While California's Great America does have some residential development nearby, It's pretty far away from that end of the park. That said, Gold Striker is built right up next to office buildings. During the approval process in the ride's construction, the landlords of these buildings levied noise concerns about it. Great America and Santa Clara were able to work out a deal and the coaster was built. More tunnels, walls, and styrofoam were also added after some testing.
Also, nice work. Hope I can work up the patience for this stuff sometime.

    • @KillJoy83

Came here to say this but you said it well! I used to work in the closest building to Gold Striker! We could still hear it but it wasn't too bad. I used to love walking over to the window and watching the park from the break area, then walking after work in the summer to ride coasters for a couple hours before heading home.

I have never thought about realistic coaster building...it is a total mass if crazy when you start thinking about the things that planet coaster basically ignores realistic supports in many minor things. You do a wonderful job explaining what you did that was realistic and why you decided not to do other things not realistic. I know very little about coaster companies; I just enjoy the coaster ride experience 🐙

I'm pretty sure this doesn't have anything to do with GCI's but the brake runs on some Schwarzkopf coasters, especially the travelling ones, are very steeply banked and make for a kind of strange experience riding on straight track that is tipping you to the side. I could be wrong but I think this might be because it was easier to maintain the banking of the curve before the brake run, into the curve after it instead of designing the transitions into and out of the brakes.

  • @KSher55

The cross bracing on the fences is due to the higher wind speeds higher up off the ground. Fences like that would need some sort of lateral support, which the track supports already provide. But you still need to provide coaster clearances... hence the "tunnel" look

The banked brake runs are typically only used on their magnetic brake runs, which isn’t really seen on other wooden coasters, hence why GCIs are the only ones that have it.

omg I LOVE this layout.. hands down your best coaster you have made.. its soo realistic ..theirs one thing I would change though.. the airtime hills that's In that turn around into break run. I would take those out and do a upward helix that's inside that turn around. or have a turn around /helix/ air time hills that's inside that turn around structure or have it on the out side of that turn around.... think about it. I think it would make the ride complete.. or a really cool ending to the ride.. will this ride be available for download in steam??? love you bro!!! you rock.....

I think in regards to the planks that cover across the middle of the rails - another reason for them I heard is that they are put on at any point the track is over something (other track or paths) as well, although I'm not sure on the exact truth to that, but it definitely makes sense from a health and safety standpoint to stop things falling on your head if you're under wooden track at any point.
There's a small wooden pirate window which I used to cover mine up with, they almost perfectly fit between the rails, but the only problem with those is that it's rather a pain to have them connect up cleanly on more complex tracks. The same windows made for pretty good fences that GCI's love to put on the side of their catwalks for sound dampening.
Another thing I've seen GCI do - especially on Wickerman is that they have two running rails of wooden planks that runs along the track under you as well, but I have absolutely no idea what the function of those are as they don't look incredibly structurally strong or clean enough to be expressly an alternative to a full cover to allow maintenance to walk over to cross the track.

Well well well, you missed all the planks that'd go perpendicular to the track and vertically diagonally within the side supports. Please start over. >:(
Haha, I guess that's a decision made on purpose to one no loose your sanity, two save on piece count and three you don't see them anyway.
Nah that's just a perfect GCI. Once again with your coasters, a perfect blend of realism and originality!
Another nitpick would be the storage track, looks cramped and an after thought (whereas it's actually the very first thing GCI places when designing a layout #trivia) . Also no to the steel support at 32:19 - you can't have a support and its fundation above a tunnel.
I can't wait for Mask and Jonti to theme this beauty!

The "tunnel" of supports on those walls are for wind bracing. Wood is a very good material for taking certain kinds of loads but handling wind on a large surface area is not an ideal application

  • @TakeshiTao

You don't have to show us everything especially if it's getting repetitive already. :) It'll save you much more time and space in your pc. You can also just show us a finished section of the supports and explain a bit what you did there, just like what you sometimes do in your Parkitect videos.
More power! Can't wait to see you work on Jagerhorn and Volvara again! I binge watched them the other day. Now I'm spoiled. I don't think I can find someone better than you when it comes to this game. lol
