I believe that this performance set a standard for many students like myself, upon which they built their own interpretations of this magnificent piece. I marvel at how great is Pierri's undersanding of this piece's rhythmics, I have never heard another player capture its spirit so faithfully. It is an absolute masterpiece of a performance
Yep. I'm a pianist and sometimes when Im playing a piece that took me years to learn, I always get amazed at how the fuck my brain and fingers are doing this. Seriously, playing an instrument is one of the most amazing things that a human can do.
As a guitarist, that's true. Like, I play the pieces, but even I get amazed and I don't really know how I do these things. I mean, yes I know, but when I see recordings it's like, it's amazing how I can do these things
This is far and away the best version of Choros 1. True emotion and rhythm, evoking the heart of brazilian music. And a huge inspiration for me. Gracias maestro!
I dont remember the last time I called a performance perfect! The sound is soo clear and hes so far from making any mistakes. Plus the interpretation itself is really interesting BRAVO!
I have to agree. One of the best, if not THE best interpretation of this piece. According to my taste, at least. I love the way he does it, rhythm, dynamics, and also the little freedoms he takes by embellishing certain phrases.
This is wonderful playing the tone of the guitar was out of this world and the interpretation was perfect. The last few bars the tempo speeded up which gave a different twist to what is normally expected and worked a treat. GGSNI
As almost always, maestro Pierri takes HUGE liberties with the tempo here. Some will always hate that, but I love it. I remember seeing him in concert playing Albeniz "Sevillia" and it became unrecognizable midway through. It was still great.
This is 'Chorinho' or simply 'Choro', a Brazilian musical style that combines European classical music with Brazilian popular street music from the 19th century (samba e batucada). The great reference in the creation of the style was Chiquinha Gonzaga, pianist and first woman to conduct an orchestra in Brazil.
It's a pretty good effort, this tune when you play it is a little like getting in and out of a taxi between getting on tram that almost crashed into a bus.
Enjoying learning this piece (on Steel and nylon guitars). Thankfully I just got through learning Gran Jota (by Tárrega) ..so, I now have +5 defence from awkward phrasing and techniques
I like the sound quality alot. His guitar is very nice. He plays the right hand with such ease. I have hector villa lobos on youtube with my A. Hermosa guitar. It is achallenge to play that guitar!
He's the best I've found so far, but I feel like it's a bit too much of a classical music interpretation (focused on strict crescendos and traditional building, across phrases), which is inappropriate for a dramatic Latin, especially Portuguese - the land of Fado - song. Trifles too much and loses the emotional tone/current among the changing phrases.
2nd bar there's wrong note being played, he plays A note insted of B note, and repeats the same mistake every time when reaching that part, strange.... On the other hand, he is a very good player with good technique and overall performance is good, strange how could he have missed that note. Might have not learnt it right.. else, that should be counted as his version/interpetation of the piece....
If it's too hard to play, you take one measure at a time and play it over and over until you have it down, then you go to measure 2. It's amazing how the brain and fingers will assimilate the information little by little. But if you never do it, then guess what?
His tone is really beautiful, and not thin at all. Perhaps you're used to the avarage guitarist's tone, which is way too bold, and therefore quite ugly. BTW: John Williams' tone is way, waay thinner.
Having grown up with Julian Bream's intense, dramatic interpretation of the piece, I found this an interesting contrast in its lightness of touch and sense of rhythm. But Bream stuck to the notes on the page, as do most other guitarists - I find the improvised jazzy embellishments in the repeats quite irritating and unnecessary.

For me it is one of the best interpretations I have heard. Not penetrating like so many.
Very delicate.
Just great.
+nikoud1960 so much agreed
Manuel Barrueco is the man
This is far and away the best version of Choros 1. True emotion and rhythm, evoking the heart of brazilian music. And a huge inspiration for me. Gracias maestro!
It's the best interpretation of this piece
Grande Lennon
Absolutely the best interpretation I have heard of this piece. Beautiful intonation. Excellent.
Amazing!!! He is the GOAT of guitar
the best version I've heard of this -
Bravo!
Thanks for all the Bach, Jerry.
I dont remember the last time I called a performance perfect! The sound is soo clear and hes so far from making any mistakes. Plus the interpretation itself is really interesting
BRAVO!
Maravilha!!!
Truly one of the greats. Such a musical interpretation!
Wow... it's truly amazing.
Really nice balance of tempo!
I really love his accelerated ending! He does it in a way that it doesn't make him seem like he just wants to get it over with!
Astoundingly nuanced version. Perhaps the best I've heard.
best interpretation of this piece by far.
Muito boa a interpretação. Bem definida e com muito bom gosto.
Finalmente bajaron este video! Gracias!
I have to agree. One of the best, if not THE best interpretation of this piece. According to my taste, at least. I love the way he does it, rhythm, dynamics, and also the little freedoms he takes by embellishing certain phrases.
never! im from brazil! Baden, Paulinho, Raphael Rabello, Yamandu, the real versions
Thanks for your comment, I'll check these out (if I find recordings or videos).
Absolument parfait !
Ça fait rêver! ! Vraiment un guitariste exceptionnel.
C'est tout simplement beau !
Great video, thanks for the upload.

my favorite guitarrist
Amazing interpretation, I've never heard it so 'introvert' and delicate but I love it this way.
Very sensitive, inventive, expressive, playful, interesting, and sweet interpretation.
BRAVO
Exelente interpretacion.,me cautivo su sonido y expresion,,gracias Maestro
I love this song. My teacher gave it to me and said that I can play it. I was amazed. I love this song but it's still so unbelievably hard to play
Like warm melting butter! - Superb.
What a great interpretation!
I think H. Villa lobos would have loved to hear this interpretation.
It's a pretty good effort, this tune when you play it is a little like getting in and out of a taxi between getting on tram that almost crashed into a bus.
He understands the lilt. South American music is rarely more than a whisker away from dancing.
Enjoying learning this piece (on Steel and nylon guitars).
Thankfully I just got through learning Gran Jota (by Tárrega) ..so, I now have +5 defence from awkward phrasing and techniques
Great interpretation!!! It's pretty different than the other ones :)
que interpretação parabéns
wow. so lyrical. Stunning interpretation.
I wish it'd like this when I attempt to play this piece :(
Magnificent performance!
I think this tune is best played by maestro Pierri here...
Wish i could have that guitar. It sounds very very nice.
Magistral!
lindo !!! bravo !!!
He owns the piece....
best interpretation ever!
I like the sound quality alot. His guitar is very nice. He plays the right hand with such ease. I have hector villa lobos on youtube with my A. Hermosa guitar. It is achallenge to play that guitar!
Fantastic!!

+kruchkamgar the land of Fado is Portugal, the composer is Villa-Lobos from Brazil
yes, and brazil was founded on Portuguese tradition, primarily. or is this incorrect?
Just look to the oh so European room in which he plays! haha
kruchkamgar Well, I'm brazilian and, for my taste, he absolutely nailed it. One of the best interpretation of this piece I've ever seen.
ruclips.net/video/Uj_OferFIMk/видео.html
@@kruchkamgar Brazil is founded on several cultures, very different from Portuguese!
Alvaro le magicien...
First time I heared this was during a commercial break at CNN while following the first gulf war. You Too..??
is this Daniel Friederich????
the speed is great, villa lobos never intended this piece to be fast
Fantastiline! I like it!
Just brilliant! I got the album a few years ago featuring this piece. So great to see the performance. Thanks for posting this.
great very sensitive ... i like this

very good interpretation. i liked it very much, but chorinho usually is played rather fast
By the way, a song has words (lyrics) but a piece is instrumental.
caralho que interpretação foda
Increadible
very very good and good song
BRILLIANT
LUAR BIASA !!
mi illumino d'immenso!
Bravo...
:..)
have you got a $6000 guitar?
sound level is just a little low, otherwise personnality and very good work
the fingering's aren't off, they've just been re arranged. Pierri is a great arranger.
Molto personale, bellissima interpretazione.
First thing that came to mind too..!!!John Lennon would wish to play guitar like that..
Best performance ever
There's another performance as good as this by Turibio Santos: ruclips.net/video/lqnVCIzyVEU/видео.html
bravo!

Delicado!
No sound.
We met in India
Alvaro the mole pierri
awesome
Thin tone in the right hand. Perhaps lowering that right hand away from the sound hole would warm up that tone
Yeah, I watched other performers doing that
His tone is really beautiful, and not thin at all. Perhaps you're used to the avarage guitarist's tone, which is way too bold, and therefore quite ugly. BTW: John Williams' tone is way, waay thinner.
Nah its pretty thin. You're right about John Williams though.
He's
Magdiel Zuniga turn on 480p, better sound, he has good tone, its very warm and clear.
BRAVO
FUCKING STUNNING
Alex Cheng this music from Brazil ande the composer is HEITOR VILLA LOBOS
Genius has no time for Haircuts.
great performance though
Staring at a God c:
