We moved to Lake Lure at retirement. Close enough to Asheville (20 miles) and Hendersonville for convenience but far enough to have small town feel. We love the lake and there is a true community feel.
It always takes me a good 50 or so minutes to get the Lake Lure with those beautiful windy road through the rhododendron and waterfalls. There are two main second home areas near Asheville. lake Lure and Wolfe Laurel in Mars Hill. Popular in different seasons with both having special properties. Lake Lure definitely has its charm with the Mountian backdrop. Do you go to Hendersonville much from there?
We moved to Mills River about 40 years ago, long before it was incorporated. Asheville is about 30 minutes from us. Mills River is a rapidly growing community. We are quite happy to be living here.
I recently moved to Weaverville, yes another CA transplant! I didn't want to live in the city, but have it easily accessible. I love living here in the woods and quiet with Asheville in my backyard.
Thank you for all these informative information; we moved here late 2020. It will be 2 years I would say Asheville is a great place to live especially if you’re an outdoor person. Can’t complain especially coming from a dense population of California. We went to some of the places that you enumerated however, some of them we never did, we will check them out, thanks. Also, there was one video you had featured about “radon”, I was completely unaware of it. Never thought this would come out, immediately when I found out I kinda freaked out since California are stringent with this compliance. But it worked out someone came in to check & educate us to what to do and not. Also, they said newly built houses are somewhat protected. If I didn’t see your videos I couldn’t have known this apparently, that’s why I am very thankful for all the important information you shared. Hope the best & please continue of giving us more informative information for the new settlers. ❤
Wow! Best comment to date! Thank you as well for taking the time to leave it. Welcome to Asheville! I am so happy your are enjoying your time. The spring buds are starting to come out and my favorite 3/4 of the year is just beginning. Say hey if you ever see me out, please. Thanks, again!
Fletcher here, toward the Fairview side, but still Buncombe Cty. Been here 9 years, work in east Asheville, commute on the Blue Ridge. I've lived all over the place (Miami, San Francisco, Durham) and despite it becoming more populated recently, this is still the best place I have lived.
I just rewatched the Black Mountian segment and missed where I said 15 min. - then mapped it from Asheville, where I am and it was 17 min. But I agree, at busy times and depending on which part of Asheville you are going to- it could be more.
We met with the mayor of Canton the other night and it was so informative. Canton is going to see rapid growth, we suspect but it is so heartbreaking for those generations of families who have lived there and worked at the mill for years. They are not sure yet what will happen with the building yet and if something else will move in or not.
That’s a very good question and I’m not sure I can fully answer that. I can say that you will find more diversity closer to Asheville city in the city limits. Then you will once you get more out into Buncombe county.
Yes! Waynesville is right down the road, about 30-40 minutes away and has lots of vacation rentals, etc. It is definitely a different vibe and demographics than Asheville but also beautiful.
We’re planning a trip out to Asheville area to get more acquainted with the area for the purposes of buying some property and moving there from Texas (gotta get away from this heat!). Waynesville is one of the places I’m considering. Thanks for the info!

Stop inviting people here without acknowledging the strain on natives/locals with overdevelopment. This place will cease to be “the beautiful mountain town” we love.
Liberal areas in Red states always the most expensive by far, always the most artsy, musical, hip. Austin, Ashville, Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Knoxville ect ect. Find a liberal era, find legal weed, cool and hip. Want a admire your local trees, a good bible study, and good clean white town that closes by 9, conservative. We are different 100%.
What other towns would you like take a closer look at? What are your favorite smaller areas right outside of Asheville? Let us know here.... ⬇

@@livinginasheville yes. That is where we go when we need “the big city” although our daughter lives in Asheville and we are there often as well.
So nice to be near family! Lake Lure is so peaceful.

Totally agree. I’ve been all over the world and always come back home. Sometimes even after years and years.
I tried to live in Candler (I love it!). I ended up in Fairview which is really nice ❤
Yes, Fairview is beautiful as well! Hickory Nut Gap Farm, and great coffee shops too. SO much to enjoy.
@@livinginasheville for sure!
Candler and Fairview both have great views…
Is it never sunny in NC?
Always! It’s always sunny in Philadel…ville. Just kidding. Asheville has an average of 212 sunny days yearly.

Black mountain is not 15 minutes to Asheville. Try 25 to 35 minutes.

@@livinginasheville to be fair, she said “15 to 20 minutes” which is about as accurate as reasonably possible
Fairview?
Canton Paper Mill closing later this year. Not good for the 900 people losing their jobs but the air quality may improve in the nearby environs.

Leicester. Have 8 acres there.
I bet it is beautiful. Do you have views as well?
WeaverVille is cool! They just installed 2 free fast chargers for electric cars!
Weaverville is totally groovy
