves disposable heroes, we love to see it! we have the same top 5, mine is just switched a bit.
1. ride the lightning
2. master of puppets
3. black album
4. kill em all
5. justice
where would you put 72 seasons in this ranking?
Disposable Heros is such a perfect song. Great top 5. I'd probably slot 72 seasons just behind Load. Thanks for watching and commenting
Master of Puppets is one of the best album's ever recorded in my opinion, absolutely flawless. Thanks for watching and commenting
Cheers Anthony. Hope you're well mate 👍
I’m seeing them live next year and I CANT WAIT!
Nice. I'm hoping they come here back to the UK next year
Great over view of the discography.
Cheers for your feedback Tom, please subscribe to the channel if you enjoy it. Thanks

Been watching a lot of your uploads ,didn't realise I never had hit the sub button. 🙂
Thanks for subbing and glad you're enjoying the content. Yeah for some reason Metallica record's are often expensive
Love seeing support for the black album. Some of their best riffs and guitar harmonies ever and I would say without question James’ best vocals of any album.
Totally agree. Black Album gets a lot of unnecessary shit that it doesn't deserve. Cheers for watching and commenting
Thanks for subscribing, that's much appreciated. Kill Em All at the time of release must have been mind blowing. Cheers

1. Ride the Lightning
2. Kill 'Em All
3. Master of Puppets
4. ...And Justice for All

6. 72 Seasons
7. Hardwired...To Self-Destruct
8. Death Magnetic
9. Garage Inc.
10. St. Anger
11. Load
12. Reload
13. Lulu
First 5 are untouchable. I've never actually listened to Lulu
I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. Lulu is just a terrible album in my opinion.
Yes Fight Fire With Fire is amazing and very underrated for me. Jealous you were at that Hammerfest gig. Cheers for watching
Interesting to hear your thoughts on these albums. I think you make a fair point about Lars and his drive and passion for the music, although I think in the 90s he made some strange decisions regarding the musical direction. 🤘🤘
Cheers mate and thanks for watching as always
Cool list, James! The first 4 albums & arguably Hardwired to Self-Destruct are the best ones for me.
All great album's mate
1. And Justice for All
2. Master of Puppets
3. Ride The Lightning
4. Metallica
5. Hard Wired to Self-Destruct
6. Kill 'Em All

Bit unusual of a ranking but we all like what we like. Love the bon records but back in black is up there with powerage, highway to hell, and let there be rock as the top 4.

9. Hardwired
8. Death Magnetic
7. Kill 'Em All
6. Load

2. Ride the Lightning
3. And Justice for All
4. Kill em’ All
5. The Black Album
6. Didn’t pay attention to anything after the Black album
Can't go wrong with Master of Puppets at number 1. Cheers for watching and commenting
My top 5 would be:
5. Black Album
4. Kill 'Em All
3. Ride the Lightning
2. Master of Puppets
1. ...And Justice for All
It's really tough to choose between Puppets and Justice because they're both such brilliant albums but Justice just edges it for me. Like you it was my first Metallica album so that probably elevates it that little bit for me and pushes it into first place.
I enjoy their entire discography, but the first 5 are definitely the best. Thanks for watching

7) Death Magnetic
6) Hardwired To Self Destruct
5) Black Album
4) Kill'em All
3) And Justice For All
2) Master Of Puppets
1) Ride The Lightning
Great ranking, can't argue with all of your top 5 at all. Cheers for watching and commenting
You make some very good points here. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video
That was a great ranking mate, and well thought out and your opinions were explained really well! Can’t really argue with MoP as number one it’s absolutely fantastic. Nice one James!
Thanks Scott, a band with some amazing albums under their belt. MOP is an absolute beast of an album
totally agree on Trap Under Ice comment!!!! so underrated!! the best song on album!!
Thanks for the info as I didn't know that. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Cheers
Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and Ride The Lightning are my top 3 in no particular order. Never that keen on Kill Em All, and never got into The Black Album. You're very welcome. It's just a very rare pick at No. 5. :)
@marcbauerett1232 Yeah I know it is, but I had to be honest. All our opinions are different. Cheers
Cheers for watching and commenting 👌

They've definitely got decent stuff across their entire discography for me.
@timsimmons9995 Their first 5 albums are outstanding. Not many bands csn boast putting out 5 excellent albums back to back
@@mrboulder9714 100% agree, their first 5 albums put Metallica as the best metal band in that era (as I've mentioned, Megadeth is a very close 2nd in that era, first 5 albums).

Absolutely, one of the best Metal album's ever recorded hand's down
I'm almost 50...grew up listening to Metallica...the Black album was their last great album.... everything after that up to 72 Seasons is just a few good songs...nothing memorable.
The first 5 albums are definitely their peak years
Personally, I think that both the ability and the courage to go to different places to explore different things in different areas is the sign of a great band. A genius band. Metallica is that.
I agree. Most people just wanted to make the first 4 albums over and over again, but they changed things up and conquered the world. Cheers for watching and commenting
They explore nothing since death magnetic😂 are you def???
Metallica, Load and Master Of Puppets are their best albums.
Master is a beast and Load is an album I really enjoy. Cheers

You make a very good point there. Thanks for watching and commenting
Listen to it with a bit of tea eh old chap. you rock dude.
Haha. How British
Kill Em All is the only one I really care about
Wow really. Their is so much more great stuff in their discography. Thanks for watching and commenting
11 St. Anger (too much bad production)
10 72 Seasons (unnecessarily long)
09 Reload (Load leftovers)
08 Hardwired (half great/half filler)
07 Load (too much hard rock/grunge/blues)
06 Death Magnetic (sh*tty mixing/mastering)
05 Kill em All (too juvenile)
04 Metallica (one or two fillers)
03 ... And Justice For All (you know what's going on here... )
02 Ride the Lightning (not the best production yet)
01 Master of Puppets (their best album)
Cheers for sharing your ranking. Master of Puppets in its rightful place. Thanks for watching
the fact that you actually own St. Anger on vinyl is disturbing to me LOL
I'm a completist fella, even though its shit I gotta have it 😂😂
Death magnetic higher than hardwired is madness.
Hardwired is a good album but has way too much filler on it. Cheers for watching and commenting
@@mrboulder9714 you could be onto something. Hardwireds length can work against it
Production wise Hardwired is better, but I like the songwriting more on Death Magnetic.
1. Black album ( I dont like Nothing else matters....so boring)
2. And Justice For All (Shortest Straw and Dyers Eve...so cool)
3. Master of Puppets (Battery and Disposable heroes is the best song in this album not Master of Puppets)
4. Reload ( remake of Black album but it no one cares)
5. Load ( They dress like pearljam whenever they play live)
6. Kill Em All (Motorbreathe and Fourhorsemen = METAL)
7. Ride the Lightning (Everybody say that this is the best album but not for me)
8. Death Magnetic (Back to Thrash??? I dont think so....)
9. Hardwired to Self Destruct ( Heavier Version of Reload)
10. 72 Seasons ( Now they have Alternative metal album...it sucks like St ANger)
11. St Anger ( though I listen a lot to Sweet Amber and The Unnamed Feeling)
Nice ranking, and great to see some real love for the Black Album. Cheers for watching
He must love the 'garbage can' drums on that one.
Nobody loves those drums
I don't think that Load is as bad as people make out. Reload is a very patchy album though i think. Cheers
@@mrboulder9714 Just boring and lifeless lol
Load is good bc King Nothing is a banger
Agreed
I’ve never seen ride the lightning so low on a list
Just goes to show how we're all different. Thanks for watching
3:46 that snare drum sounds like absolute shit lmao. I couldn't listen to that album super cringy especially frantic lol
How that snare drum sound wasn't changed I will never know. Cheers for watching
1) Puppets
2) Justice
3) Black
4) Lightning
5) Kill em all
Bin the rest.
Excellent top 5
Lel master of puppets better than kil em all??? Ya crazy my bro crazy
MOP is one of my favourite albums of all time, Kill Em All is also a banger. Cheers for watching fella 👍
Ok ya killed me on Ride the Lightning
being at 5 hahah. I totally agree on Trapped being super underrated.
Yeah those first 4 records are untouchable dude. I'll catch up on your Metallica video's shortly. Thanks for watching fella 👍
@@mrboulder9714 yeah after watching this, I’m going to do a video this afternoon!
