its not perfect.. but... i ask some basic questions to kick off my determinations. in no particular order" -who are the relevant parties, their power dynamic, their previous positions - follow the money, who is going to benefit with power and money - what are plausible underlining matters that are not being said. what is NOT being said , says more than what is being said sometimes. -the opposite position. what IF the situation was flipped and a "lie", what are those implications, and all apply al the previous questions.
I invaded iraq for Operation "Iraqi Freedom" in march 2003 and our first mission to "help the iraqi people" was to secure the Basra Oil fields. We were there for oil, not to help humans. I lost all respect for the US government at that point.
Blanket distrust of the government is frankly just a lazy way for citizens to abdicate responsibility. "If it's all rigged anyway, why should I even care? Let's play Fortnite" is the general feeling. I'm not naive to the fact that there are bad actors in politics, but there are some sincere ones. And nevertheless, they will be enacting laws that affect the population, so breeding that kind of apathy helps the bad actors implement their agenda. It may have started with distrust over Vietnam and Watergate, but Reagan turbo charged the distrust. And ever since, Republicans have been running on the idea that government doesn't work, then get elected to prove it. Cynical self-fulfilling prophecy. This most recent congress is all the proof you need.
