Thank you so much! You would be glad to know that literally all the issues have been fixed! I keep uploading weekly short videos on Twitter (The white thingy is attached to Unreal Engine 4 we are using, each camera ONLY renders what is inside the FOV so if you swap the camera really fast in some areas the meshes and materials will take a few miliseconds to load, thats why you see white lights = EMPTY assets on screen. But will be adressed in the final game) Great video!
Make sure you start setting up your shader precaching as you're working.. don't be one of those developers or the first playthrough for a game is just a series of loading for the first time.. also remember, customization, it's a feature.. separate at your post effects in the menu and allow them to be adjusted especially things like motion blur.. it's amazing how good motion blur could look if it wasn't set at a shutter speed no one would ever shoot with for any sort of motion if they wanted to get some sort of recoverable footage.. let people adjust it it's it's actually like it's it's it's it would be nice.. and remember chromatic aberration is the devil.. ask any camera operator.. it's not a feature it's it's something that we tried to stamp out and have many tools to do so until video games apparently decided that everything should look like a broken TV...
I swear it's his voice or something. It takes me like a month to finish a video (probably because I'm watching from bed). I'm glad it's not just me lol
Words cannot describe the joy I felt when I saw the notification saying part 4 of the modern resident evil clones was finally here. I'm going to put this on the big TV and get myself a proper drink for this marvelous event.
Don't listen to this G4 guy. The homie makes it his business to organize all survival horror games on a display for us. It's helpful and I imagine positive comments keep him going.
33:53: Yes, thank you! I get so sick of "PSOne-style" games that don't actually try to imitate the look of the real thing and instead just make everything look like a bunch of blurry LEGOs dry-humping each other.
Yeah. People tend to go into that look with the idea that ps1 graphics “just looked bad”. So they just drop the resolution and add some blur. There’s a lot that went into that recognizable ps1 look though.
Hopefully these videos bring some much needed attention to these projects and the devs get the motivation they need to keep improving and pumping out survival horror games.
While enjoying this I was wondering why you covered so many demos (ie unfinished games) and then it hit me 1- ur too excited to wait for the finished game (!!) 2- bringing attn to the games motivates the developers themselves to persevere 3- constructive criticism will lead to an improved final game. Mazel!
Honestly, mostly number 1. That being said, it would be amazing to get more eyes on these projects. If we can make a lot of these into success stories, we can can more titles like em. Then other devs might see there's a future in these types of games and it all turns into a snowball effect. Getting people to buy the finished project is one thing, but bringing the crowd to the developers before the game even comes out, like you said might motivate the developers to go that extra mile.
Holstin presentation looks a lot like Signalis, and I played that wonder indie survival horror game. It’s incredible that they’re so many indie horror games to this day,and I can’t wait to play them. You really giving so many recommendations for me to play this year dude.
Thank you for another great vid Jared ! Although i already knew about most of these games, you still managed to introduce me to 3 new games. Since i don't like the modern take on horror, be it movies or games i'm constantly on the lookout for these kinds of retro inspired survival horror games. Can't wait for part 5 (no rush obviously) !
Not only is it fantastic to see this video finally being uploaded but the fact that it came out only a few days before the launch of Resident Evil 4 remake is just perfect timing. Thank you Jared, I hope this video really blows up to the point that even Rufus starts playing survival horror games.
I always look forward to a new video from Jared. His voice is so soothing and it brings me back to a time where his REtrospective videos got me through my day. Never stop being awesome.
Great video like always. You covered good games/demos here and all of them look good but the ones that I like are The Pale and Lake Heaven Chrysalis. The shots that I liked are 31:51 for The Pale and the hallway at 46:32 for Lake Heaven. The camera angles are clever and cool
I am incredibly happy that a new chapter of this series premiered. This mini series is a personal favorite of mine and this might be my favorite chapter of it so far 💕 thank you so much
Thanks for continuing to upload more videos on new survival horror games, Jared! I love this niche genre, and it's always exciting to see games being made that follow the formula defined by Resident Evil. I'm especially looking forward to the release of You Will Die Here Tonight. Interesting indeed. Fixed camera angles, tank controls, and pre-rendered backgrounds will always have a special place in my heart. Hopefully one day I'll be able to contribute to this list; let's say Volume 8 of this series, lol. Don't know if you're aware of them, but here's some upcoming RE clones you may be interested in: The Lacerator, Vaccine Rebirth, and Becrowned.

Thank you for feeding my Steam wishlist, Jared! I don't know if you've checked it out already but there's a pretty good first person RE clone named Dead Beacon. It only costs about a fiver and reminds me a lot of Nightmare of Decay.

This video made me get the demo for Echoes of the Living, I love these types of videos, gives me plenty of things to look forward to. In fact most of these games look cool and make me want to play them at some point.
In the game Heratworm, written on the door at 1:00:14 is the Latin phrase *Mortem Oppetere.* This was a phrase the Romans use which means to "meet a violent death". So that's nice.
"Which means this game does sort of end up on the side of the spectrum I typically don't get into too much. Specifically, the persistent, unkillable stalker classification." "...having this hooded freak show up slinging a cleaver around and having to rush and find a hiding spot can have a reliable heart rate spiking effect." I call these games Panic Horror. If it's a walking simulator style game, like Layers of Fear, Soma, or Among the Sleep, it's a Walk n' Spook.
just a tip for Echos of the Living. The doors require you to 'use' the keys when the key is not equipped/highlighted on the inventory menu. If its equipped, then the doors will unlock automatically... and if not, you will need to choose to use the key from the menu. Its not a bug, but a clever design choice.
Another one that's worth looking at is BioCrisis. It is PS1 inspired, but it also has that RE2 spirit going for it. Although there's only a demo for it. But still, thought I'd mention it here.
I'm so glad that so many indie games are going for a classic survival horror style. I may not have grown up with them but I find tank controls and pixelly low poly aesthetic to be very appealing to look at.
I love these as there are usually a few that catch my eye and it seems consoles are more likely to get them these days. I recently bought Dreadout 2 on my PS5 and heaven dust 1&2 on my switch. Top 3 out of this list that has my interest are 1)Echos of the living 2)endless blue 3)you will die here tonight.
Just found out your channel and I'm amazed at how much I was missing out. I don't have a lot of time to spend in gaming, but your suggestions will definitely be bumped up in my list. Continue with the awesome work 👍
As a camera operator that used to shoot live concerts, with a manual prime lens.. video games obsession with putting things out of focus.. let alone in first person where eyes you know just like don't actually work that way.. it's absolutely aggravating.. if it wasn't for the fact that chromatic aberration is now a thing that people add on purpose, it would be my primary camera sin where video games clearly are created by people that like the idea of Cinema but don't really understandwhy those things are the way they are.. and the reality of chromatic aberration is it should never be anywhere unless you're simulating a drug trip or somethin. . The effect came from cheap knockoff speed boosters lenses etc that were bad or damaged or like you just wouldn't see this outside of damaged media basically or or camcorders.. and a lot of cases it wasn't even the VHS that was causing the chromatic aberration it was the actual player itself or the TV.. And I have a suspicious feeling a lot of this retro chromatic aberration feel comes from the fact that most of the media from that era or on devices of that era if looked at today are usually to a point where they are beyond repair to bring to what was supposed to be out of the factory actually clear with none of that.. it's a thing of crt's is you don't make them anymore there's none of the factories to make them anymore and they're very difficult to repair and most of the parts don't exist anymore to actually fully repair them and they have a finite lifespan of about 5 years before things start going downhill very quickly.. it's always cracks me up the the used market for crt's it's like.. I remember back when crt's were still like getting pushed off the edge of technology how hard it was to go find a used CRT that was in any shape.. like and if it was hard back and 2008.. well that's 12 years.. so hopefully it hasn't been turned on yet much less used LOL.. But seriously go through so much effort to get rid of chromatic aberration when it shows up in shots.. just so many tools and techniques for getting rid of it, for photography it's it's like let's go deal with that chromatic aberration and then we can do anything else after.. like you judge the quality of your lens based on things like that LOL.. and these are things that people are just adding to video games like oh it's cuz it's like a movie it's like no no it's not it's not like a movie.. fix your TV.. fix your glasses Tim Sweeney!
@@AvalancheReviews honestly I'm going to have to give the game a go at some point just to get better at Polish since I have to use it almost everyday day now.
Looking forward to Echoes of the Living. I haven’t heard of many of these other ones but some seem to be the style I like. Have to keep an eye on them :-) thank you for this video.
Pro tip.. when hiding from monsters.. often it is best to discard your full body adorned Tron like rave attire.. remember if you can see yourself glowing from 5 miles away.. there's a good chance the demons can...
Good video. Doom clones, Resident Evil clones, Max Payne clones, Halo clones, GTA clones, etc. some people think “riding trends” is a recent issue. But blatant copying has existed in all media since forever. Video games copying each other blatantly is something I can recall in the last 22 years I’ve been gaming. Lord knows the amount of games trying to be like Doom were countless in number. Wasn’t it Picasso who said “A good artist borrows, a great artist steals?”
Just played Echoes of the Living last week and it was the first time in a long while I installed a demo played it then got excited to play through the entire demo. Usually I just install a demo play for like 20 minutes to see if I like what the game has to offer and then decide if I want to wishlist it or not. I rarely ever play through one.
I'm trying my hand at the survival horror game development, but it has humor and gimmicks from popular genres, not to mention a first person on rails shooter area with magic instead of guns, you cast fireballs at ghosts and zombies.
27:45 "It is a little weird that our heroine is constantly stuck with a face that resembles a Reddit atheist about to type 'Citation needed' into a comment section." This made me laugh. Also, Echoes of the Living and Simulacrum both look awesome. Really enjoying this one so far Jared.
Thanks! I think we're just seeing the beginning of this trend honestly. I imagine in 2 years, we'll have so much more classic survival horror games on our hands.
Propogation: Paradise Hotel is a game that has some heavy resident evil vibes. It's incredibly good and despite being a VR game it has some RE DNA for sure!
The Endless Blue main character is called "Reina", it means "Queen" in Spanish. Regina from Dino Crisis is also a Redhead and her name means "Queen" too, but in Latin. I like the reference.
Thank you so much!

Hey Carnby, would be more of a AitD 3 clone if we get technical...
Echos of the living has such a good look. It looks like a spiritual successor to RE1 Remake
It looks amazing. Nice to see what RE 2 and 3 would have looked like if they got remade in the same style as Re1 remake.
Very interesting indeed...
It looks like its in the same line as Tormented Souls, which as far as Im concerned, is a good thing.
It looks like a legally actionable clone but sure, it is pretty

Pro tip.. when hiding from monsters.. often it is best to discard your full body adorned Tron like rave attire.. remember if you can see yourself glowing from 5 miles away.. there's a good chance the demons can...
Good video.
Doom clones, Resident Evil clones, Max Payne clones, Halo clones, GTA clones, etc.

people think “riding trends” is a recent issue.
Great timing ,watching now , thanks for the upload my man.
I LOVE these videos, and always winding up adding so many of these to my wishlist. Keep it coming!
Deal!
Great video as always, Jared! Echoes of the Living looks so damn good! Can't wait to try it.
Love this series! Thanks for the hard work!
Has anyone else mentioned at 54:50 the title for the game reads "Prototype Mansion" again when the game on display is different?
Look into "The Hotel". Played it recently, felt similar to RE1R on GC, and was made by just 1 person.
The Pale is the first survival horror game I've seen that appears to be in the style of the Sega Saturn
A style i would fucking love to see more of.
Return of the GOAT series
I love these videos. Any chance of deadly premonition getting coverage in the future?
Definitely. I’ve been meaning to for a while. Just haven’t had the right opportunity.
Oh yeah, this is what we've all been waiting for; that's what I'm talking about!
The second I saw that face, that joke was instantly formed in my head. HA!
Excellent video Jared! We need more indie horror games out there.
Thanks! I think we're just seeing the beginning of this trend honestly. I imagine in 2 years, we'll have so much more classic survival horror games on our hands.
I'm a simple man. I see Avalanche Reviews, I click on video, I like then watch
Perfect how the title has Resident Evil 4 in it. Video is gonna blow up
