It's 2021 now, and this video still rocks! So glad I randomly ran into it. I've been making my own brushes for about the last six months, but haven't quite gotten the hang of texturizing them. Your video post has rocketed me to a completely new level. Thank you so much for the time and effort in the making of the upload and sharing your knowledge! (... And, sharing the awesome assets too.)
So amazing to hear that people are still finding this video and, more importantly, finding it so helpful still! Thanks so much for your kind comment!! Glad Bobby's tips for texturizing your brushes is taking your artwork to the next level :) Thanks for watching! ~S
Nicely demonstrated, Bobby. I did a twitch stream the other night teaching a few people about custom brushes. Yours is much more in depth. Good job, man.
Might I suggest creating a pattern that has the impasto going with the direction of the stroke and then rotating the brush according to what direction you are "painting". Otherwise it looks cool but it basically looks like you are painting a mask that is uncovering a seamless texture of impasto :D Im shocked that photoshop doesnt have some sort of global orientation to basically do it for you :D
Thank you for the great tutorial video, Bobby. I got an issue. I created my custom brush, and it was great watercolor texture. But once i used it in a large size (1500pt), it took longer time to paint. The stroke got slower. I wonder how can i fix it? How can i paint faster? Thank you.
I know that I'm 3 years late to the party, but if you're still searching for an answer, I may have one! If you raise the spacing to a higher number, the brush will paint faster. Basically, like... NEVER put it at 1%. It will paint SO slow. I've had some brushes almost crash photoshop lol. If it's running really slow, raising the spacing as high as you can (while still achieving your desired brush shape). Sometimes, though, even then it will lag. I think it sort of depends on how much RAM you have and how old your computer is. Even the version of Photoshop might contribute.
Me: "Eh I already know how to make custom brushes but I'll watch the vid anyways, even though it's likely stuff I already know." *still learns something new* Me: "Well....fuck me!"
I know im asking randomly but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@@musarhett2874 Yeah... Because asking strangers on the internet how to get into an Instagram account doesn't imply you're just hacking someone at all! In fact, I definitely haven't seen this reply to top/pinned comments on 50% of popular videos I've seen!
When i create and save a brush i don't know where it's saved. This pains me every time i change some parameter of that brush it's permanent. i can't go back to original settings. and if i remove the brush from Photoshop brush tool, i never find the brush again cause i don't know where it's saved in my pc.
No, smoothing makes your strokes smoother. So if you try to draw a zigzag, it will become more like a wave. Flow is your control for how much paint is being put onto the page.
Help please. I tried doing this but my texture doesn't even apply! The brush just paints a flat color, the texture is not being applied! Please help me!

After going through 5 previous videos and not getting the information I needed, I watched your video (#6) and got all the information I needed to get the ball running. Thank you. Hit me up on Instagram if your interested @backyardgraphics
It took me 2 hours to understand where that freakin' spacing comes from, It took you nearly 10 seconds to show me....
Instant love. Thank you ......
Oh that's wonderful that this video helped you understand! :D ~ Ashley

When you squash "HORIZONTALLY" the roundness of the brush it looks like you can paint savannah tropical trees! Think about it actually works!

Is "Smoothing" same as "flow"?
No, smoothing makes your strokes smoother. So if you try to draw a zigzag, it will become more like a wave. Flow is your control for how much paint is being put onto the page.
