Hi Diane, how do you turn the fabric and make the knots, if you want the flowers insteadt of bubbles on the right side of the fabric? Love your tutorials... Kirsten utzon
Hey Diane! How do we know that how much fabric should we take for smoking to make bodice or dress. I mean smoking need some extra fabric but how much. How I'm gonna decide the measurement of fabric.
Hi Pooja, the best way is to make a little sample, cut a square let's say 20 cm X 20 cm, do the smocking than measure after. let's say after it's 9.5 cm it means you are missing 52,5% so you take the size of the piece X 52,5 % It should be about 2 for 1 Diane
Diane Deziel Thank you so much Diane. I never get tired of appreciating you. You are awesome. Your tutorials for pattern making and sewing are best on youtube. I would recommend every beginner to watch your videos cause you explain simple and perfect. Wow.
I think if you do the little sample that is 21 X 21 and you measure it after it should give you a %, My sample style #1 was 14 X 14 and now it's 8 X 11 so Iwould need 43% more in width and 21% more in height. (8/14)X100 and (11/14) X100 is what you have left. Diane
Welcome back Diana, I've missed your videos! I hope there is more to come.

Kirsten Utzon You might try with dots indication instead of lines. I will include this in my next video on the smokes next week...
Very nice technique. Can it be used and apply on dresses designs and how can I use it?
smocking with a short o or a sound as in talk. You do a great job, just a friendly hint

If we were to do this on a peuce of clothing how would we calculate how much fabric we will need?
