This was a really great, concise video. The thumbnail with Thomas is fake tho. That was actually an old composite I did. 3D model on a 2D plate. I've since tried to improve it.
@dynamodigitaldesign8293 it’s a real model of Thomas it was different Thomas when they are making for the pilot episode for 1983 he literally give you evidence and the screenshot Thomas it’s actually a real model Thomas when they are doing for the pilot!
Yeah I know that, that's why I gave credit to you for it in the video. But it's the closest we're gonna get to seeing what the Pilot model would've looked like behind the scenes for now... And that's what makes it so good.
I really hope that the 2025 remastered release of the Pilot actually happens. It's been gone from the public for *FAR* too long. I doubt it, but if it somehow leaks before then, that would be incredible. 2022 was the peak of Thomas lore and BTS unearthing/leaks, so I doubt that could be topped.

with the new technology in micro cameras and model trains, I really wish they would go back to models. DCC has become cheap enough that you could make so many functions on the train including chuffing, smoke, the eye movement, even bell ringing
Even though I don’t really care about seeing the pilot, but after learning about the BTS stuff that I wasn't aware of from this video, I'll be looking forward to seeing it 2 years from now.
Ah, so it’s not too much different to the actual episode. It’s just the intro shots that are different because we don’t see Thomas backing down to Annie and Clarabel. The only other thing that’s different is the shot of the guard, like you said.
I have an old Thomas and friends cd that I used to watch over and over as a kid. I know for a fact it contains the pilot. “Down the mine”. However it has been a few years since the cd has actually played all the way through. As it’s gotten a bit scratched up. I’ll need to find it again and see if anyone could perhaps restore it
There are disc polisher machines. Try a locally owned used game and/or movie store. If you do have the pilot and upload it you will become beloved online.
my cd has the whole down the mine epidode not a pilot too when i was 5 and then i decided to put it in water making it unplayable im the only one who saw it but i didnt know when i was 5

There was on the Sodor Island Forums a photograph of the original pilot Gordon model, with a much deeper running plate.
Would you mind sending the link? As the Pilot model shown in the video is the only type known to exist so I'm not sure what you mean.

We did manage to uncover a photo of the James model and accounts from people who worked on it. Maybe there’s a chance we could find it one day.

Thomas Down the Mine wasn’t released on any CD. You could probably be confusing it for the TVS version, Down the Mine.
