As a native, Asheville was much more quaint in the 90s-2010. This last boom through Covid is making this nice lil city a small Austin. Glad more have discovered this gem but seeing more homes than green on the mountains is a bit sad
There are more people but I am enjoying it now as much as I did when I lived here in 2001. There is just so much more now to explore! But yes, I hear you about homes on the sides of mountains.
Asheville is nice B U T its so expensive! Our current rent for 2 bed rooms 2 Baths is around $2,250 a month(Beaucatcher Flats)! ! ! It's like living in New York or California! Can't find any local seafood market that has different variety of fish... retirement in Asheville only works for RICH people not for the average hard working blue collar jobs. (traveler nurse here from Mission Hosp)
I saw a crawdad in the river the other day, that's about as local as you can get!
As a senior citizen. I’m frankly insulted by the tone of this. She continually refers to us needing easy things we’re not going to backpack we’re not going to hike. We’re not walking around. I specifically would never choose her as a realtor and I am relocating to North Carolina.
Hi Linda! I truly meant no harm and was basing it off clients who I help who are retiring to the area and what their general needs are. You like outside the norm and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Be well.
How the healthcare ?
Lots of options and good. Check out Advent Health, Mission hospital, MEHEC and there are lots of Specialists here as well.
@@livinginasheville Mission Hospital is horrible since it was sold to a for-profit.
Thanks, I have been waiting for you to do such a video.
Hi Rich! Just for you! You are on my list for email an I have not forgotten. :) Hope you are doing well. Spring is here and everything is popping!
@@livinginasheville No problem and no rush. We are enjoying the videos!
Thank you!
Retirement sounds like a great idea I shared on Twitter. Keep up the good work, #grateful
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Beth for this video. Wondering whether Asheville or Raleigh (Cary) area would be better for a whole food plant based eater? Looking to live somewhere to retire in NC where I can access fresh vegetables, whole grains, oil free, etc. While it is an essential part of how I live, I don't regularly talk about it with others. I simply want access to this way of eating without people thinking I am strange! I noticed an HMart is in Cary, NC but also Asheville strikes me as perhaps more "open" to an asian food/vegetarian lifestyle. What are your thoughts about this?
Yes- I think it would easy to find what you need (or don’t need) here. There are many alternative lifestyle people and Whole Foods enthusiasts here. We like all!
@@livinginasheville Thanks!
Do you help people if they want to rent?
I do not, I know I bit about it though- and could refer you to a great person that does.
Great if you are middle class and more upscale financially because gentrification is what's going on and displacing lower income and poor residents and the homeless population is increasing. Mission Hospital is having a lot of issues causing doctors to leave, not enough staff to patient ratio, etc and good 'ole corporate medicine. Advent Hospital Fletcher /Henersonville and Pardee UNC Health Hendersonville offers better health health care. Great area if you have MONEY !
I agree, there’s a lot changing right now in this area and some locals who have been here for generations are being pushed out because they can no longer afford to live here. My mother just had a knee replacement AdventHealth and she is now a raving fan.
YOU SPELLED CAROLINA WRONG! (at 0:04 you put CALORINA)
Dang it! Some people are definitely on the chopping block now. 💓😊💓 But seriously, thank you for catching that.
Thanks for watching! Let me know what YOU think about retiring in Asheville NC 🌄
I’ve read it’s expensive so not sure it would work for us but it sure looks pretty. I am trying to escape the homeless issues we have out here in WA and heard that its also becoming an issue in Asheville. Can you comment? Thanks. Btw… how is options for healthcare? That is a big issue for retirees.
Hi! Asheville is a hub for healthcare and have the largest hospitals in the area. Mission Hospital, is Mission Health's flagship hospital, licensed for 815 beds. Healthgrades named Mission Hospital as of one America's 50 Best Hospitals from 2020-2023, identifying the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for providing the highest clinical quality year over year. It is a Level 2 Drama center and the largest in WNC.
AdventHeath is also huge here. Here is their link- centracare.adventhealth.com/urgent-care/asheville
There are tons of resources for people of all ages, with general heath, chiropractors, physical therapy, etc.
Homelessness- Like most of the USA- we have a homeless population . Here is great article about the current situation in Asheville from our local paper.
