We’re picking who is going to lead our country based on how cheap it is to get a TV spot for them. This, allegedly, is a democracy.
Crazy but true. Had we publicly funded elections, free from bribery...oh well. It's why we currently live in a dictatorship.
I agree. It’s dumb. The money will come. Losing an election to save 92 million dollars is nonsensical.
The candidate who befriends the most billionaires wins the election. Oligarchy lol.
Trump will win in a LANDSLIDE Anyhow....97% of Americans REJECT The Homosexual Agenda....of the Democrats...
that's how bad trump is. A cheap pick could get a win
4 months!?!? They’ve had 4 years to get a new candidate. American school taught me all my life that you don’t procrastinate. Why do these old white guys get that privilege? I’m scorned if I do.
Good point. Plus, there was public evidence of Biden's decline 4 years ago. This was known.
We should stick with Biden.
Everyone calling for Biden to step down is doing the work of the Trump campaign.
You are guaranteeing a Trump win which is the end of America.
Biden seems like the kind of guy to tell you when you should throw in the towel, and the kinda of guy who's too narcissistic to take his own good advice.
Because you're the soyjak worker and they are the chad non-working bourgeois. Know your place, smh my head. (sarcasm in case you didn't get it.)
Oh yes only old white guys procrastinate and get away with it....always the race and gender card with you people...
If they threw Bernie in they would need no MONEY just a debate.
Bernie is too old. I love the guy but it just is what it is.
Bernie won't play ball with the Zionists.
Bernie Sanders is older than Joe Biden
@@C0LD_P1ZZABernie is old but completely lucid, sharp as a tack and arguably the most popular politician among the people. The problem is the establishment hates him because he is popular and represents the will of the people.
@@tofuComputer Without taking into account all the problems with switching candidates that they went over in the video, I think the optics of switching a candidate who by most people is deemed to old, even though that may not be the main reason to get him to step down, to a candidate who is even older is not really a viable choice.
Don't get me wrong, I love Bernie and I wish he would have gotten his chance in 2016 or 2020, but I think even he would say that isn't a viable alternative. He is just too old at this point to be able to get away from the problem that we are dealing with right now.
I say throw Gavin Newsom in there or Dems are toast. Not that he is the most progressive or anything. But as a black person seeing this DEI craze the Republicans have been waffling on about for the past few years, I think the country still has a strong silent majority that is incredibly racist and they need a wonder bread white dude with a nice smile and bland presentation to win them over. Newsom at least has some knowledge on electronic voting (check his book Citizenville) and supports high speed rail and expansion of medical coverage. He is also aggressive against Republicans and shat on Ron deSantis in debate. I say throw him in the ring with Trump and put him on the ticket with Kamala. He's also tall (6'3") and all American elections since the TV was invented have shown that the candidate considered better looking has always won.
Nope. Better looking candidate has not always won. Check it out. Maybe half the time.
All Trump has to do to Beat Newsome-- is to Say..
"We don't want to US to turn into California.."
And It's Over.
"Kamala is the only one with access to that money"
Tell me it's over without telling me it's over. Pick a new, young, dynamic presence. The country will respond to it. It's what this country is DYING For. Don't fall back on whose turn it is. Hubert Humphrey. That's all I have to say.
I think that is a lie to force the public to accept Kamala. Kamala is the current VP, but she isn't part of the new campaign ticket yet. Basically Biden could select anyone as his VP choice and then resign as the candidate. Then the VP candidate might have direct access to the money but not Kamala.
Kudos, Mr dovma, for knowing the name, Hubert Humphrey, a name reference which I expect very few Democrats to recognize! You must be older than 25!
The biggest issue with bypassing Harris is that black voters are the Dem base, and black voters will be fucking pissed if the black VP is passed over for some random white person.
And you know that how? There were Bernie trump voters in 2016. The fuck you know about this absurd country outside of your internet circles?
But SHE'S BLACK!!
Jon Stewart would have my vote.
John Oliver for chief of staff.
Chuckle
He could run in the future. But now? He’s not a stupid man.
I'd be interested in a runoff between Jon and Sam. It'd be an election to actually look forward too.
Ya, mine too, and not because I agree with him on everything or even think he's anything other than a liberal with better rhetoric, but becasue I think he'd actually act and not just sit on his hands and capitulate to the establishment while right wing populism steamrolls him completely.
Biden needs to go, if he stepped back now he could leave with respect and save the country. A stronger person would have absolutely destroyed Trump in that debate, it's that simple.
When Biden stays on the ballot, you'll have a big smile on your face when you *vote for him* . That's why he won't go.
@@QuilishWammy I won't be voting I'm afraid because I'm British, but with Putin so close to us and Trump so close to power, a man who can't accept his own limitations is absolutely terrifying 😱

@@QuilishWammyIf he stays on the ballot, it means the only party I thought would listen me - won’t. So I’ll stay home and take my chances under King Donald.
Tulsi Gabbard torching Kamala in that one debate is the last thing I remember of Kamala. Really an underwhelming replacement
Idk. I think Kamala would be like DeSantis was to the right. He seemed like he really had a shot on paper, then he opened his mouth. She just has no charisma, and she’s an awful speaker 90% of the time. Biden is a terrible speaker as well but even in this state he has charisma. If they run her I really hope I’m proven wrong.
I think it could work and I don't think it has that much to do with her being a good speaker or charismatic or not. The fact is she solves the most pressing issues: she is lucid and is by all accounts able to handle the work of a president. She is a woman which is a big plus for many liberals and especially this year when abortion is a big issue and she is also a person of color which is also a plus. She also isn't as establishment connected as some previous candidates, looking at you Hillary. I also think most people understand this is such an important election that they are willing to elect someone even if they aren't likable or a bit cringe.
That said there are certainly risks, mainly that some of the qualities that are helpful might work against her on the other side. There could be a reaction to her being the candidate from some republicans that are racist and misogynistic that could lead to higher voter turnout on the republican side.
So who knows... I think we shouldn't discount Kamala because she is "cringe", even if she is she has a big head start as opposed to other possible candidates.
Nobody seems to like her at all…
She was chosen as VP because of her gender and skin color.
She isn't a good orator, and on her own, she isn't good at thinking on her feet. However, she is upright and can speak with volume in her voice and theoretically does not slur her words together. Her best asset is that nobody would have seen this coming and nobody would be ready for it. She is a wild card and doesn't have the negative baggage that many politicians have attached
and let's be completely frank. She won no primaries, she was "appointed" by Biden, not to balance his electoral chances, but for "reasons". The Republicans will jump on this issue like a dog on a bone. Trump will win but this time it won't be by a few thousand votes in 3-4 states.
“There could be worse” is not a great sales pitch.
Definitely not to undecided voters, lol.
I don't think there is an perfect choice here. Unless you want to try again after Trump wins.
Every election in my life, and I'm in my 40s
here is where i disagree with both of them of her being the best choice. "she is a cop." full stop. and don't @ me thinking i am saying i am not voting for them. just saying. she aint my favorite pick.

Kamala Harris is Not Like Us
Y’all seem pretty out of touch about this. As a Wisconsin voter, I feel like I have a decent grasp on centrist swing voters. Kamala would not win, even over Biden. She amplifies Clinton’s unlikable characteristics. Trump is charismatic and casual, which, unfortunately, matters a lot to voters. Biden struggles to relay a strong message, and Kamala is no different, even if she’s not demented. Misogyny would plague Kamala just as it did Clinton, and her unlikable traits would be amplified with a misogynistic undertone. There is a very obvious reason why no media is floating the idea of replacing Biden with Kamala. This is one of the rare times where the pundits are actually in touch with swing state voters sentiments.
I get Emma’s point about the implication of never running a woman candidate, but is this the time to worry about that? Why are we putting up uniquely unlikable candidates like Kamala and Clinton? It blows my mind. There are plenty of women candidates who aren’t so robotic and establishment.
I used to watch this show a lot, and Emma (and before her, Jamie, plus frequent guest Nomiki) have always seemed to have somewhat naive, somewhat hypocritical blind spots when it comes to anything involving women and what they think people _should_ feel about them. It's very much an "It's HER turn" projection of entitlement that turns people off, dismisses their personal opinions, and doesn't represent reality. It's a proven losing strategy.
@@dillchives Right, maybe misogyny plays some part but Kamala's unlikable personality goes far beyond just her being a woman. Her unlikeability is something akin to DeSantis. No one would be excited to turn out and vote for Kamala. People might come out to vote against Trump, but that is already what we're doing when voting for Biden. We need centrists motivated to actually come out for a candidate they actively want. I could see Whitmer being a good choice to pull in those Midwest swing states.
Kamala is not an "Standard Democrat" she is a "word salad" 😊..........

Johnson collapsed because of his own party, and Truss and Sunak were just atrocious in every single way

It's literally been 4 years of millions of dollars going to both Trump & Biden/Harris. To give up that War Chest would put the dems so far behind. Sure, certain candidates can win without it (Bernie, AOC, Newsom, Whitmer, Pritzker) or could mostly self-finance a campaign (Bloomberg or Pritzker, again), but it would involve a herculean effort on all fronts (plus, most of them are not really being considered as candidates by the party, regardless of actual odds of winning). Harris is a great choice if you want to lose to Trump. There won't be much time to campaign, so you need someone that is capable of campaigning well. Kamala missed that bus.
@@paulpeterson4216 why do you think she would lose?
@@vladseva2327 She managed to be below 5% in her home state in the primary. She is possibly the worst campaigner in the Democratic Party. People have already formed their opinions of her, and they are not good. Rightly or wrongly, she is seen as weak, incompetent, unprincipled and disrespected by her peers. She may, indeed probably will, do worse than Biden would.
At least she'd stand a better chance of winning than Biden.
nope. Her numbers are good against Trump. She cancels him out.
She can steal the election like Biden did in 2020. No worries man. Whichever democrat wins in November they'll continue giving money to the Ukraine and Israel while ignoring our growing homeless problem in the US.
Hunter?
@@Iamrightyouarewrong Absurd.
Yes. I am writing him in no matter who replaces Joe.
@@synupps877 why.
@@Iamrightyouarewrong Hunter recently became a felon, and he's not a politician. There is no reason to vote for him and plenty of reasons not to vote for him. It's absurd to even suggest it.
I don't care how little time there is and how much money will be needed to run for the candidates, the best option is still to let it play out. In other words, let whatever candidates there are to go to town and see what happens. I just think if you lock yourself down on Harris right away, you will be forcing yourself into a corner when many already think she is far from being the best candidate and that is me being kind. Don't do it.
Kamala or Trump the hilarity will continue. US politics is a circus
Kamala Harris?
Good luck with that
Kamala is black when it’s convenient, Asian when it’s convenient, Indian when it’s convenient, Caribbean when it’s convenient, and Jamaican when it’s convenient.
Okay good?
@@Blakbox92 Calling her a “black woman” is annoying. She’s whatever the audience is or the Democrats need her to be. Since she can’t be white or a man, that’s her husband’s role.
This conversation about the money should prove to anyone still asleep that this isn't a democracy.
Amazing the power of the media. Nobody was discussing getting rid of Biden, no matter how bad he looked or sounded. Only FOX viewers seemed to even be aware of it. Now, the other networks are saying it, so, lo and behold, EVERYBODY is talking about Biden dropping out.
I want to discuss why a convictive felon should be told over and over that he should drop out.
One of Hillary's biggest issues was the sense of entitlement she gave off. Without saying a word, everything she did screamed "it's my turn"... it was a huge turn-off.
And how does that help right now?
No democrats have contested Biden 😮 in the Primary. why is that ?
RFK tried
Because party establishment and leadership made clear that he is not to be opposed.
None of them would have won, that's why- and that'd also the reason why Biden dropping out with 4 MONTHS LEFT is absolutely absurd and just ASKING for an even more weak candidate not lose down the ballot. Its the stupidest thing. When you have Emma agreeing with Ana from TYT, it's obviously a terrible idea.
There is NO ONE capable of winning swing states the way that Biden had proven he can. Everyone is in a huge panic about a terrible debate, but according to the guy who has predicted the last 9/10 elections (2000 aside) debates have almost no impact on election night.
The incumbent usually is not primaried if they can run again in a presidential race.
Because the party dissuaded them
Bernie? Sorry they already screwed him out of the nomination once
Vote Marianne Williamson... 🗳💚🌱
her take on gaza could be better
Down with palestine palestine isnt an ally
Left ain’t down with occupying forces going against international laws.
Thats the entire Democratic establishment in a nutshell
The Dems should pick Gavin Newsom because he’s literally looks like a president and Donald Trump likes him and he said himself it’s hard for him to criticize him because he likes him so much.
I don't want anyone trump likes
@@jessicabosco3009 I don’t want capitalism but hey
I agree and the best "mainstream" criticism of Newsom is "California!"
But all of the Dem candidates are gonna get some variation of the "blue state" attacks and Newsom is *by far* the best at countering them.
@@jessicabosco3009 Even if policy wise, he is probably THE second or third most progressive democrat. Trump also liked Sanders, but that doesn't stop you from liking him?
i would vote for Newsome
Emma halfheartedly making the case for Kamala, lol we're done here
Why we wasting time with this discussion the Crypt Keeper isn't leaving doing all this stuff is NOT gonna help as sad as it is.
Bernie Sanders
He's even older than Biden
Harris Sanders 24. Imagine him dismantling sweaty Rubio
I don't buy the idea that it has to be Harris because of the money. Worst case scenario they just transfer the money to Super Pacs/ the DNC. Sure it will be less efficient, but a new candidate can make up for it because they can potentially be much more popular than Harris and can generate more enthusiasm which will lead to more money. Also just picking Harris and not making her fight for it at the convention would be a bad look for the Democrats. That combined with Harris' unpopularity makes the money advantage not worth it for me.
Harris is polling better than they are. Besides, she has the biggest name ID. Do you think Black voters will be kind to the idea that the Black woman VP was tossed for another white man?
Bernie is the man!!
Trump’s first choice is Joe second is Kamala. Go with her he wins
He wins either way.
Truthfully, there really isn't much that can be done to salvage the dems chances at winning. Biden loses, Kamala loses. One of them has to remain on the ticket in order for the campaign to keep the funding they've already built. From what I've seen from polling/survey companies, the dems prefer Mayor Pete & then Amy Klobuchar over Kamala. I don't see either beating Trump; Klobuchar would probably do better considering how much of a powerhouse she is electorally in Minnesota, but the biggest reason Biden is behind in Minnesota & Michigan isn't his age, but his pro-Israel stance. She isn't any different. The possible candidates who truly can win against Trump (ie Bernie, AOC, JD Pritzker) are not in consideration and realistically won't be picked at the convention under any circumstance. After that, Newsom & Whitmer could win, but they are clearly lower in consideration. Quite frankly, the democrats need to be saved from themselves. There is no scenario where they can have their cake & eat it too; the party is trying to find a ticket that can 1. Compete with Trump's War Chest 2. Serve the ideological agenda of the mainstream status-quo 3. Win the presidency. No option available can do all 3. Quite literally, to avoid a 2nd Trump term, somethings got to give.
Thank Sam, Emma and Team. I really appreciate your thoughtful analysis of this situation. You gave me a lot to think about. The BEST,
There could be worse people? The USA has truly become a very sad country!
But if Harris stayed on in the VP spot, and the top spot was Newsom or whoever, wouldn’t the money be available to their campaign?
So then she stays in the VP spot because she’s what female or a woman of color? This is going to enrage many. Not me but others. Can you gonna put a white man before her, No bad optics there
Both are from California, so they can't be together. IDK why that's a rule, but it is. There's also the issue of Trump going, "it should've been Kamala vs. me, but she's so bad they had to find someone else. Do you really want someone that weak near the White House?" It's not a good argument, but it would be enough to sway some voters, which the dems can't afford. If Biden steps down, the party will have to thread the needle & 1 mistake can cost them the whole election. Right now, every scenario that is actually being considered has far more downsides than upsides.
Electoral College members can't cast both their Presidential and Vice Presidential votes for people from their home state. So we be guaranteed to elect Trump's VP candidate even if Dems win, because kamala and Newsom are both from CA.
