Volvo 740 vs Opel Ascona (1 - 0) - crashtest - (I hope they have a good insurance) Please, take a look at my RUclips channel for other great videos! / moosepower740
My parents actually owned both in the 90ies, a Volvo 760 GLE and an Opel Ascona 1.8S inherited from my grandfather. One day, it rolled away backwards with gear lever in "P" position (imagine!) and hit another parked car further down the road with approx. 25kph. Little damage done to the parked BMW, but at this speed the Ascona's REAR DOOR WAS JAMMED due to deformation!!! Rear frame rails as thin as toothpicks, door sills like cardboard... I fully believe in what I saw above, although it's basically unbelievable.
few days ago i saw what happend when skoda octavia from 2011 hit back opel omega b caravan with 100km/h (omega was rolling near 30). Skoda was wrecked, engine loose all oil, but omega... had broken rear doors and bumper. Yeah - floor in trunk was broken, but car was still drively and all passengers are ok!
And what´s happening at the right side of the movie? I think there is a wall and that´s why opel is "eaten" by Volvo. Volvo 760 is stroner than Opel but I´m sure there is a wall at th right side because Opel can´t advance.
Try reversing it. I'm pretty sure the tank that was the 760 would still fare a heck of a lot better than the Opel! Especially back in the 80's when this test was done.
Very stupid comparism. The rear end of EVERY car is always much more softer than the front. The Volvo would like very similar, if he would be in front.
Crankshaft Rotator If you know anything basic about that model VOLVO you’d realize how wrong you are. Those Volvos were like trucks compared to the Ascona.
Why not, the back of cars don't have any crumple zones, they aren't filled with an engine block, the Volvo actually crashes into a empty box made by glass and steel and filled foam rear seats, and above that, the Volvo is a strong car, the Opel isn't.
This is a fake - because 740 maintains very high speed and utilizes that the front in a car is designed to handle much higher speeds than the stern in a car. Volvo's front is designed to cope with 55 km / h Asconas stern just 40 km / h. And 740 is a much larger and 300 kg heavier car. The entire arrangement is unfair and misleading. And has been removed from its original context by a Volvo enthusiast - a lie. 1993 “The latest - and most serious - the accident occurred outside Kilafors Monday. A 30-year-old doctor in a Volvo 740 skidded with the car and collided with two oncoming cars. The doctor was killed instantly, but the drivers of the other two cars escaped unharmed. The accident is the culmination of two years of repeated accidents following the same pattern. The most talked about occurred on E22 near Horby in February last year. A Volvo 740 skidded, crashed into an oncoming car, was torn in two, and the rear end was thrown 50 meters into a field.”
You never explained how its fake. Nothing here is misleading, it's a rear end crash test between 2 different cars. ''Volvo's front is designed to cope with 55 km / h Asconas stern just 40 km / h.'' What does that even mean, you just made that up didn't you? What car can survive being hit by another car at 100 km/h? Car sides are weaker than fronts, most cars get torn in half in high speed crashes when the driver is out of control. Volvos are not tanks, but they have very effective structures that are light and still can take a lot of beating.
+Djeseret it is a typical rear end crash that happens as soon as a car stop on the highway. i have seen volvo's being rear ended like that and they have hardly a scratch and the other car is condemned. i even had a 240 that got a Opel kadett that was backing down the road at high speed and hit it straight on. the opel was 60 cm shorter and the volvo needed new rear light's. and a dent and paint was needed to fix the scratch. the dent was never fix. it was the size of a coin.
I was rear-ended by a semi traveling at around 55 miles per hour 10 years ago riding with my uncle I survived we all did and his Volvo 740 wagon the back seats were in the front seats they just put it this way if my other cousins would have came with us they probably wouldn't be alive or they would but probably have a limb amputated or dead
Dayqwan Henderson you were sitting in an Opel? i have had cars that had been hit by a open (rear to rear. the opel gay was backing down a road in a hurry) and the volvo had just small scratches (and broken rear lights) . the opel was 2 foot shorter. old kadetts and asconas is NOT safe. and if you're not wearing a seatbelt you r better to be rear ended then to be going in head first.
grapsorz no I was just saying I'm glad I was in the Volvo being rear-ended by a semi truck at 55 miles per hour even if I was in a Honda Civic I wouldn't have survived
Mercedes made equally safe cars as volvo as the w124 had same score as 740 in crash tests, only one i think that was better was a saab 9000, but it was purely because it can withstand a hit with a moose much better.

Interesting, any modern car's much safer than a 740.
It feels like there's something ahead of the opel ,which doesn't allow it to roll forwards after the hit.
yes, thats the cheating point.
The Opel got sandwiched.

How many passengers in the Opel?
After 2000,Opel was German Tank
Look at all those crumple zones.
That must be one very safe car.

I have a Volvo 940 and XC90. There are cars made to be safe. But in this video there is a wall that stops the opel.
Front of car has stronger crumple zone, this is not a fair test.
David West
But the crumple zone shouldn’t be the whole car, like the opel
OK Lets crash a Vauxhall/Opel Omega Estate into the rear of a Volvo 340 that is parked up against a wall !!!!??????
Steve Martin the volvo wont crumple the main crumple zone is a t the front
Was there anything left of the Opel?
Der Opel stand bestimmt vor einer Wand oder so, warum sieht man nicht was rechts am Rand war warum der Opel so zusammengefaltet wurde ‼️‼️😡
Hä ist doch klar oder?
What does that really mean?
You can't say a Opel Ascona is a modern car
Opel Ascona , the folding vehicle
Opel seems very safe; did exactly what it was supposed to do; die to protect the passengers.
Wait what?
*died with the passengers
Actual, Most car's today have rear crumple zones.
Those mk2 cavaliers where dangerous' really weak shell alot of folk met a bloody end in one.
car man in a side impact even a cyclist would probably tear through it.
Меняю Опель на Вольво !
r.i.p opel
What year?
Alex Gaming YT #RoadTo1000k 1 opel is **** volvo is epic
1982 ?

oh my gosh
Are car frames/bodies upgradable so i dont form to a fucking block of cheese after i hit a fucking pebble?
I think from autoblog . nl: autojunk.nl/2010/11/volvo-740-eet-opel-ascona-op
V O L V O FOR LIFE !!!

Охуенно
Ага
Зато смерть быстрая, и мучиться не придётся
BTW: Many "Saab" are also built from such sh*tty Opel parts...
Don't fuck with a Volvo.
Sweden vs Germany: Sweden makes mush of germany.

More like Sweden vs a cheap GM car
