1979 Ford F-100 Manual Choke Conversion

The coil for the choke is broken so I've decided to swap to a manual choke. In this video I use my dad's old leatherman type tool to take the carb apart and "upgrade" to a manual choke. I'm not sure about the gasket that was suppose to go on the original, there's also a small plate that I'm not sure if it's suppose to go back in or not. I'm waiting for confirmation bc who want's to take this ap...

This is the breakdown and rebuild of the carb off my grandfathers 79 Ford F-100 pickup truck. It was left sitting in the woods for a while and I've decided to try to fix it up. This is my second carb rebuild so go easy on me. This truck hauled a whole lotta hay back in its day lol. Probably a whole lot more than it was every suppose to carry. I miss those days. I did go back and fix a few thing...

This is about as far as I could go. I need a few more hands and a whole Lotta rope! This car is a prime example of how time and nature do NOT care about anything. This once beautiful car is sitting in the dirt. Fingers crossed one day she'll ride again!

It's been slow and steady wins the race on this! I'll be glad to have it all down and sorted out! These last few trees are going to be scary! Right over the vehicles!

Finally got the tree taken down! The video does not do this wood justice AT ALL! Maybe one day I can make some projects out of that too!

Just cutting more limbs down. Seemed easier since idk what I'm doing. Just took it apart in small sections lol! It got the job done!

I'm so glad I didn't leave my phone on there to record that cut! That frame was waht I had my cell phone hanging on in the time lapse video. 😂😂😂

Who knew plum wood was so beautiful! This tree had some kind of fungus and needed taken down. I'm no expert but I don't cover my face bc I'm afraid of the big parts, it's all those whippy limbs that scare me!

Got the truck moved and some more cleanup done! It's slow moving but we'll get them moved! As you can tell the tire on the truck wasn't happy about moving.

Woo! Got that thing out and gone now! Everyone keep your fingers crossed that it was the only one! That being said, black snakes keep all the bad snakes away but they need to stay away from me! Fingers crossed that snek kept all the mice from rewiring the whole truck!

Sadly we didn't get video of the truck being moved. We were a little short handed. This feller didn't seem to have any extra hands to offer. He could have noodled himself around the camera and joined the crew as camera snake!

U can get them at pretty much any auto parts stores they sell a kit for the conversion

Thank you much for this video, as i needed it. Im not crazy about the noisy music, but you did a very good job making this simple and easy. Again thanks. I just bouogth a new carb for my 83 F150 six, and i didnt know exactly how to change the choke, ans this one is different from the old carb.
What are the advantages of a manual choke? I have the yfa on my ford f100 with the wired choke, (automatic truck)that I had to tie wire around to the throttle to keep it from closing😂.
I have had many F series 67-79 100/150/250. You have complete control of the choke with manual. The workings inside the automatic choke can be flaky. Go with manual. A manual choke is controlled by a lever on the side of the carb. A lever or knob inside the vehicle is then attached by a cable. This requires a person inside the car to slowly open the choke by hand. An automatic choke uses a metal spring to open and close the choke plate. The spring is wound in a housing and attached to the choke linkage on one end. As the engine warms up, it warms the metal spring. As the spring warms, it expands, rotates, and opens the choke plate.
🤝😀I have a 79 ford with the yfa carburetor 50-501-2. Question? What did you use to clean the parts? Some say pinesol can do it.? Also how do you go by setting the carburetor once in place in the truck?🧐
