Which M1 iPad Pro should you buy? The 12.9” Mini-LED version or the 11” iPad Pro with the liquid retina display? If you watched my M1 iPad Pro first impression video, you know how excited I am about this new iPad
Three of the questions I kept getting in the comments section were “Is the display on the 12.9” version that much better? Does the extra RAM really matter? And “which one should I get”?
So should you buy the m1 ipad pro? And if so, which M1 iPad Pro should you buy? In previous years, it was easier to pick the right iPad Pro for you to buy, because pretty much everything was the same except for the size, but now we have the display size and the display type, we also have to choose between storage size which impacts how much RAM we get.
Let’s break this down, talk about the real-life implications of each component and help you choose the right iPad Pro for your needs. #ipadpro #m1iPadPro #2021iPadPro

I went from the 11 inch Ipad Pro 2018 to the M1 12.9 iPad Pro and I ended up regretting it. It’s just too big. At 12.9 it’s almost like a laptop screen. For me the whole reason for a tablet is for portability. It’s also awkward pulling out a giant screen like that to do anything lol. The device itself was the bees knees. The screen was wonderful! I just found myself leaving it on my desk because i didn’t feel like carrying it around most days. So, I’m selling it and going to the 11 inch m1 iPad Pro. I do appreciate your videos though! You went through allot of relevant features in style!

YES, this is how I feel. I've went from the 2018 11 ipad pro to the new 12.9 and I'm having a hard time convincing myself to keep it because of the weight and comfort of using it is much more awkward :( I want to love it? I also bought a m1 macbook air and never used it. Got to trust your gut.

I think the big one is better docked as a second reference monitor or as a laptop replacement. Or even for illustrators using it as a drawing tablet. I think the mini is the best for reading. The Air and smaller pro make sense as a general productivity device, and all of them except the mini make excellent content consumption devices.

I got 11 inch 2018 first, then one year later 12.9 inch 2018. Not meant to replace, kept both😅. I agree 12.9 inch is too big to carry around, except as a laptop. My dilemma right now is if it’s worth replacing my 12.9 inch 2018 to a 12.9 inch m1/m2.

I went back and forth on the this a lot. I’ve had the 12.9 inch iPad since Gen 1, and I skipped the 2020 version. The biggest reason I went to 12.9 1TB, was that the 11 inch shows apps in the mobile view when you leverage split screen. I use split screen ALL THE TIME and so after playing with an 11 inch, I decided on the 12.9. Also, the iPad currently, is my only portable device for personal use. So I wanted the larger screen as well.

tbh, I think a lot of people like myself who opt for the 11inch model is due to the fact that the iPad is seen ss a intermediate device a phablet and a laptop.
If you want to use the iPad Pro as a stand alone device i.e. you only have a desktop, not a laptop and thus will only use the larger tablet as the go to portable device, then by all means go for the bigger one.

Great channel and informative videos! Bought an iPad Pro 12.9 last week. It was my first iPad ever. Have since returned it for an iPad Pro 11 instead. In-store the 12.9 didn’t feel heavy, but with a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case, screen protector, and Apple Pencil the weight is hard to ignore. Altogether it weighed more than my M1 MacBook Air! Even without the keyboard attached, the 12.9 with case and everything was 2.5-lb to hold up and instead of enjoying my new iPad all I could focus on was the weight and how much I didn’t want to use it anymore. I am so much happier (and relieved) to have the 11” instead. If you’re always going to have the iPad propped up on a desk, stand, couch or bed then go with the 12.9. If you want to use an iPad anywhere inside or outside your home then the 11” is much lighter and better.
Mini-LED honestly wasn’t as impressive in-person to me as I imagined it would be, and even if mini-LED was super awesome the weight of the 12.9 was a dealbreaker and made me hate using the darn thing.

I am also in the camp that wants a separate IPADOS in order to take advantage of the new hardware and truly separate this product line from the IPhones and into their own ecosystem. Think its kind of easy.. If you have money to blow, get the 12.9.. If you make money off production using an iPad then get the 12.9. If you are a normal Joe and you want the M1 processing power or a feature proofed tablet then get the 11". If you are a student or on a budget get the iPad Air and save yourself a ton of cash with a little loss in performance.
The more difficult discussion is what is instore for M1 iPads.... What will iOS 15 bring to the plate? And will the 12.9 1TB+ iPads get software benefits that the 11" or even the sub 1TB won't.

how is holding the iPad 12.9. is it heavy or too large to use when playing a game for example. I am buying it for watching videos, playing lots of games and also for taking notes and drawing. I am confused between th 11 in and 12.9. I am upgrading from a iPad Air 2

  • @Q9Legend

Should you get it right now for gaming? Answer is no because you’re downgrading frame rates if you played codm and pubg in the 2020 version with 120 fps. M1 ipad needs to be optimized to 120 fps options for those games. Im very disappointed right now that its taking too long.

If you get 256 gb hard drive, magic keyboard, and pencil the iPad costs:
    - 12.9 pro = 1677
    - 11 pro = 1327
    - 11 Air4 = 1177
Whereas the 13 inch MacBook Pro is $1299.
Seems like the best value is the 11 inch iPad Pro, and if you want a bigger screen to just get a MacBook Pro as it saves you $300.

I'd say probably the 11" pro, until unless you are on a budget, then get an air 4. I'd recommend 11"pro+apple pencil+magic keyboard (or any other keyboard depending upon how much you use it and again, how much your budget is)
I would also suggest to go to a store and try out both the 12.9" and 11" and see which you prefer more.
*also, if you happen to be on an extremely tight budget then consider the iPad 9th gen

Decided to go for the 11”! I started college and I don’t intend on using the iPad as a laptop replacement because… it’s not. I don’t need to bring laptops to class anyways. The iPad gets me by just fine. Handwriting my notes with this thing never gets old :)
When Apple finally has the balls to make iPadOS equivalent to a laptop replacement, then I’ll get the 12.9”, but until then, you will find me a proud and loyal owner of the mighty 11”!
