Madeira Mountain Hike: PR1 from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo

- Madeira is probably most famous for the hikes along the Levadas. This hike along the iconic PR1 is an entirely different experience but an experience you should not miss out on.
The hike takes you along the three hightest peaks of the island, hiking from the third highest peak to the highest.
While there is barely 60 meters difference in height between the trailhead and the destination, the entire hike will lead you through 1100m of altitude difference, if you take it as a round-trip.
The trailhead is one of the best spots on the Island to watch a sunrise, so we recommend you get up early and enjoy a beautiful sight even before starting on your adventure.

That's the magic trick to escape the rain ☔. Our entire trip was dominated by finding the only dry spot on the Island. Above the clouds was the safest bet 🙃.
Sitting there and watching the clouds draw in was a beautiful sight. The way back got a lot colder, though 🤪. Thank you for watching our little adventure. Hope you are doing well

Looks a fabulous trek out and one I'm sure I would very much enjoy. Those clouds looked pretty awesome even if they might have been obscuring some of the views.
It was actually the only halfway reliable method for some sun to go up this high. Luckily we could enjoy the way to the peak in the sun. Only resting there the clouds came in and we rather much enjoyed the spectacle. Thank you for watching our little adventure. We are sure you would love the trail. It is a popular one, though

Madeira has some very beautiful hikes. The Levadas are a unique setting, but we still preferred this one. There is just something about being high up in the mountains...

The only thing that's stopped me travelling to Madeira so far is the lack of flights from London, but videos like this are making it very clear I have to go! Great walk above the cloudline!
Thank you so much. Along the mountains, I bet you would find plenty of space for your favorite activities. Be aware though, that the Island has quite a lot of rain, so it might be a lot wetter than some of your recent videos. That said, I bet you would have just as a nice time on Madeira as you had on Tenerife, or will soon have in Lanzarote.
