- Who doesn't love a super fast aperture? This lens was a launch lens for the RF mount so how does it hold up now? Let's be fair, it's a Canon L Lens, it has an f/1.2 aperture, it's going to be great. Let's talk about it.

great video about the rf 50 1.2, it's on my next to purchase list
I want that lens! I have the EF version and I love the EF version but for me, the softness and blooming wide open is such a specific look that it is more of a specialty lens than the all-rounder I want my fast fifty to be.
I just ordered this as an import version . I cannot wait to use it. I have saved like a grand
When compared to 28-70 RF lens, is 50mm a better choice
In lower light and contrast situations, sometimes the lens won't focus at all for a few seconds. Most times shutting the camera off and on can help, or sometimes it randomly starts working again. EOS R firmware 1.8.0, lens firmware 1.0.5, both most current. It's an incredible lens but when this focus freeze happens it's pretty annoying.
Great video... Question - how do you get around the 1/8000 max shutter speed, when shooting wide open at F1.2? In daylight my RF50mm f1.8 often clips at 1/8000!! the only solution is to increase the aperture a stop or two f2.8 f3.2 etc... But I don't want to! If I lower the iso to 50 - it just blows out the highlights, looks yuk! (Street photography on an R6 with face/eye tracking is so easy, an amazing camera for speed/accuracy, except for the 1/8000 limit!!!).
On my Fujifilm X-T3 it can shoot up to 1/32,000 - I wish canon had this feature...
You can put a ND filter on the lens which darkens the whole scene
I shoot with the RF 85mm 1.2, it makes a rather annoying clicking noise when focusing during video. Does the 50 1.2 do the same thing?
Yup. All their L primes do which is annoying for the price they charge. The sony ones are silent.
Nice video, but personally I'd rather see you show us examples of why the bokeh is nice rather than just telling us it is.
Is the AF-C noisy in video ?
Not all, check Fuji X series.
I tried to fit it on a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV it didn't fit. Any suggestions? Thank you.
it wont fit on any eos DSLRs. only canon R series
Did you.. test this with that god-forsaken filter on it?
