- In this video I talk about some things I think are important when choosing your grow media. There are two main things that I can think of. 1. It needs to be pH neutral. 2. It needs to be easy on your hands so you can dig out plants and put new ones in.

I have the clay pebbles, but the plants float when my system fills?
Ever tried sand?
Can you mix lava and hydroten?
Big box store where I can find hydroton? Please advise!
Pierre Barnabe Amazon
how about marbles or cut glass?
Off the top of my head, it seems like it should work chemically, BUT glass is heavy... so, if you want to make a pretty little system for the house or office, it could look nice (and if you have trouble with accumulated solids, youll notice easier) but if you are doing a larger system, the weight will need to be a consideration, same as if you are using rock.
I like digging for clay lmao... for many reasons mainly jewelry casting.
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for
buy a aquaponics system
try Proutklarton Surviving Instruction Plan ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
OMG I am scientist too but this saying as if natural soil and also natural neutral pH rocks are not good enough for growing plants. If you wanna sell your products use science but do not mislead masses...
river rock mess up ph
aaqil Rajah, it can for sure but some river rock does not have limestone in it so some of it is OK. If you run this test on your rock you should be OK provided it does not start fizzing like soda:)
