Great and inspirational carving to a newbie carver like me. What wood donyo prefer to carve? Many thanks
Hi there I using locally found driftwood of all kinds. Some of them soft some harder. I started with harder ones its slower but harder to make mistakes. Soft ones the bits goes into so fast if you not control the hand piece it firewood.
advice on dealing with dust? my workshop is in an unfinished basement, havent started carving with a dremel yet but id imagine the dust would be extreme
First Last Don’t start without dust collector even if you wear dust mask. I have this and totally worth it no dust around me. www.harborfreight.com/2-hp-industrial-5-micron-dust-collector-97869.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiMjE4NTExNDUiLCJza3UiOiI5Nzg2OSIsImlzIjoiMTc5Ljk5IiwicHJvZHVjdF9p%0D%0AZCI6IjM4OTEifQ%3D%3D%0D%0A
what sort of dust collector are you using ? spectacular carving..I use to do wood work , crafts, furniture, odds and ends...and then tried carving, but as I aged the wood smell and dust really got to me.....could not do it anymore.
Ed Will I made that table what you see on the video. That’s a box with pegboard on top and 4 “ tube on the bottom. I attached my dust collector to it and the dust goes out of the other side of my shed. I wearing dust mask all the time.

Is this based on the old native tales of the wise old man, or simply a wise old man in general? My great grandfathers tribe claims he came to them and showed them a cave to hide in months before. "a great sky fire destroyed the land" A cave they still live near to this day, despite geological evidence suggesting that the last meteor impact of such magnitude was around 12,000-13,000 years ago. Either way it's an impressive and beautiful piece of art yet again, especially if based on an entity known to speak through wood-crafts and those open to creation and kindness.
I named this one. Thats a really interesting tale. I going to print out and always remember this tale. Thanks for sharing.
@@carvingandsuch I'm glad you appreciate it, Other tales claim he drifts on the wind helping those in dire need and inspiring works of art. He is said to be partial to the forests of north america but I have also heard tales of him guiding Inuit tribes to safety. I like to think he's behind all the interesting discolorations I find while cutting up fallen branches.
A prime example today I found a spot that looks like a spade coming from the core. If it posted I treated the surface with superglue to prevent splitting and to make the sycamore more durable.

So, basically, you cut away everything that doesn't look like a wood spirit. J/k, job well done.
