Great video! But if you imagine yourself in the Amazon rainforest while listening to Villa Lobos... I would just like to point out I doubt Villa Lobos even ever went anywhere near the Amazon rainforest. The background for his works was much more inspired by the metropolitan atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro, a decadent metropolis ravaged by poverty and crime and the southeastern Brazil countryside, which looks a lot like the stereotypical American "South" with folkish rednecks but with less racism. He also has some pieces inspired by Northeastern Brazil culture, which I could only summarize as something like the Wild West...all of these places are closer to Africa to anywhere near the Amazon. This time, the modern way, choosing repertoire on RUclips and Spotify and then buying or downloading the scores on the Internet. Next thing I knew I bought a Tonebase subscription. It's incredible, I truly recommend it. If you have the time, you can learn so much.. Villa-Lobos was probably the greatest Brazilian composer for solo guitar (and more) but I feel that not enough people play Garoto. Paulo Bellinatti recovered his incredible work. The fingerings are challenging for players only used to play classical guitar as they require sometimes the use of 5 fingers on the right hand or semi bars with the left hand. Easier if you have played jazz or bossa nova before. I wish you play some of his music so that more people give it the deserved credit as he passed too young and kind of was forgotten. Your execution is Very, Very, veeery accurate for a stranger, a foreigner. It's so rare to finding someone who does a perfect Brazilian accent in guitar. Congrats! Do you know Baden Powell and your son, Marcel, and Raphael Rabello, Paulinho Nogueira or Yamandú Costa? All of them are excellent composers of acoustic guitar pieces. Awesome performance, congrats!! Villa-Lobos was, indeed, a genius, very few could compose from high end classical music to sitting at bohemian bars beside the then marginalized choro players...my favorites are Bachiana Brasileira nº 5 and Uirapuru (an adventure inside the amazon forest).
Lucas! I know this type of video doesn’t get nearly as much traction as the videos that are memes but I am so grateful that you also share music that is very close to your musical soul and hope that you keep sharing this with us! My favorite work from Villa Lobos is the D Major Prelude.
Villa-Lobos is one legend in this vast world, and his great-nephew is guitarist too, not a classical composer but very influential in the brazilian music, specifically in the brazilian rock
Lucas, it an immense pleasure listen to you talking about and play the marterpieces of these incredible legends. The guitar is what it is thanks to them. I thank you for this kind of contents, keep it going!
How many guitarists can say with Lucas ...."when I used to be a classical guitar player ...." like saying ..."I was kicking around the summit of Everest one foggy afternoon when I decided I should probably head back down..." !!
This is awesome! Actually, in terms of another survey series, part of me would love to hear the technical thoughts behind how you might fuse different styles together. Not just the resulting fusion, but what it takes to make the fusion happen.
I like that in 3:16, it shows a piece of the sheet music, with the letters 'i', 'p', 'm' and 'a'. That shows it is a brazilian sheet for guitar, because those are the abbreviations for "polegar" (thumb), "indicador" (index), "médio" (middle) and "anelar" (ring finger).

It's so nice to know that Villa Lobos' work is known outside Brazil, he's a true genius!
I play also some of these pieces and I never get sick of it, they are so fun, challenging and beautiful at the same time
I studied classical guitar in my teens and I had never heard of this composer, but once I got to the level where I could start studying his compositions, he is my favorite
They teach the boring European stuff...this has life and energy and melody you can sing
That no 7 was perfect, goddamn. Greetings from a fellow guitar student.
And once again, Lucas is honoring our country. I found it really beautiful all the love that you have for brazilian music, and yes, Villa-Lobos is one of the best brazilian composers (if not THE best, honestly). Thank you for this amazing video!
Hey Lucas,
I (and probably many others) would love to see you compose the most beautiful piece that expresses all your feelings through your guitar skills. I'd pay for this :)
Thank you very much! Greetigs from São Paulo, Brazil!!!
Hey Lucas, thank you for showcasing Villa-Lobos with such beauty.
I would love it if you could showcase Yamandu Costa next.
Much love from Brazil. 🇧🇷🔴
im so glad that you're continuing this series man. your barrios and tarrega videos are some of your best!
Just realized it's more than 30 years since I played those... Darn it, time flies...
Better get playing or your fingers can't move like they used to. I know from experience of some arthritis it changes your options
As an amateur Brazilian classical guitar player I really enjoyed this video and would like so much to have more videos like this about his pieces! Amazing job bro! Long time follower! Never disappointed with your videos! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Que maravilhosos ver nos brasileiros tendo a sua interpretação da musica brasileira. Parabéns pela magnífica obra.
Sooparrbbbb!!!! (My subtle attempt at Inspector Cleusau humour) All jokes to the one side, a truly triumphant composer and performer, one Lucas Brar! Bravo!!!
Those melodies always makes me want to start learning classical guitar
Doesn't have to be classical. Bossa nova and samba is equally beautiful and takes you into this world
It's nice to see that you actually have a serious side! I first watched your "when a classical guitarist discovers the blues" video, and got a good laugh from it.
You're connected to good stuff Lucas! Keep up with the good work!
Lately it haven't been easy to be a brazillian, but listening Villa Lobos makes me feel proud of the musical culture that once was created here.... Thank you so much for this
Your execution is Very, Very, veeery accurate for a stranger, a foreigner.
I think that you will like, If you doesn't know them.
Hugs from Brazil!
As usual, another fantastic very informative video. I love Villa-Lobos and I truly believe that he would have loved your performances of his music.
That was realy good! +1 for the etude n*7, î’ve never been able to play it properly, you did it with such a good tone and flow… awesome!
Exceptional sustain and tone!
You’re amazing young man
Im Brazilian and im glad you remember Villa Lobos!
A lot of people dont know, but Brasil besides Villa Lobos has great other legendary composers like Carlos Gomes, Ernesto Nazaré, Pixinguinha, Garoto…
Lucas, it would be very interesting for you also make one about the great guitarrist and composer Dilermando Reis
thanks for this beautiful video about the great master Heitor Villa Lobos
Awesome performance, congrats!! Villa-Lobos was, indeed, a genius, very few could compose from high end classical music to sitting at bohemian bars beside the then marginalized choro players...my favorites are Bachiana Brasileira nº 5 and Uirapuru (an adventure inside the amazon forest).
It's so beautiful...I'm speechless and, as a brazilian, honored. Thank you.
Um vídeo mais que brazuca com um dos nossos expoentes da música universal. Meus parabéns e muito obrigado. Sucesso!
Quem é esse cara?
@@andresouza6346 Dado Villa-Lobos, ele é sobrinho-neto de Heitor Villa-Lobos
@@MatterOfFactItsAllDark Caramba, véi! Não fazia ideia!!
Finally! Great as always, Lucas!
Love it brother! You inspired me to always continue to hone my craft. 💜
I am grateful to see these beautiful pieces from my country being played around the world, thank you Lucas
Thanks for the video!
Obrigado pelo vídeo!
Villa-Lobos its incredible!
Villa Lobos é realmente incrível!
Lucas, it an immense pleasure listen to you talking about and play the marterpieces of these incredible legends. The guitar is what it is thanks to them. I thank you for this kind of contents, keep it going!
Até parece que você conhece a chamada "alma brasileira", essencial para tocar Villa-Lobos bem. E você toca Villa-Lobos muito bem. Parabéns.
How many guitarists can say with Lucas ...."when I used to be a classical guitar player ...." like saying ..."I was kicking around the summit of Everest one foggy afternoon when I decided I should probably head back down..." !!
Um dos estilos musicais mais lindos que existem aqui no Brasil é o choro, não tem como não se envolver, vai da ponta dos pés até a alma.
I'm Brazilian, and i love your videos, damn, it's so much beauty
I'd love to hear your take on Baden Powell, for many the greatest Brazilian popular guitar player. Great video as always
Much love, man! Love always! Thank you, you made my day!
Ótimo vídeo, muito obrigado por trazer essas belas obras de Villa Lobos. 🙏🙏🙏
