I admire anyone who does the MR340. Curious, how fast do you need to paddle on flatwater to be compared to the paddle speed you need for the river race?
It depends on your race goal. It's not so much about speed, but rather your ability to stay in a boat for long, long hours and moving. If you can keep average speed of 3 mph, the river can probably add to it about 2 mph. So, with 5 mph you can finish with 68 hour of active paddling. You have to stop, rest, sleep for 12 h maybe. So, 70 hours finish time. And, some demons like headwinds, storms or fog can slow you down.
See you on the river! Boat #0402
This year will be my first MR340. Hope I see you there!
I will be competing in the MR340 for the first time this year. I look forward to seeing you out on the water
Cheers!
I'm hoping to ride my bike 1000 miles this year and to paddle 120 hours.
Ill see you there, boat 1773.
