I don't know how this particular company makes money. Their rice cookers just won't break. A vintage model from the same company has been in use in my family since before I was born, and the bloody thing is still going strong even till today!!
Haha... Same! We had one for almost 14-15 years and just the outer design coating had gone away, so my dad sold it and brought a new glossier one :D
More people will buy this product because it is very good
There are 4.4 billion Asians on the planet. Imagine that.
It's a big company, they also make other electric appliances that break more easily than this rice cooker ☺️
It don’t last here in Asia
6 months that is it’s lifespan
A Taiwanese here. This tatung company is a Taiwan brand. Those cookers are so well made that each of them can function for over 30 years(if used properly).
Idk why you have so much pride about a rice cooker 😑

Don’t know how I got here to watch this video clip. Honestly, this rice cooker surely can last forever and built tough and good quality. I know every bit detail about this rice cooker because I was the product manager of this kitchen appliance product lines at Tatung Company located in Long Beach California. Personally, I am still cooking my rice everyday with same Tatung rice cooker, same exact one you see in video, that my parents bought 55 years ago. It NEVER EVER failed once on me throughout past 55 years. It still attaches to its original electrical cord, connector, internal parts, and shinny body paint, only except few dings and dents that’s all!
You are right
This is a must wedding gift for daughters in Taiwan. A Taiwan iconic

@@jkgou1 yeah! Or for steaming baby bottles, gift for people go abroad for studying graduate school, some even use for hot pot, many many functions
Wait, Tatung sell this in America?
@@CYT_yoyosikou Yes! They were also HP and Compaq computer contract manufacturer as well decades ago in Long Beach Ca. They also sell lots of POS cashier machines, LCD touch panels, electric kettles, long ago they also sold lots of plasma TVs., compact refrigerators, etcs
More than 55 years, and it still functions?! Jesus Christ, that's some Nokia-level quality there!
Me at 3 am: oh so that's how rice cookers are made

Wow, this is the rice cooker pretty much in every household in Taiwan. The rice cooker manufacturing shown in the video is a mechanical and very versatile cooker not just for cooking rice. So surprise to see "How It's Made" corporate with Tatung for this episode.
You mean cooperate?
I had a Tatung computer monitor in the 90s
@@Fuzy2K cool
I like the very 60s looking design and the high-quality construction☺️
A Simple design, multi function cooker. Super durable, it’s like cast iron cookware of electronic rice cooker. It could be used for decades ....literally. Now it already becoming common memories and part of culture of Taiwanese.
Works great if you pay attention to instructions. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxviiltW7NlHbp_VL_bLbIkbLAvILVhnia For those that complain about "mushy" or "wet" rice I suspect they are using the included cup to measure rice (which is really only 3/4 cup) and then putting in water using a separate measuring cup that is a full cup. This results in too much water and you will get mushy or wet rice and think it is not done. Just use the included cup for both rice and water, or your own measuring cup for rice and water according to your package directions. It will come out fine. I've used mine for years for brown and white rice. If your machine is bubbling white froth out of the steam vent then it means you should have rinsed your brand of rice first to remove some of the starch. Sheesh. Makes me wonder how people can cook well enough to feed themselves.
4:00 pretty cool to see them using the curie point of the ferrite cores to regulate the temperature.
What's a 'curie point'? I'm interested in knowing.
@@Auoric In physics and materials science, the Curie temperature (TC), or Curie point, is the temperature above which certain materials lose their permanent magnetic properties.

Found a good Zojirushi Rice cooker with floral patterns on it for $3 at Goodwill, still use it to this day :D
Zojirushi "Elephant Brand" is built like a tank, that was a steal for $3.
@@NickyNightShine I got ya beat. When I lived in Japan I got a Toshiba brand fuzzy logic cooker in the electric appliance store garbage pile. my cost was zero. Ive been using it back here in Canada for 20 years now. The non stick coating had bubbled off in places like someone had put it on top of the gas flame. I just removed the rest of the coating by putting it back onto a flame and a little elbow grease i had a plain aluminum pot and no worries of the teflon leaching into the rice :)
I hope you at least washed it first

This is the best rice cooker on the market. .. I have one at home. $120.00 Thank you.
Rice cooker is really the best thing you can have in a kitchen by far, not only for rice, I make soups, stews... A lot of things
Japanology has a very interesting and informative episode about rice cookers, their development and new innovations and uses.
That's also a very good show
It's Taiwan tho
I saw that episode! Peter Barakan was so impressed by what they can do. But this episode shown is apparently for a Taiwanese brand.
Everyone's Taiwanese grandmother has one of these, from decades ago, and will tell you how much better it is than the new ones are. And the new ones are still considered the best in the game. While not the biggest brand in Taiwan, I would argue that it is the strongest associated with quality.
Simple and elegant, ingenuity from the country of Taiwan.
this is the first i heard of a rice cooker that you need to add water into the outer pot.
Yes, me too.
It’s actually a steam slow cooker. It used water as heat conductor , preventing inner pot directly contacting electric power high temperature heat pad. So your food will not experience any heat over 98~99 degree C. If you have experience on cooking canned soup (thick one, like chowder) over conventional stoves, you might experience burn in the button if u don’t stir it all the time while heating. This cooker doesn’t have to worry about it.
The real ones like this use steam to cook. Much better.
@@tianzining Great explanation 👍
Let me shed some light on this pot... it’s very famous in Taiwan for basically working forever. It’s not just a rice cooker as others have said. You can cook porridge or steam dumplings in this as well.
Many Taiwanese house have the rice cooker. This product is really convenient to cook or heat.
Great, now I'm in the mood for rice!
Short and simple way to understand this video 👌👌👌💓
Nice explanation,,,i love how you didn’t hide the logo & company’s name like the discovery tv channel
Wow.. Nice to learn. Thanks for this amazing video...😀
Thanks to this video i was able to repair my rice cooker. Many thanks. ^^
These looks way more robust than what we use when works differently. High quality stuff.
I love my rice cooker , orange
but green looks good as well
This new version of rice cooker seems better than the old way. Direct hitting element can end up burning your rice or at least have a hard rice at the bottom. This way the rice don't burn. Kinda like cooking sous-vide style.
It's old version actually.
Very good and interesting. The term used of "Technician", is stretching the definition to breaking point.
Thanks for the video.

Wowww..amazing. .Excellent. .👌
And here we have a Production Assembly Augumented by Machines, not replaced.
I needed to know this.
lol tbh the main purpose of this stuff is to steam whatever you want. Japanese rice cookers are much better at cooking rice. Also the funny thing is the company is having a hard time since the product is so durable that customers won't even need to replace it at all.
Interesting 👍😊
Uncle Roger's probably addicted to watching this.
you are funny nephew
Go! 大同!
Uhhh... our two rice cookers have a small plate that we put the pot on top of so the rice cooks. This must be a different style of rice cooker that is more complex and requires more labor to produce
After all these years, struggling to make the perfect rice in a rice maker. I’ve let down so many people including myself. Could not figure out what was the problem. But now my life turned around 360 degrees since i k ow that i have to walk away till it’s ready.
I love my rice cooker. Works great.

Why has my rabbit hole gone from honey, to laptops to rice cookers ? lol
This is a very specific thing that I don’t think anyone really cares about how it’s made but we dead ass decided to watch it... Ahahahahaha.
Add rice and water check. Press button check. Walk away until it's ready....how far do you have to walk? Or how far away can you walk in the time it takes for the rice to cook?
“Technician” lol sweatshop workers
adrianm413 aren’t all factory workers sweatshops?
Nick W my point?
Understand a rice cooker by handling it in real time is very simple...
Theoretical videos are quite complicated..
I use an electric pressure cooker to cook rice. Press for 8 minutes, then wait 3 minutes to release the pressure, and the rice is done. The ordinary rice cooker has to cook 40 minutes. I can't wait.
Nah around 20 mins for me
Great , can you do sheet bending animation but only the sheet is showing in the video ?
This product was not designed to cook rice perfectly. That's the job of high-tech Japanese rice cookers. This product is loved for being simple and utility. It's just a simple pot with heater.
大同電鍋lol
Im so surprised, they keep so many manual steps to avoid robots replace human...lol

If you ever feel useless, don't forget that there are water lines in a rice cooker pot.

No that's not how my rice cooker works. I don't know about other countries, but in India, we put rice and water together and the rice cooks and water dries inside the same pot
The name 'rice cooker' sounds misleading. We have a Tatung pot at home and we use to steam many foods like steamed buns. BTW, we have a Zojirushi IH (Induction Heating) rice cooker on the side.
What is this comment section, an amazon revew?

From a Asian person TIGER brand is the best rice cooker 👍🏽 your welcome 🙏🏽 😂😂
When I was young, my mom always wanted a TIGER but end up with Panasonic because of the price...
Japanese computerized rice cooker gives you best results on cooking rice, but this cooker beats it by cost and multi functional. Actually we don’t really use it to cook rice anymore today, we use it to reheat foods. Steam reheat is the favorite way for most of Taiwanese style food (don’t try this on pizza...it’s not a good idea to eat a pizza which is soaking wet).
Today, almost every Taiwanese families has two rice cooker. Japanese rice cooker and this one.

Was it produced in Los Alamos
How are ship launche ballast air bags made......????
Because cooking rice on the stove is so fuckin challenging

This has gotta be Uncle Roger’s favorite weejio.
That’s a cute lil rice cooker

Looks like a Chinese version and different method than the Japanese style Zojirushi and Tiger
This is how Japanese rice cookers were in the 60s and 70s.
I've had both Aroma and Zojirushi rice cookers and I've never seen one that sits in a water bath. Japanese style cookers you just put the rice and water into the main pot, no water outside of the main pot.
