looks like Cnet dont know how to make good night photos with that phone. There are a lot youtubers who showing us amazing night photos using that phone. Main issue with all they smartphones right now from Sony is overheating and small battery.
they follow how dslr cameras work (or at least mimic)... so hdr do not go over... for a better "night mode", there is manual setting (though it needs a tripod)... and when that is the setup, it is way better than iphones and pixels... the latter two has problems in stitching multi exposure shots for long exposure photography...
Agree. Sony makes perfect hardware devices. but they should compete with google samsung and apple in the stock camera app. user friendliness etc etc. you can do it sony!
Nice video! What is the best for the Sony smartphones is the shutter button combined with natural colors of the pictures. Where they loose? - price, - not a good auto and computational mode compare to the big competitors that can help everyone to make easy good pictures. - night shoots are realistic but peoples prefere false one's My last Sony phones was Z3 and Z1 compact.
I agree that price is a problem. You are dead right there. They have to lower the prices if they ever want to increase volume sales of their phones. But as for the camera I cannot agree because they are deliberately making a manual and more natural camera experience. They are purposefully making a more camera like experience. Hence why they are not leaning heavily on computational software. And that is exactly what I both want and like. Now do most people prefer fake saturated pictures? Probably yes. But that is also because they have been essentially conditioned to like it. It's what people know and are used to. Doesn't mean that cannot be changed. Plus it also doesn't mean that there are not a LOT of people.... especially those into photography and videography that who do like a more natural and camera/manual focused approach. It's just a question of what you like.
I'd like to point out that as of the beginning of Feb. 2022 the North American (single SIM) variant does NOT run Android 12. Sony support confirmed to me that they expect to roll out in the coming weeks, but it is not currently shipping with Android 12. upgrading from my Pixel 5 this was a big disappointment :(

Love the phone overall but hate the fingerprint sensor. It completely stopped working after 14 months of usage. Fingerprint settings also disappeared from the menu and I cant seem to get it back. Disappointed!
Because it varies by region and retailer... In the UK it's quoted at £900 (over US$1100 including taxes), but all the phone providers will sell it to you straight up at £700 AND you still get to claim the "£250"($300) WH-H910N headphones, great headphones for a freebee, but again, those actually retail closer to £150-£175....

This goes for around €700 where I live and I'm seriously considering it
Great Video! I learnt heaps! MSGA (Make Sony Great Again!) From New Zealand
Love your Xperia reviews!!
whats wrong with cnet... when sony makes long phone they don't like it when they make small phones they don't like it despite it being the size of iPhone 13 pro.... but they were all raving about iPhone mini and how the size is perfect.....lol....funny
Cz it's apple lol
The only thing that keeps me from getting one is lack of support. 2 years of security updates on a thousand dollar phone.
☆☆☆☆ Never owned Xperia phones before & going by reviews I would like to give it a try by ordering Xperia 1 IV which is currently on the pipelines. One things had persuaded me to switch was integration/incorporation of SD slot expandable memory, Headphone Jack, Sony Apps and 70-105mm telephoto.
🔥 I hope SONY incorporates Variable apature & a Bigger sensor ( closer to 1 inch) Or set of faster lenses Which would blow all other competitions out of water and hopefully Sony takes the Crown.
How is the battery? I heard it doesn't hold as good as the 5 II. Can some users share the stats?
Personally I get about 6-7 hrs as a heavy user. I haven't tried with stamina phone at 15%. Granted. I let it get down to 5%. Only because I'm pushing it to its limit. I use 120hz, 240hz touch sampling while gaming, and with razer kishi the hs power controls.
Screen on time I should mention I get 6-7
@@Dreamsofthemorrow That's nice. I think 6-7 hrs are after the latest updates then. Many reviewers claimed 4-5 hrs of SoT in total. You said you're using at 120Hz. So I guess it is possible to get additional 1-2 hours in normal 60Hz refresh.
@@TJ-ev5uw he's lying u getting about 5hrs of heavy screen use with 120hz on
I don't care for the price, and it's not sold in Australia anyway, but it's really bothering me there aren't any small Android phones. I mean any at all. The Z flip doesn't count and is also way too expensive, I never liked IOS, but gee I wish that there was an Iphone Mini equivalent running Android, that small form factor is just impossible to find now in Android
Asus Zenfone 8 is 5.9" screen.
Didn't know Ron Jeremy did reviews as well
Bought one in Australia to replace HTC U11 Plus and loving it
gosh, the low light photos used as examples of "poor low light performance", I thought, looked great! Much better than artificially bright look from other phones.
Today's phone market is rather silly. Notice he's talkin about a phone during the entire video and there's no mention of texting or calls or anything related to the phone Network. Does the phone speakers have good clarity? Maybe everyone is just going to use Bluetooth on it.
You are right. No mention about connectivity , has the phone good signal reception ? It is supposed to be a phone !
Do these phones work with the Verizon network?
I'm still using the XZ1...as much as I want to dive into a Sony 5g model, I can't get past the asking prices for the mkIII models...
It would be great if a US carrier would offer this phone w a carrier discount (l think Tmobile was the last one w Z3 model).
Patrick looks like he should be vacationing with Mark on Wolters World. Mark could be the travel guy and Patrick the tech guy on the trip
Does that cup have a crack or is that a hair? 1:29
looks like Cnet dont know how to make good night photos with that phone. There are a lot youtubers who showing us amazing night photos using that phone. Main issue with all they smartphones right now from Sony is overheating and small battery.
After the updates, no more overheating on my Sony Xperia 1 III 👍
they follow how dslr cameras work (or at least mimic)... so hdr do not go over... for a better "night mode", there is manual setting (though it needs a tripod)... and when that is the setup, it is way better than iphones and pixels... the latter two has problems in stitching multi exposure shots for long exposure photography...
5ii doesn’t over heat, I blame snapdragon 888, it over hears on all phones
Just ordered it today coming tomorrow! Great review...🇺🇦
In my country, Xperia 5 mark 3 is available for less than $200. You can find it in every phone shop. Should I consider getting it in 2024?
this just needed wireless charging and i wouldve been sold
The price is high but have what I want… headphone jack, sd card 🤷🏾♂️
Yea headphone jack is a must since i only use iem. There r places where i cant bring my dac everywhere so it would be pretty convenient
And if you use it for 2-3 years it's totally worth it. If you are a trendy fellow then yeah better skip it. Sd card ftw.
Why is video available only in 480p? 🤔
Ok, but how is the call quality? Can I make clear phone calls with this?
I'd like to know at what retail price you did this review. You recommend it at a discount, but discounted from what exactly?
Agree. Sony makes perfect hardware devices. but they should compete with google samsung and apple in the stock camera app. user friendliness etc etc. you can do it sony!
Does this model has green line issue as happened in 5ii, it's predecessor model?
would you say this is now worth it at a 799 price point
I can't find the camera app on mine, how do you open the camera?
I had no idea Ron Jeremy was so tech savvy. When's the court date?
Ron Jeremy ?
Thanks for the review /cheers ScrapBongo Liked
Love your video 🙂
Looking like Ron Jeremy's younger brother
You covered this phone's story as if it was just a camera... I hope Cnet has better reviewers.
Is 799 a good price?
Nice video!
What is the best for the Sony smartphones is the shutter button combined with natural colors of the pictures.
Where they loose?
- price,
- not a good auto and computational mode compare to the big competitors that can help everyone to make easy good pictures.
- night shoots are realistic but peoples prefere false one's
My last Sony phones was Z3 and Z1 compact.
Here's hoping Sony supports it with software updates!
Great phone has just about everything I want just wish it had a night mode or a dark mode so that you could take pictures at night
I can get this phone for $670 (roughly, converted from AUD (Australian currency) to USD); is it worth the spend?
Sony: We will give you what you ask for but we will make sure you will not be happy about it.
Patrick is easily my most favorite CNET video host
At the beginning he says three things about the phone, Audio, Visual and camera. Then only talks about the camera in detail. Lol!
I am using it, but why I can't update os to android 13 like GSMArena mentioned
Hello uploader
Are you Sony Guy ?
Can you compare Sony Xperia Pro and Sony Xperia -I
Thanks
Estaría perfecto para un precio de 700 dls??
I'd like to point out that as of the beginning of Feb. 2022 the North American (single SIM) variant does NOT run Android 12. Sony support confirmed to me that they expect to roll out in the coming weeks, but it is not currently shipping with Android 12.
upgrading from my Pixel 5 this was a big disappointment :(
I can't wait till the 1 iv 😫
Anyone have any experience with this phone on Verizon?
Bigger battery and lower price would make this phone worth it
Battery last two days already, you don't need a huge battery on a more compact screen.
@@chrisr2543 it's crazy how good battery on Sony phones I have the Xperia 1 which has only 3330mah that I brought about a year go and it still lasts me 6hours of screen on time with heavy use!
@@chrisr2543 stop the cap lol
I want this phone so bad but should I wait for the s22 🤔
I'm going to wait for the Sony Experia Z6
Night mode...hmmm.... I was planning on to get one for myself. But, could anyone explain, if GCam mode works on this Xperia....if so night mode wouldn't be of that an issue, i guess.....
it has a nightscene detection and that is basically a nightmode. it adjust shutter speed etc autoamtaically in that mode. its just not that computational as google for example. but damn photos at night are still sharp and they are true to life. they dont make a dayphoto from a nightphoto you know
@@namelesssnitchy i understand, and i have been using Sony phones since early k750i s...till Xperia XA1... But, the way CGam works as you know, is taking multiple photos and stacking, which reduces noise much more... Xperia does it by a little long exposure and high ISO.. i too, never prefer night to day photos, but, some of the features of GCam are so good like these, so i wonder if it could be installed on these Xperia phones .... would be awesome....
I'd get this just for the flex
Real compact phones back! Asap! Lower pricing, lower repair costs and the heat issue fixed then Sony! You have my and other peoples votes!
Can you be more precise? I am about to buy this phone but I read somewhere that some users have found heat and performance issues when using the phone with heavy apps. Also I read that night shot are not so bright and I have seen them but I think there is the quality. Did the updates improve the phone?
What happened to the Xperia 5 IV???
I have the Xperia 1 iii. I like it, but for 1300, mixing features. and the Xperia 5 iii, are missing even more features, for other phones in the same price bracket. (no wireless charging, no facial unlock, are two big ones) but I do enjoy the headphone jacks, and the expandable memory, dual sims - all depends on one, needs!
I thought I saw it for $800 in the USA?
Pixel 6, ignoring all other problems it has, just produces gimmicky over processed images. The photos briefly seen in this review had breath taking and correct color balance. Yeah, real cameras do not work where there is no light. Duh!
Pixel is also having a lot of software issues now
Yes it's available for $800
quality review!
I would consider this phone. But there's always some kind of shortcomings that become a deal-breaker for me and a price doesn't help either.
Love the phone overall but hate the fingerprint sensor. It completely stopped working after 14 months of usage. Fingerprint settings also disappeared from the menu and I cant seem to get it back. Disappointed!
what if I could get this at £600
Like the phone but at $1000 I don't love it. Really enjoyed your review, though.
Cool I didn´t know that Ron Jeremy got out of jail already! :D
CNET videos have a bad habit of either not telling us the price or a vague estimate of the price.
Does anyone know what carriers even support sony phones? Like I use mint. Like no one knows these exist except for us nerds.
4G = all carriers 5G = only Tmo & Verizon
If you're any kind of camera user, you buy camera, not a phone to be your camera.
