- The coil for the choke is broken so I've decided to swap to a manual choke. In this video I use my dad's old leatherman type tool to take the carb apart and "upgrade" to a manual choke. I'm not sure about the gasket that was suppose to go on the original, there's also a small plate that I'm not sure if it's suppose to go back in or not. I'm waiting for confirmation bc who want's to take this apart and redo it all again?
As an update, I did get the smog parts out from under the carb. wound up having to cut the pipe instead of taking it off bc I honestly got tired of dealing with it. Lol. Waiting on covers for all the ports that will now be issues lol.
I think I'll be keeping an eye out for cheap carbs that I can practice rebuilding and make videos of. If you know of a place to get them drop it down in the comments!
Sweet. Thanks. That looks a little easier than the Holley conversion kit
Perfect. Great explanation of a simple install.
This helped so much I’ve been messing with it and couldn’t figure it out because the instructions were unclear
Thank you much for this video, as i needed it. Im not crazy about the noisy music, but you did a very good job making this simple and easy. Again thanks. I just bouogth a new carb for my 83 F150 six, and i didnt know exactly how to change the choke, ans this one is different from the old carb.
What conversion kit is this?
Thanks.
What are the advantages of a manual choke? I have the yfa on my ford f100 with the wired choke, (automatic truck)that I had to tie wire around to the throttle to keep it from closing😂.
I have had many F series 67-79 100/150/250. You have complete control of the choke with manual. The workings inside the automatic choke can be flaky. Go with manual.
A manual choke is controlled by a lever on the side of the carb. A lever or knob inside the vehicle is then attached by a cable. This requires a person inside the car to slowly open the choke by hand.
An automatic choke uses a metal spring to open and close the choke plate. The spring is wound in a housing and attached to the choke linkage on one end. As the engine warms up, it warms the metal spring. As the spring warms, it expands, rotates, and opens the choke plate.
Where did you get that conversion cap for the yfa?
U can get them at pretty much any auto parts stores they sell a kit for the conversion
