The never ending battle of being a agricultural mechanic they all want it fixed yesterday

    • @KStewart-th4sk

Well, you have to understand their point of view, if the sun is shining a livestock farmer/rancher is likely making hay. If you are broke down, you're screwed, if it's raining you're screwed. I grew up on the farm and i was haying when my cityfied school mates had the summer off. Then i ended up working as a mechanic on the railroad. Not much difference time wise. Foreman has a block and something is not working, there was hell to pay. If a train was ever held up then the sparks really flew. Only problem being you might have a a-hole Foreman who purposely overran his block, blame it on a machine down when it wasn't, then tell his bosses the BS story. Had that happen once and that went very high up the "food chain". My partner mechanic, who was my senior because i was still an apprentice, did a lot of yelling that day. LOL He took a strip out of that lying bast*rd. The whole incident had happened at least a week before and this was the first time we heard that the ass had pulled that stunt off on us. Our boss showed up to ask us why the machine was down because they had got serious heat from the other department. BUT we had a jackass for a boss too, who never stood up for his own mechanics. SOB never even told us why he was out to talk to us until we got the full story from the Gang Supervisor about what had really happened.

@@KStewart-th4skthe thing is these people wait to last possible second every time how do you think it’s the mechanics fault when he had all winter to get the thing running…. Ranchers and farmers never plan things out in advance it’s their nature but to hound the mechanic isn’t doing anyone favors…. If the farmers or ranchers hound me I take 3 times as long. They don’t realize that there’s always a line a mile long of people who need me…. Plus half the farmers and ranchers think they are mechanics yet they screw everything up they touch. the farmers and ranchers need to learn the more they screw with something the more I charge because I have to fix their screw ups. Warren is in the right the farmers in the wrong. Good work takes a little time and when they start to get that concept around their head they will understand

Mobile mechanics in my area are weeks out on scheduling. Garage are weeks out. My truck is in the garage for injectors and overhead adjustment. That took over a month to schedule. Its family business. The mechanics are on late 50 to A60 years old. If they can't get an apprentices in the next ten years. They won't be able to retire it's the same in my business. I'm almost 73 years old... One thing they have done is close one or two weeks a year because they are getting burnt out like yourself doing all that bull work lifting transmissions etc

Shade younger, retired BUT was in the same business. Mechanic for a major railroad and your body takes a beating over years of doing that kind of work. These clowns talking about a person should be working way past retirement age of 65, obviously never worked a physical job in their damn life. Spent years walking on ballast, then years on concrete shop floor when i quit going out on the Gangs.

@@KStewart-th4skI’m 28 been doing automatic transmission rebuilding and major engines. The old guys who say they tore their bodies up doing this work everyday and that they need apprentices to fill their shoes are simply put morons. I’ve worked in shops where the old morons running the show can’t even run a scanner. Can’t check codes. Can’t read service manuals…. These are the morons you don’t want to work for. They run their shops like crap. Don’t have the proper tools for the jobs. I’ve been doing 2 transmissions a day overhaul installed for the past 10 years and the old guys say you’re going to burn out. Well I’ve worked 6 days a week for the past 10 years working 12 hour days. Now I’m doing semi truck drive line work and the old dudes that’s just retired kicked the bucket. I’m going to work till I die and will be proud of it because you know who will take over when you idiots kick the bucket me…. And I’ll do better work and more work than anyone. Good luck and hope you can figure the real world is about.

Yeah some operators look after their machines and then you have a-holes that want big money but won't maintain what they operate as far as greasing or checking oil. Once in a while we would get a machine in the shop with BO engine, pull the dipstick and nice clean oil right up to the full mark. LOL I worked for the railroad. Another time right outside the Shop this Burro Crane operator bent the boom. He "didn't know what happened". The bend just happened to be right in line with the end frame of the gondola the crane was pulling. LMFAO Wouldn't own up to the fact he bounced the boom off the gondola. Plus, the machine was just leaving the shop to go back to work!

Usually gives them a new respect for you when you leave them on their own for a while and they come crawling back.

    Hi Warren.
    Could you help me?
I want to know which port is “torque converter In” pressure port, on ITL ( JCB) SS600, Synchroshift.
Can’t find that information in any manuals. But they do list what that pressure should be at certain RPM and certain temperature.
And also where is TQ pressure regulator ( not pressure relief, I know where that is).
    Thanks

Hey Warren, how do you totally keep from dehydrating out there at 100° heat with coveralls on and I realize you have to wear that stuff that’s gotta be tough
