happy birthday Mozart - and sweet memories to mister Gulda who went with the melodies today as well- but we have youtube so i hope he lives longer - imagine- we would have had cameras in Mozarts time - and we could have this today - only an Austrian can represent this flair of his music- thats why Gulda was born !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Mozart since I can remember and Gulda is favourite. This is simply amazing. I never get sick of listening to this. It's a shame that Gulda isn't here anymore. Bless his soul.
stormy and cloudy nights, one carriage and a lady in a hurry on it and then travelling on green endless fields is what always comes to my mind when I listen to this piece of perfection
this is definitely one of Mozart's best piano concerto's, you can tell he put a lot of work into it... And if it comes from Mozart, it's by far the best piano concerto of all time.. I doubt there will ever be another like Mozart, you'd really have to live a life in retreat from reality to end up like him. He got caught in his own musical world to escape the pressures of society, royal requests, constant reminder of debt, critics who criticized for the hell of it, and many dead children of his.
Back in the 90's Friedrich Gulda played a Mozart piano concert at the " Salzburger Festspiele" . after the gig he moved over to the " Residenzplatz" to jam with Joe Zawinul " . I was there - simply fantastic.
It's just amazing..I've never experienced Gulda in concert; however, I remember very well his Decca LP recordings of all Beethovens's piano concerts. They gave me a lot of joy when I was a young man. Now I'll have to listen to them again...
Many thanks for posting this great performance of this concerto!!! Gulda captures the playfulness, tempo, and whimsicality of Mozart perfectly. This performance is even better than the recorded 1975 version with Gulda as soloist and Claudio Abbado leading the Vienna Philharmonic.
This was a first experience listening to this wonderful pianist and I learn, thanks to Wikipedia, that he died on 27 January 2000, on the birthdate of his beloved Mozart, at the age of 69. What a talent and it carries forward in his children, two sons are concert pianists.
Thank you so much for posting this! One can really feel the orchestra and the piano is one. The whole piece is one continuous flow of various emotion. I felt I've taken on such an exciting journey. RIP, Gulda.
Speaking as another old man, it's great to see an old bloke at the top of his game. We old fellows are so lucky to have lived so long and enjoyed so much!
somehow, among all of mozart's compositions, or even the classical repertoire, this movement is always stuck in my mind. and this version is simply to mee the most eloquent interpretation. having said that, most of the renditions out there are still very fine, since this piece is just sublime
This is sublime . . . it is straight from the Heaven of God . . . Awesome performance . . . I am sure Mozart would have loved to hear it and see the whole concert ! Gulda shows a lot of LOVE . . . . emotions . . . Mozart speaks through the whole thing . . . . it takes us back into his time . . . One of the best man's ears can ever hear . . . . John 3:16-18 John 3:36 Romans 10:19-13 Thank you from Texas !
My favourite interpretation so far! I guess Gulda got the romantic side of this work. As Hazelwood said, Mozart is THE first romantic. This concerto needs to be played with fire and passion.
I think Gulda is excellent. I enjoy watching him and listening to his playing. I'm no pianist nor am I qualified to critique the finer points of classical performance... but he seems very good to me. Lots of passion and feeling in his playing. Inspired.
Gulda plays with so much energy and passion! When he plays Mozart we all can hear and feel that this music is like from Beethoven pure HUMANITY. Gulda's message: Lets have fun and a nice life !
The pure energy and vitality of this particular performance always hits me. Goulda is actually one of the rare performers who have a very keen sense of what Mozart 'wanted to say'. Weather he uses the pedal or not is utterly irrelevant and shouldn't really be an issue. In my opinion, his performance is probably the best out there. +This is really great video/audio quality! Great job tguiot :D
I first heard this as a kid learning piano and it made such an impression on me that years later I tried to emulate it in my own Piano Concerto No 2 in d minor which is on my YT homepage and in which I tried to capture all the power passion and drama of this masterwork. Listen to just the first two minutes and tell me if I succeeded. I'm no Mozart, granted, but my point is that there are much better composers than myself out there who could write something like this. Tonal is not extinct.
First of all, I'm a violinist so obviously I don't know all that much about the piano. In my opinion, Gulda's interpretation is pretty emotional with some "hidden passion". I think for those who think he plays this piece with some lack of emotion is because of the way he touches the keys... a little bit harsh and less sensitive compare to perhaps Augerich or Uchida. However, I still think his interpretation is one of the best!
Mozart wrote this piano concerto in 1785...he was 29 that time. About the video recorded in 1986 with that clearness, it seems to me wasn't VHS, but 35 mm movie film. Thank you, Superchrisma for sharing. Great !
i love mozart and i am using this and the secind video for a concert report( that required attendance and i think this video will well for me... F.G. is an amazing director that can multi task...just what i like in a man
Friedrich Gulda won the International Competition in Geneva in 1946 when he was 16 years old. Maybe some that speak about his lack of emotion know better than the judges of this contest. But Gulda's Mozart performances are widely appreciated. Those of us who cannot perform as he can should limit the critiques.
I got some old MMS (Musical Masterpiece Society) 33 of a very young Gulda playing Kv 466 and Kv 467. Moreover I got a MMS Gulda Beethoven sonatas and from then now I chose him as one of my favourite concertists.

I didn't know he passed away. It's sad. His are always my favorite adaptations of Mozart's compositions.
Grew up on this version. I recognized it's superiority the moment I found it on RUclips. It's a shame he's gone; but he's here!
this is what life's all about, the emotion and the beauty. Played with the emotion that Mozart would of intended.
stormy and cloudy nights, one carriage and a lady in a hurry on it and then travelling on green endless fields is what always comes to my mind when I listen to this piece of perfection
Yea, Gulda plays and conducts it perfectly. This is the best performance I've ever heard.
he's outstanding.. plays and leads the orchestra at the same time.. this is maybe the best performance of this piece that I've ever heard
One of my all time favourite classical compositions!!!
How does words describe this passion?
His performance is flawless.
Perfect, absolutely perfect !! This is in my opinion by far the best version of this sublime concerto.
this is definitely one of Mozart's best piano concerto's, you can tell he put a lot of work into it... And if it comes from Mozart, it's by far the best piano concerto of all time..

MOZART & GULDA IS MAGNIFICIENT !
This music contains all the mystery of man's existence and his eventual destiny.
It's depth and intensity is simply unparalleled.
Verissimo
anything mozart is almost immediately recognizable, its all stunningly beautiful music
Could be the best version composed. Unbelievably great
I believe that Ashkenazy's version is the best version.
Fantastic !! Even if the great pianist wasn't orthodox his talent was immense!!!This one is a memorable execution!
Absolument sublime !!!!!
Mozart = un génie.

Friedrich Gulda pulls some great dance moves as he's conducting. Stunning!
I have listened to a bit of Mozart and I love his heavy feel. Such power.

Try listening to Ashkenazy's version.
One of my favorite piano concertos. So haunting, so beautiful.

This is the most wonderful play that I have ever heard. Pretty good.
