My family and I were there on Governors Island that night to listen to that wonderful music! We had the privilege of living there for 12 years. We were late in arriving for the rehearsal show the night before the 4th of July and were hurrying to our seats when suddenly a man grabbed my arm and told me I had to wait right there because he was about to conduct the orchestra! It was then that I realised that John Williams was holding my arm!😲 He then asked me if I knew where my seat was. I said I sure do and he replied... I'll let you get to it really quickly! Go right now! They're waiting for me to start! I thanked him and almost ran to my seat. He gave a nod in my direction, picked up his baton and began to conduct Liberty Fanfare! I will never forgot that night...😊
I attended the performance the following night July 4, 1986, held in Liberty State Park. We also happened to be walking in as this music began to start and the colors were raised. Awesome concert, wonderful memories. ruclips.net/video/LOmApB7q-Fg/видео.html
@@robertpolanco1973What I mean is that you’re a petty fellow who is looking for a fight against a fellow music lover when you could celebrate the music together.
This is a good piece for a graduation, when the seniors walk out of their graduation, as GRADUATES!!! I'm graduating from Community College in a couple of weeks! On to University life!! Bittersweet, I'm crying!!
I seriously remember when I first listened to this music in my music class ever since I was in the 5th grade! Before we were gonna listen to this music, my music teacher would tell all of us about John Williams, and how he was the only legendary composer alive in the 20th/21st century, and she also said that he conducted music for Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and E.T. It was really such a wonderful experience. ❤️
Well, I am here to prop up your comment, defending it against the other replies to your comments. John Williams really stands apart for his ability to bring a whole extra dimension to every movie score commissioned by Spielberg. The 600 pound gorilla is "Schindler's List" -- I don't know if anyone else could have brought the poignancy of that movie into being. And one of my favorites is the final 10 minutes of the movie "Always." Not a great movie but that ending, very Hollywood but fantastically so.
The only comment that I think is right is the last one which is not me but I agree that John Williams is really creative and I like that he made music for movies so yeah and all the other comments are wrong no offense :3
@@soso-zz9qf This is the craziest comment on music I have read. He has been nominated for an Academy Award over 50 times! I mean even Walt Disney is just 7 more than John Williams! He is arguably the top of composers in his lifetime. And really, at the time this guy's teacher said that, many other composers may not have really been around that much yet. After all, John Williams was ahead of his time, and changed the face of movie music!
Jonathan Williams wrote this arrangement for the Boston POPS Independence Day concert and fireworks display at the Boston Esplanade. When he become their conductor replacing the late great Arthur Fielder after he died unexpectedly.
This is both stirring, spectacular and moving, with the various sections.... It remains my fav, over the Olympics theme, which is fab.. but he manages to stir our patriotism in profound ways with Libety Fanfare!
In my world, this piece would accompany the Flight of Liberty, which is a Vekoma STC wrapping around a replica of the Statue of Liberty. It would play throughout the queue and the station, which would be themed after the immigration area on Ellis Island.
One "thumb down"??? Really? This is a magnificent piece, and takes it's place in the Pantheon of Great American Marches and Patriotic Songs. Alongside such pieces such as America the Beautiful, Stars and Stripes Forever, God Bless America, Washington Post March, Hail to the Chief, Columbia the Gem of the Ocean, American Patrol, the Star-Spangled Banner, Hail Columbia, Yankee Doodle, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Anchors Aweigh, This is My Country, Seventy-Six Trombones, El Capitan, National Emblem March, On the Mall, US Field Artillery March (The Caisson Song), Grand Old Flag, The Marines Hymn, Up the Street, God Bless the USA, Semper Fidelis, Battle Hymn of Freedom, America (My Country Tis of Thee), Hands Across the Sea, King Cotton, The Thunderer, Semper Paratus, Yankee Doodle Boy, US Air Force Song (Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder), Liberty Bell March, Our Director, Fairest of the Fair, National Handicap March, The House I Live In, Under the Double Eagle, Invincible Eagle March, For Lincoln and Liberty, and many more. Thanks for posting!
You forgot Hugo Friedhofer's Oscar®-winning score for "The Best Years of Our Lives" and Aaron Copland's for "The Heiress", both directed by William Wyler.
John Williams is, without question, one of the Titans in symphonic music composition. I wish I could have had him for Written Music Theory. I probably would have done much better than I did. 😏
You don't have to be American to respond to this piece, anymore than you need to be Russian to respond to Tchaikovsky's March Slave or Finnish to respond to Sibelius's Finlandia
I know the "credits" for the video say Keith Lockhart, but the auto-generated content is often incorrect, to me this does not sound like Lockhart at all, much more John Williams. I think the uploader added "John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra " in the video's description which is likely correct.
I’m 45 and have been obsessed with John Williams music for most of my life. He truly is a national treasure!
This is the first time I'm hearing this piece of music, OMG If this doesn't lift your spirits, I don't know what will.
It's an old friend. So glad you found it.
You'll be hearing a lot of this the coming few years to JULY 4TH, 2026
my sister was one of the herald trumpets at the original premiere!!
Really??????
As was I.
That is awesome. She must be an amazing trumpet player.

@fantasy_ladie - This is an INSTRUMENTAL SCORE. NOT A SONG.

Considering the piece that is played at every graduation commencement here in America is written by a BRITISH composer!

that teacher sounds super pretentious and not to sound pretentious myself but John Williams is incredibly overrated
I’d just say - what about Ennio Morricone or Hans Zimmer? And many others? John Williams is great, but I dont agree with your teacher

Stirring and stunning fanfare! I get chills on every 4th...some fabulous orchestra plays this!

I got to play this in a brass choir for school and I enjoyed playing it so much. It was definitely a challenge such an amazing piece.
Simply a genius.
This piece exemplifies Gustav Holst's influence on John Williams.

Although Sousa's band often played Under the Double Eagle, it's actually an Austrian patriotic march!
