But when a franchise completely disregards decades of loyalty whilst trying to hide anti consumer practices and corporate greed with "trying to attract new fans" and then labels it with patronising buzzwords its kinda deserving of being dumped on in my opinion however relevant or irrelevant it my opinion is. Tekken had one of the greatest foundational systems in place for a fighting game and they ruined it.
The game hasn't even been released yet and I've already found a bunch of trolls bothering wanting a guest character that flies, teleports and shoots fireballs, Tekken losing its identity is no longer enough and now they want to ruin VF too... ☠️

This title seems a bit dramatic, don’t you think? Virtua Fighter looks phenomenal, and I can’t wait for the final build. I'm excited to see a new update of the game, especially since Tekken needs that competition. But Tekken can hold its own and I’m happy with another 3D fighting game on the horizon, it's good to witness this legendary rivalry continue also shout out to Harada supporting Virtua Fighter series for so long !

I am playing tekken 8 and i love it. I like Street fighter too and I am also waiting for VF6. you know, you can love every fighting game without slamming each other.
I don't see Virtua Fighter replacing Tekken despite yet VF started the 3D fighters but Tekken flashiness and characters drawn in some player like some got introduced to it by saying "You fight as a bear"
But it will make real competition for Harada and Tekken 8 after disaster of dlc season one. He needs to get his head out of his butt otherwise it will replace Tekken in the future

I've been playing fighting games longer than some of you have been alive and I enjoy playing Tekken 8. But, I also play, SF6, Soul Caliber 6, and MK1. I've played all of these games since they 1st came out so I like that there are different fighting games out there.
Tekken hasn’t been “grounded” in over 20 years. I remember a time when it felt like characters were weighty where it was near impossible to keep a juggle combo. NOW! Lol. Tekken is a certified circus act with all the juggling that goes around. Just fish for a whiff, launch, juggle to oblivion intil you are near a wall finish with 50/50 get up & repeat…
The new dynamic blocking system will reinvert the way of watching a fight from a spectator view , plus an option to switch camera view will be great. I also believe that a new guarding system will be implemented that will take advantage of those great new animations. A new parry system can work great as a move that turn the defended from minus on frames to equal , low risk less benefit better combat flow. Less knock downs and few juggles means combat will be smooth with better interaction between players , its boring to have to watch your opponent pull 15 hits combos and waiting for him to finish.

I really thought Tekken 8 was going in that direction after the first trailer, then literally the next trailer it went Dragonballs with flash everywhere. I hated it and will be the second Tekken I skip after T4. But Im now SO hyped for VF! THIS is what I wanted!
I’m super excited but I’m worried I really hope people give this game and city of the wolves a time to shine I feel like both games could be amazing but they don’t have a huge brand recognition to do well but I will be supporting both as long as they are fun and pro consumer we really need games like that now for fighting games at least.

People will drop VF after a month just like the old days. Dedicated fans will keep playing and a small % of newcomers will stay. But the majority will drop it. It's happened before (VF3 and 4 and even 5, heck even VF2 lost to Tekken once 2 and 3 came along) and it will happen again.

For 30 years since it's existence. Tekken has always been like this. Yes, I know Seiichi Ishii created both of the 1st Virtua Fighter and Tekken. But Tekken 1 had Yoshimitsu, Kunimitsu, Jack 1, Prototype Jack, Kuma, and Devil Kazuya (if you play the Galaga mini-game during while it's loading, you shoot all the enemies to achieve a perfect score to unlock him). Also too that King and Armor King makes jaguar noises ,and since then they add Roger, Alex, Angel, Ogre, Mokujin, Devil Jin, etc. to make the game as fiction as possible with some of characters in the past and present. So this franchise had always been like this. It's just that Tekken took it to the next level and went Baki crazy with in it.
It has always been this way with VF fans and VF devs. It's always "Tekken too flashy" and "Virtua Fighter too boring" on the Tekken side. It's gonna be back full force, only this time online "I don't play games lol" crowd is gonna be actually taking this too seriously. Tekken's gonna stay more popular. And I'm here for all this banter and all that. Just like the pre-Tekken 6 days. Yes, VF fans mad because their game is (not) bad.
I think we've already seen what the gameplay realistically would look like during the game awards, which is not to say that it looks bad, it's actually good, just more importantly, believable and even familiar if you've played the recent beat-em-up RGG Yakuza games. This just seems like a premade choreographed scene for conceptual purposes.
I used to like it when people used to build upon previous games with new mechanics. Even the Dynasty Warrior games only stayed the same only in story (at least at first). I liked that they added new mechanics to the fighting games. Tekken 8 isn’t really too bad. It has balancing issues but the Rage Art and Heat Smash are fun things that spice up the already good gameplay. It really feels like an evolution of sorts. I hope Virtua Fighter goes for a different type of game than Tekken rather than being an older Tekken game. Make neutral a thing rather than changing some things but keeping the ‘attack all the time until opponent dies’ philosophy. Any new things added should cater to that. Not being a martial art game just for the gimmick. Really have the neutral and the type of gameplay that’s being asked for.
Honestly tekken 8 is the funnest game I've ever player. In arcade quest and practice mode(but seriously it's getting so sweaty and frustrating quick match games feels like I am playing rank)
@gabereell Mainly just fatigue with tk8 in general. I'm just tired of constant plus frame attacks that set up 50 50s which isn't inheritantly bad. It just gets tiring when I have to make educated guesses against every single character for a.long time.

All fighting games are fantasy. Tekken and VF used to be Martial Arts Fantasy (Wuxia if you want to use the original name). Fighting Robots, Mechanical Ninjas and even Martial Arts Demons can still fit into the theme... but that is the limit. More than that and you are in a new kind of fantasy, way more extreme, a combat fantasy where piercing attacks, explosions and bullets don't create wounds, where special powers, weapons and guns are commonplace. Shonen fantasy maybe? Such kind of fantasy is not bad. We all love anime that utilizes a similar power scale. But in fighting games it has already been overused. Most modern fighting games fall in this Shonen Fantasy category, while Martial Arts Fantasy is super rare nowadays. IMO that is the reason some people is waiting for VF REVO to leave Tekken. It has never been more similar to 2D flashy games than today. Tekken 8 just became the point when Tekken stopped being a sanctuary for Martial Arts enjoyers. VF simply is recreating that sanctuary.
T8 Adding 40 seconds of flashy cenimatics PER ROUND gets real tiresome. Would be cool if we had no heat and no rage modes. Would be nice to have normal time to a match.

I think that bar is going to be some type of Perry stamina because if you pay attention to it they just have this really good flowy type of defense to where it doesn't just look like they're just holding their arms up and blocking its actual individual limbs blocking just looks a lot more realistic I don't think it's going to have any type of gauge they hate that Tekken is getting for it to be honest we can probably blame Virtua fighter because they've always followed their lead

Tekken and VF are very different games. Honestly, in no universe do I ever see VF outperforming Tekken. VF is more grounded and honest while Tekken has always tried pushing itself to be the more flashy spectacle and in depth fighter. I'm excited for a new VF since the showdown updates on 5 but it is WELL past its prime.

The people you are talking about will never be happy, atleast with the current gen game. Its allways the game they dont play they love, even though they hated it when they played it back then. They just cant stand loosing, so the game is bad. They dont actually like vf, its just not something they have bad experience with yet
I'm happy that VF is returning but it's not going to be as successful as Tekken. People are inevitably going to complain about VF just like any other fighting game so it won't stop the constant whining. Tekken 8 still has problems but it is objectively a great fighting game, but in saying that I also hope that VF6 is successful so that fighting games in general can have more competition and improve.
I will definitely be playing a lot more Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O over Tekken 8 when it comes out - way more honest and rewarding game, no gimmicks. If they're gonna make Tekken 8 a strictly casual fighting game, at least give us fun game modes that cater to the lack of balancing. The game is too aggressive and casual for it's own good.

I'm sorry, but I always grew up with Mortal Kombat and the first time I saw Tekken 8 was Evo last year and I fell in love with it with exactly what you're saying the flashy gameplay. I can't imagine playing Tekken 8 not in my life anymore meaning it's essential to me now 💙👊
Tekken fans just love to complain and don't realize that Tekken 8 is simply the better game, content and gameplay-wise. The Tekken devs are always listening and supporting the community as much as they can, which is commendable. Notably, I've never seen such support from other game devs like Tekken's. However, people still love to complain. If Virtua Fighter does well, it's for the better, since Tekken will finally have some competition in the 3D space. This competition can drive developers to improve the game and make it even better, which is a win for the community. Fighting games are finally on the rise, like never before, with a variety of 2D, 3D, and other styles, and that's what makes it awesome.
I think tekken 8 is fine. I think tekken will survive in its own right. VF6 is gonna be great if the game play like the video capture out now. But the ufc and boxing games are one dimension and lose there effect overtime… VF is better than UFC and Boxing game purely because of the same reason different fighting styles vs others… but if the block animation in VF6 is more choreographed than it has not only beat SF and Tekken that is the leap that will keep it fresh. But parrying and throws will have to grow to a DOA level… that means low or duck gabs can not work like it does in older VF’s. DOA’s Hold system is the best way to move forward and in that the game will have to evolve beyond 3 buttons and move list have to become less tapping and more stable inputs like a tekken or street fighter. VF6 is looking like a contender but playing it safe will have potential for people to get bored quickly and move back to something more Familiar and Tekken a it core is still a great game once there’s a way to counter aggression… But I do understand getting ran over by an aggressive opponent doing anything is upsetting but most of the people getting beat are still just casual players. Sorry for the long comment.

Im not gonna lie, even if Tekken is know for martial arts, but so is VF but it been around before tekken, the difference is Tekken as its core, because of lore reasons is intented to be unrealistic because devil kayzua has been a thing beofre the early 2000s, you got robots, ninja that teleport, bears, cyborgs, a moving wooden dummy, the thing is as time progress so is the identity of tekkens lore made to be unrealistic has been capitalized and double downed since after Tekken 5 and onwards. Virtua Fighter with an exception of Dural being a floating metal being, otherwise is mainly a martial arts reality focused game, and nothing more than that!
i only i could do a game it will be a perfect merge of those 2 fighting game, like Tekken 5 DR style and not more. Being a DEV one thing i know FORSURE is that you cant PLEASE everyone. The game is by designed. Meaning, it was built the way it is for a reason. Changing mechanics such as heat or rage will destroy the foundation of the game. It’s so simple to say “PLEASE REMOVE HEAT” or “PLEASE REMOVE RAGE ART”, but did you think for a second about how Jeremy Smith or Takeshita Omari the DEV feels? Put your self in their shoes. You remove a problem you open up 1000 more problems to exist. It’s so fundamental to most logical DEVS and thats why we think and move the way we do…… im sure tekken devs are aware of what is going on, but be patient… the kinks and problems will work themselves out sooner or later….
They are not doing it to be different from Tekken, they are doing it because that is what VF is. The are no fireballs, ki blasts, guns or lasers in VF, they are staying true to themselves, and this is what we are complaining about in Tekken 8: the game has become a anime based game instead of the martial arts based fighter that it started out to be. I am glad that you are starting to understand that Moonsault. Also, you must remember Tekken and VF were rivals way back when. VF 4 Evolution was a better game that Tekken 4 way back on PS2, so its not like VF is doing something new and different by being a martial arts based game, they are simply sticking to their roots; and that works for me.

The biggest corporate problem is that namco has let it get to their head ever since the Tekken, SC and CC2 devs helped out on Smash 4 and Ultimate, Namco thinks they only make good ideas without needing to use their brain, and now they're dropping the ball. Same with Namco being loose with from software. Nightreign could be good. But it's going to be the biggest tradition breaker in the souls franchise to become even more mainstream and that is also going to be dicey and make it or break it, and now Namco giving it exclusivity to Sony just proves Namco is a moron. Haradas just a puppet having terrible marketing strategies shoved down his throat.
Its not the lack of realism that's hurting Tekken 8, its that it has become too absurd. The excessive screenshake and the hit sounds that sound like shotgun blasts give me massive headaches. I can't enjoy Tekken when it's trying to be a Michael Bay explosion movie.

Dedicated fans will keep playing and a small % of newcomers will stay.
But the majority will drop it. It's happened before (VF3 and 4 and even 5, heck even VF2 lost to Tekken once 2 and 3 came along) and it will happen again.

For 30 years since it's existence. Tekken has always been like this. Yes, I know Seiichi Ishii created both of the 1st Virtua Fighter and Tekken. But Tekken 1 had Yoshimitsu, Kunimitsu, Jack 1, Prototype Jack, Kuma, and Devil Kazuya (if you play the Galaga mini-game during while it's loading, you shoot all the enemies to achieve a perfect score to unlock him). Also too that King and Armor King makes jaguar noises ,and since then they add Roger, Alex, Angel, Ogre, Mokujin, Devil Jin, etc. to make the game as fiction as possible with some of characters in the past and present. So this franchise had always been like this. It's just that Tekken took it to the next level and went Baki crazy with in it.
It has always been this way with VF fans and VF devs.
It's always "Tekken too flashy" and "Virtua Fighter too boring" on the Tekken side.
It's gonna be back full force, only this time online "I don't play games lol" crowd is gonna be actually taking this too seriously.

Tekken 8 is a beautiful game.
I think we've already seen what the gameplay realistically would look like during the game awards, which is not to say that it looks bad, it's actually good, just more importantly, believable and even familiar if you've played the recent beat-em-up RGG Yakuza games. This just seems like a premade choreographed scene for conceptual purposes.
I used to like it when people used to build upon previous games with new mechanics. Even the Dynasty Warrior games only stayed the same only in story (at least at first).
I liked that they added new mechanics to the fighting games. Tekken 8 isn’t really too bad. It has balancing issues but the Rage Art and Heat Smash are fun things that spice up the already good gameplay.
It really feels like an evolution of sorts.
I hope Virtua Fighter goes for a different type of game than Tekken rather than being an older Tekken game. Make neutral a thing rather than changing some things but keeping the ‘attack all the time until opponent dies’ philosophy.
Any new things added should cater to that. Not being a martial art game just for the gimmick. Really have the neutral and the type of gameplay that’s being asked for.
The teaser is definitely scripted BUT the moves that we see will definitely be in the game. Hopefully stage destruction as well🤞🤞🤞🤞

@gabereell Mainly just fatigue with tk8 in general. I'm just tired of constant plus frame attacks that set up 50 50s which isn't inheritantly bad. It just gets tiring when I have to make educated guesses against every single character for a.long time.

All fighting games are fantasy.
Tekken and VF used to be Martial Arts Fantasy (Wuxia if you want to use the original name).
Fighting Robots, Mechanical Ninjas and even Martial Arts Demons can still fit into the theme... but that is the limit. More than that and you are in a new kind of fantasy, way more extreme, a combat fantasy where piercing attacks, explosions and bullets don't create wounds, where special powers, weapons and guns are commonplace. Shonen fantasy maybe?
Such kind of fantasy is not bad. We all love anime that utilizes a similar power scale. But in fighting games it has already been overused.
Most modern fighting games fall in this Shonen Fantasy category, while Martial Arts Fantasy is super rare nowadays. IMO that is the reason some people is waiting for VF REVO to leave Tekken. It has never been more similar to 2D flashy games than today. Tekken 8 just became the point when Tekken stopped being a sanctuary for Martial Arts enjoyers.
VF simply is recreating that sanctuary.

I think that bar is going to be some type of Perry stamina because if you pay attention to it they just have this really good flowy type of defense to where it doesn't just look like they're just holding their arms up and blocking its actual individual limbs blocking just looks a lot more realistic I don't think it's going to have any type of gauge they hate that Tekken is getting for it to be honest we can probably blame Virtua fighter because they've always followed their lead

Tekken and VF are very different games. Honestly, in no universe do I ever see VF outperforming Tekken. VF is more grounded and honest while Tekken has always tried pushing itself to be the more flashy spectacle and in depth fighter. I'm excited for a new VF since the showdown updates on 5 but it is WELL past its prime.

But if what I've seen of VF so far is anything to go by, those players who're currently raging and raving about TK8, won't like it. They'll comeback crying. It'll be a sight to behold. I'm happy that VF is returning but it's not going to be as successful as Tekken. People are inevitably going to complain about VF just like any other fighting game so it won't stop the constant whining. Tekken 8 still has problems but it is objectively a great fighting game, but in saying that I also hope that VF6 is successful so that fighting games in general can have more competition and improve.
I will definitely be playing a lot more Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O over Tekken 8 when it comes out - way more honest and rewarding game, no gimmicks.
If they're gonna make Tekken 8 a strictly casual fighting game, at least give us fun game modes that cater to the lack of balancing. The game is too aggressive and casual for it's own good.

I'm sorry, but I always grew up with Mortal Kombat and the first time I saw Tekken 8 was Evo last year and I fell in love with it with exactly what you're saying the flashy gameplay. I can't imagine playing Tekken 8 not in my life anymore meaning it's essential to me now 💙👊
Tekken fans just love to complain and don't realize that Tekken 8 is simply the better game, content and gameplay-wise. The Tekken devs are always listening and supporting the community as much as they can, which is commendable. Notably, I've never seen such support from other game devs like Tekken's. However, people still love to complain. If Virtua Fighter does well, it's for the better, since Tekken will finally have some competition in the 3D space. This competition can drive developers to improve the game and make it even better, which is a win for the community. Fighting games are finally on the rise, like never before, with a variety of 2D, 3D, and other styles, and that's what makes it awesome.
I think tekken 8 is fine. I think tekken will survive in its own right. VF6 is gonna be great if the game play like the video capture out now. But the ufc and boxing games are one dimension and lose there effect overtime… VF is better than UFC and Boxing game purely because of the same reason different fighting styles vs others… but if the block animation in VF6 is more choreographed than it has not only beat SF and Tekken that is the leap that will keep it fresh. But parrying and throws will have to grow to a DOA level… that means low or duck gabs can not work like it does in older VF’s. DOA’s Hold system is the best way to move forward and in that the game will have to evolve beyond 3 buttons and move list have to become less tapping and more stable inputs like a tekken or street fighter. VF6 is looking like a contender but playing it safe will have potential for people to get bored quickly and move back to something more Familiar and Tekken a it core is still a great game once there’s a way to counter aggression… But I do understand getting ran over by an aggressive opponent doing anything is upsetting but most of the people getting beat are still just casual players. Sorry for the long comment.

Tekken in general is incredible its own right. No....I don't like the Final Fantasy guest characters at all. But the franchise is easily one of the best fighting games around...without the projectiles of course and other stuff

Im not gonna lie, even if Tekken is know for martial arts, but so is VF but it been around before tekken, the difference is Tekken as its core, because of lore reasons is intented to be unrealistic because devil kayzua has been a thing beofre the early 2000s, you got robots, ninja that teleport, bears, cyborgs, a moving wooden dummy, the thing is as time progress so is the identity of tekkens lore made to be unrealistic has been capitalized and double downed since after Tekken 5 and onwards. Virtua Fighter with an exception of Dural being a floating metal being, otherwise is mainly a martial arts reality focused game, and nothing more than that!

Being a DEV one thing i know FORSURE is that you cant PLEASE everyone. The game is by designed. Meaning, it was built the way it is for a reason. Changing mechanics such as heat or rage will destroy the foundation of the game. It’s so simple to say “PLEASE REMOVE HEAT” or “PLEASE REMOVE RAGE ART”, but did you think for a second about how Jeremy Smith or Takeshita Omari the DEV feels? Put your self in their shoes. You remove a problem you open up 1000 more problems to exist. It’s so fundamental to most logical DEVS and thats why we think and move the way we do…… im sure tekken devs are aware of what is going on, but be patient… the kinks and problems will work themselves out sooner or later….

They are not doing it to be different from Tekken, they are doing it because that is what VF is. The are no fireballs, ki blasts, guns or lasers in VF, they are staying true to themselves, and this is what we are complaining about in Tekken 8: the game has become a anime based game instead of the martial arts based fighter that it started out to be. I am glad that you are starting to understand that Moonsault.
Also, you must remember Tekken and VF were rivals way back when. VF 4 Evolution was a better game that Tekken 4 way back on PS2, so its not like VF is doing something new and different by being a martial arts based game, they are simply sticking to their roots; and that works for me.

The biggest corporate problem is that namco has let it get to their head ever since the Tekken, SC and CC2 devs helped out on Smash 4 and Ultimate, Namco thinks they only make good ideas without needing to use their brain, and now they're dropping the ball.
Same with Namco being loose with from software. Nightreign could be good. But it's going to be the biggest tradition breaker in the souls franchise to become even more mainstream and that is also going to be dicey and make it or break it, and now Namco giving it exclusivity to Sony just proves Namco is a moron.

Its not the lack of realism that's hurting Tekken 8, its that it has become too absurd. The excessive screenshake and the hit sounds that sound like shotgun blasts give me massive headaches. I can't enjoy Tekken when it's trying to be a Michael Bay explosion movie.
