How funny. I'm a born and raised Fort Lauderdale kid. We moved to Charlotte in 2007 and went to Asheville every other weekend. I love that place. After looking for 5 years I found property in Weaverville close to the blue ridge parkway. It was a tad expensive but I jumped on it. Im a certified bee keeper and want to raise about 300 hives. Ill grow stuff to sell in Asheville as well. The Restaurant there are amazing and I want to be a part of the food. Luv it :) Maybe Ill see ya around kid.

I've lived in Asheville my whole 30 years of life, before it was trendy and congested. Summers at Belcher, When Henriette the Elephant and the carnival rides were still at the Nature center.... I still love Asheville and more than likely will never leave. However it is bitter sweet to see my little hometown grow into what it is now.

I completely understand this sentiment. It's sad to see the place you grew up in change in big ways. Some of my favorite childhood places are completely unrecognizable now - farmland turned into high rises, beaches with pine trees completely decimated. My bf's hometown has been almost completely clear cut as people from NY and NJ continue to move in. My hope is that Asheville's culture will remain intact and that the growing pains won't be too bad but time will tell. I try to support the locals as much as I can.

I just discovered Cara's videos a few weeks ago and have enjoyed all of them. Have found them very informative, down to earth casual and spot on. I am planning a visit to Asheville and am seriously considering moving there, being a single, retired teacher. Perhaps in a year when mortgage interest rates are a few points lower. I grew up in the suburbs of New York but have spent most of my adult life in southern CA where the weather is wonderful but the people not so much- as in vain, superficial, shallow, money oriented. Looking forward to exploring the Asheville environment, vibes and it's notoriously friendly, welcoming people.

Asheville once was a fantastic place to live. I have lived there all my life and can no longer afford a single rental within county limits even. Ive relocated to Henderson County, but still commute to Asheville for work. It just saddens me greatly, the gentrification, the increase in tourism, unbearable traffic has made Asheville no longer a place for locals to enjoy. This city only cares about industry, tourism, and more money to line their own pockets. I mean for Christ sake! Have you seen interstate-26? There is no reason for a reasonably small stretch of land to take over twenty years of construction to complete. However, I hope you enjoy Asheville.

If you move to Asheville come with a financial plan already, no good job industry here, cost of living is not cheap, higher than most of the entire state! A lot of homeless people and heavy drinking culture. There’s a lot of beauty but have to say a lot changed and not so much for the better except some of the development has facilitated some comforts. Come with money saved, a work plan in place, if you don’t pay state tax (like Florida) be ready to pay that now and stay grounded, it can be ungrounding at first but make sure you have your finances grounded, I think that’s very important and maybe reason why there is so much poverty here and homelessness because a lot of people come and get dreamy but the money runs out eventually.
Money doesn’t flow here as well as places like Miami (where there’s a lot of commerce and wealthy people). Then you can enjoy the nature and simpler life.

It's quite frustrating to see that local government hasn't made more of an effort to bring higher paying jobs to the area. The cost of real estate (both buying and renting) has exploded in the Asheville area and the vast majority of jobs don't pay well enough to meet the cost of living. Plus ever since Mission Hospital was sold the quality of health care has gone way downhill. That said Asheville is still beautiful. Always will be I imagine.

Eek!!😮🙁 I did notice some employers choose to pay a living wage or are in the process of moving towards doing that. ❤ Also, unlike some other US states, low-income able-bodied, non-senior adults without dependents do not get any Medicaid there sadly!!😮🙁 Except for birth control, pap smears, and STD testing.

Small mountain town, close to Sedona, AZ and huge running community here. The prices are insane though! Even worse than the Asheville area. In regards to the market crashing, it's unlikely. The crash in '08 was due to poor lending policies and also inventory was much higher then. Nowadays, mortgage lenders have stricter rules around who they loan money to and also housing inventory is historically low. This is what is keeping prices high. It's unlikely this situation will change anytime soon as the people that locked in historically low interest rates in the 3's aren't keen on moving and losing this great rate. I go into detail about this a lot in my videos. :)

There's Greenville, SC which is an hour south - it has become popular recently but is much warmer and the culture there is different. Prices there have been on the rise too, from what I understand. Charlotte is the next closest city but that's 2 hours from AVL. Asheville's surroundings are largely rural as we're amidst the mountains.

I realize opinions vary widely, so it's refreshing to hear your positive outlook of the area. Their main gripe was their opinion on a high crime rate. On the other side of the spectrum, I understand Ashville is very LGBT friendly and welcoming. If you have a minute, I'd love to hear your take on this. Very informative videos.. Thanks:)
