      Don't stick the word McLaren to this, it's just Honda, it's always been Honda's problem. Both in F1 and in Indy car. Problems are identical, once the engine is pushed hard it blows up

      Barney Ward is not enough to drive well.He only knows drive ,but he doesn't know how to.win.In fact he has left Ferrari,then Ferrari has started to win with Vettel,which is a winning driver.Pheraps is good for Indy championships,where is required only a good feet and a lot of ball.But this doesn' make a driver a winning one.Excuse for little english

    • @barneyward6448
      @barneyward6448 7 лет назад +39

      Nicola Checcacci Well you do realise that he's a 2-time F1 champion, has outdriven some of the worst cars he's ever drove in the past few years, led laps today and was a big threat for the win. I'm not being deluded, because he is a true world class driver. It's up to him what he wants to do next year but I'd like to see him run full-time in IndyCar as he'll have more fun over there than he is right now. Mclaren and Honda can't get their shit together and the team as a whole is paying the price for it.

    • @nicolacheccacci3769
      @nicolacheccacci3769 7 лет назад +1

      Barney Ward in the world of races there are some eras...Mclaren has won a lot.For many years has donated in F1,even with Alonso.But if you remember Senna,Prost , Schumacher,in a little part Mansell, and now Vettel you'll remember that they was strong with all the cars they drove.These drive are able to improve the cars.Thing that Alonso doesn't made in Ferrari,even with the big resources the team owned and he doesn't made even in Mclaren .I repeat perhaps in Indy he will found a better ground for his skills..

    Not much of an Alonso fan but my god I feel sorry for him. Crap car and engine in F1, does well in his rookie debut at Indy 500 only to be let down by an engine failure - a Honda engine at that. Ok, it's not the same motor in F1 but it's still a Honda motor.

      dani Leuenberger Yeah i agree re WW2. The US refused to get involved initially, assumed the UK would fall over and ignored multiple requests for assistance from Churchill, saw that we were holding up and only then got involved. The US's main fight was with a tiny island the other side of the planet. They took tech from Germans, used it to slaughter entire towns on that island and then claimed a moral victory. The overwhelming sense of self importance has stuck ever since.

    Amazing man and driver. At Indy we expect the best and we pay to see the best and this guy delivered. Alonso could have done Monaco and earned some of his millions by running mid pack with a uncompetitive mount but the guy puts his reputation completely on the line by doing something he had never remotely done in a race car. That's confidence and guts! He already had legions of indycar fans before Indy, now he has millions. Here in Indycar Nation we want ALONSO!

      Phil McCracken I think not enough feedback because they don't have a customer engine so they do not have enough information of how the engine is running look at Merc and Ferrari they have costumer engines so they can get feedback and improve there own engine

    • @GMHSVE
      @GMHSVE 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, but they only have themselves to blame for that. They could have rectified that problem already.

    • @GMHSVE
      @GMHSVE 7 лет назад +3

      Those are just excuses. They were arrogant. Living on past glories, just like their road cars (drove a late 90s civic today, that is such a well done car).
      They didn't recruit from outside, it's all guys from inside Honda. They didn't get other teams, they thought they didn't need them. They've resisted getting help from McLaren, they're too proud.They had plenty of time for the first engine, but they left it all to the last minute.
      Face it, Hondas return has been a massive failure. It reflects poorly on the entire company.

    Fernando was in contention up until his engine blew. He was charging from 6th position. He did so well because he worked hard, listened, and continued to learn. Breyzipp Karma is a bitch. He couldn't get his way at McLaren in 2007 so he leaked the Spygate scandal. Then he was at Renault when the infamous cheat Flavio Britatore fixed a win for him at Singapore in 2008. Then he tried his politics at Ferrari and that only worked as long as they were competitive. Eventually the team had enough of him and signed Vettel. Now he has dragged McLaren down with him since it was Honda who insisted on signing him and agreed to pay his salary.

    • @renosalujoe9775
      @renosalujoe9775 7 лет назад +3

      McLaren rooted for Hamilton and didn't do anything for Alonso. Alonso had enough of it. So he left McLaren. At Ferrari... Ferrari did support Alonso more than Felipe. That's why Felipe was uncompetitive. He left Ferrari, because of that. In 2010 and 2012, Alonso had competitive car, but was unlucky. Ferrari really couldn't build the car in the other years. When Alonso joined McLaren again, he thought that Honda would be competitive. But no, Honda isn't putting much effort on the engine, so the engine keeps failing.

    • @maritta01
      @maritta01 7 лет назад +3

      TheIronDuke W. nonsense. What politics did he tried at Ferrari? they didn't have the best car those years and even so he almost won two titles for them. And it was Alonso who left Ferrari, that's the reason why they were upset with him afterwards, with sarcastic comments about him. And how was Alonso at fault in Renault? what kind of evidence do you have to blame him? and MLaren lost the 2007 championship because they decided to support their golden boy Hamilton the rooky, they couldn't control the situation, they coudn't control their drivers, and I include Hamilton who was demanding a lot from the team, that situation leads them to the ridiculous point of telling everybody they were racing against their own driver Alonso. Pathetic behaviour that lead them to lose the title.

      @@aidankeogh5350 Not really. Toyota has attempted to win at LeMans for 2 decades and their win with Alonso was their first. They came very close in 2016 but the car gave up at the final hour. Also, Alonso didn't just cruise to victory. The guy worked on it. After the safety car, Fernando pulled off some spectacular overtaking. Then the no. 8 was hit with a 2+ minutes penalty because of Buemi. Alonso's night driving whittled that gap down to seconds so Nakajima could overtake Lopez for P1.

    I was bummed to see Alonso's engine fail. He drove a great race. But I was happy to see Sato win. That was exciting. He almost won it a few years back too.

    Incredible driving by this guy! To do that as a rookie is one for the record books. I have to say that as an F1 driver he was at a disadvantage against these veterans. As the race wears on, and they start adjusting things, the more acclimated drivers are more adept at telling the crew what they need. I could tell he liked the faster car. He made that race for me, I thought he might win.

    Would have interesting to see if he would have won the race, he and Rossi were very unfortunate to drop back after the pitstops. But one thing is for sure he fought every single lap. Was a pleasure and a treat to watch Fernando fight at the front again.

    couldn't believe my eyes, just as alonso was getting back to the front runners. I'm now an indy car fan, what a fun race! the restarts were so interesting. Was great to see Sato, just like in the the older F1 days. Can any real Indy car fan tell me, is Montoya good these days? I'm not a fan of him to be honest, just knew he was a real hot head in F1

    The radio communication and camera work at 1:49 what is going on there? We don't have that in formula 1.

    • @solarino9603
      @solarino9603 7 лет назад +7

      They have swivelling cameras in most us motorsports, its a lot more spectator oriented than european sports in general. The radio was a spotter, which happens only really on oval circuits i think as vision in indy cars is poor and it would drive you crazy with a spotter on an f1 track

    • @SniperTeamTango
      @SniperTeamTango 7 лет назад

      so does the spotter control that camera?

    What a drive, he's clearly lost nothing in spite of not having won an F1 race since 2013. If this performance in Indy doesn't make people sit up and take notice, least of all McLaren and Honda, I don't know what will...

    Unfortunately,i didnt watch the entire race.I only started watching in the last 40 laps.I saw fernando could win and said ok,here we are and then BOOM.Im a huge McLaren and F1 fan but honestly,i dont know what to say about honda.I wanted to watch the race at indycar's youtube channel when its uploaded but now that i know how it ended,i dont know if its worth it.I noticed that the commentators praised alonso's racing skills and said he had a great race.Would be nice to get a viewing of american fans thoughts about this years indy and fernando's race.Hope he 'll come back next year,cause if he does,it will bring even more eyeballs on indy500,which is great i have to say as a european f1 and wrc fan that race atmosphere is fantastic.

    I thought it was cool how the crowd gave him an ovation. Just like when Mansell came over I remember from day one he was greeted with open arms. Had a couple of TV commercials for sponsors (Not that he needed the money} Wouldn't it be good if Europe learned these things, instead of hate and hoping for failure. Yeah, I lived in Sweden in 1992 and remember Andretti very well. From day one it was nothing but Andretti failing or hoping for failure.. But the difference in Europe it is always negative. It was pretty good when Micheal came back to Indy with another team and smoked Mansell in the 1st race in Australia.

    Frankly, I fully expect Fernando Alonso to be an indycar driver by 2018 or 2019 - whenever he can break free of McLaren.
    He definitly proved that he can be competitive in indycar racing, he can move those vastly different cars quickly. So, finding a cockpit would not likely be difficult, I think.

    He is one extremely talented driver, a true racer. The commentators when it happened saying he has had to do alot F1 drivers don't have to do publicity wise etc. Not sure they realise just how much publicity an F1 driver has to do, for them it also never stops lol.
