      i know its not easy, boss, but just try paying to his steps and don't be to focused on what he's saying and you should be fine. alternatively it's only a 10 minuite video, if you watch and pause repeatedly in order to understand what he's saying, it will take a while but you'll be alright eventually.

    (1st example)
    1:21 > (remove background)
    > channels panel: select the channel which has the best contrast of bg> drag to "create new channel" icon
    (level adjustment layer: move up black box)
    (draw black on layer mask)> note: keep the layer mask
    (create new square PSD document: w/h=500/500px, resolution=150, bg=white)
    (drag the subject into the new document, resize it, rotate it)
    > layers panel: select the subject layer> "alt+delete": fill in black> note: now the image layer is filled with black, but it only shows the subject thru layer mask

    Is there some way to retain color information in brush? Lets say for example I wanna create a brush of a green leaf with a brown stem, with this method the brush doesn't make a distinction between the two and the entire leaf itself will just be a singular color brush. Does that make sense?

    How would you do for a white and red area you want? I can't get it to select the area -- it selects the whole thing. It is just white with red and a black line at the bottom.

    Hello Brendan, Im new here. I have a problem, when I go to the channels as my image has a white background when I choose channels the colors show the bck as blue, red, or green... which should I use? Or should I turn the image first into black and white? Thanks for answering back!!!

    • @BrendanWilliamsTutorials
      @BrendanWilliamsTutorials  5 лет назад +1

      You have to click on any one of the colour channels and your image will turn black and white when you click on them. Cycle through which all of them and pick the one with the best contrast. Then continue the steps as shown!

      @DalsPhotography 5 лет назад

      @@BrendanWilliamsTutorials thanks for your answer, but , precisely that's the issue, none of my photos turn into b&w, all of them show the base color of each channel .

    Nice video. I've seen brushes that have multiple images in them, and every time you use it it chooses a new image from those contained. Does anyone know how to do that?

    • @kacp6485

      I'm not sure how to change texture, but i know where you can find it. It's that window with icon of bursh and three hamburger lines, something like brush settings, and there you can for example make brush to have random angle each time of using, or random size, spacing between symbols if your making a line, you can make the shape follow the direction of your draw motion and so so on. If this function you talked about is somewhere, then it's there. I'm sure
      ruclips.net/video/3IEGGLg9FpQ/видео.html 👈🏻there
      ...and this also helped me with what i personally needed: ruclips.net/video/qvTNKSalhEw/видео.html

    Hey Brendan! Great tutorial!! Quick question...when it comes time to filling the layer with black so Photoshop can recognize it as a brush (4:10)..when I hit Option+Backspace on my Mac, it deletes the image. I've tried a bunch of different keys. What am I doing wrong?

      Maybe it has a different keyboard shortcuts on Mac... But the function isn't anything harder than "filling place with front color" so you can easily do it with brush, or with can, or you can set the keyboard shortcut as you want (i don't know english names of all the windows and functions, but yes, in photoshop is possible to find a list of all its keyboard shortcuts, and even change them yourself. If you didn't know, search for tutorial about it :)) on my Pc, shortcut to fill with front color is something like Ctrl+backspace, and filling with second color is Ctrl+alt. But when Macs have Command anywhere when Pc uses Ctrl, i would consider using Command+backspace in your place :-D

    Brenden, I have been trying to follow this video for the last three days, and finally today I just gave up, and decided to figure out how to make customer brushes on my own. Reason you are to hard to follow. As a former teacher myself let me give you some friendly advise, 1. Come from the view point that not everyone watching these videos has ever created a brush. So break the instruction a little more. 2. Talk slower, and very precise, and clear. 3. Understand that no everyone processes information at the same rate of speed.
    I hope this helps!!

    • @nonameneeded2943
      @nonameneeded2943 4 года назад

      Tbh I believed he broke it down very well and it was very clear to me. The only part I think would make it confusing to people so how he uses images as an example for a custom brush which I believe can confuse people newer to Photoshop as all the free selecting and channel masking are different skills that they would have to know

    Hey , I have a slight issue um I went ahead and tried to duplicate the contrasting channel but when I did it came out pitch black , so I then went on to the levels and moved the arrows but it just turned from solid black to grey and then white, I couldn't even see my image anymore? Any idea on what I might have done wrong. Thank you for your help

    • @BrendanWilliamsTutorials
      @BrendanWilliamsTutorials  6 лет назад

      make sure you havent done any adjustment to the layer before going into channels, make sure you are duplicating only one of the channel colours and make sure you drag it down to the new layer icon to duplicate it. Its likely a minor misstep somewhere along the way causing the issue. Hopefully that helps!

    • @zamainabbasi674
      @zamainabbasi674 6 лет назад

      Brendan Williams Thank you!! You were right my layer wasn't right but alas another problem I'm so sorry in advance but I tired to colour my foreground black and again it made my whole image pitch black therefore my brush didn't work properly. I was wondering is it because my image was a pastel coloured one that it happened? Cause the image you use is fairly dark where as mine has a peachish background and a gold leaf that I'm trying to turn into a brush again I apologise for the constant questions 😩

    • @BrendanWilliamsTutorials
      @BrendanWilliamsTutorials  6 лет назад

      there has to be a significant contrast between what you want to create a brush from versus the background; otherwise photoshop will have a hard time trying to decipher. If you are filling your whole image with black its because you have the actual image selected in the layer panel. If you click on the layer mask it will only effect the layer mask when you fill with black. hope that helps.

    I know its an old video, but you say use CMD and ALT - I assume you are on mac so you should be saying option. I know its a small oversight but just thought I would comment.

    • @BrendanWilliamsTutorials
      @BrendanWilliamsTutorials  3 года назад

      Yes, my keyboard says alt/option on the option key so I got in that habit back then. I no longer say that in new videos and give mac/pc specific shortcuts 👍🏻
