Thank you very much. I found this very informative. In actual fact, I found the substitute I was hoping to find - but didn't have much hope of finding :). Appreciate your time.
If there is an offensive smell it is probably caused by the beds blocking. Clean the bed to avoid blocking and there should not be any offensive smells.
I bought some gravel similar to that from my nearby stone yard - I did the vinegar test and it effervesced like mad. I picked out the black rocks, they also effervesced. I picked out the grey rocks, same result. So, what kind of stone is that that you're using there?
@@aquacultureinnovations7606 After I left that comment, I called my local rock yard. They said I can test in the yard (like you recommended). and I can try basalt, meridian granite, and royal mica. Hopefully one of them works. Thanks so much for this video!
I'm using more of a pea gravel from a local source. The only problem is how heavy it is! Annoying to mess with. But we can't have our cake and eat it too I suppose.
Never heard of the vinegar test. Thank you for putting useful knowledge into the world. You are a hero of the people.

Good evening Chew, the rock we use is inert, I do not know the actual rock type but believe it is granite

What about heavy metals found in testing with rocks intead of grodan cubes?
We do not test for heavy metals but if they are a concern in the area where you operate then you could test for them
