I disagree with him about fruit forward. His Meiomi has Zinfandel in it, I used to sell it and knew the winemaker.

I completely disagree with him re: Meiomi - absolute plonk!

100% agree and it always boggles my mind just how popular Meiomi is. It's a massive distributor though, and I guess people looking to try a Pinot Noir just hop on vivino, see the 100,000+ ratings and assume it must be good because everyone is buying it. If you didn't know it was pinot noir and just treated it as a random red wine, it's drinkable and not terrible but as a Pinot Noir? You said it, it's plonk!
There's so many better Pinots out there, both old world and new world, for around that $18-25 price range. I always recommend people who want to try pinot go with the entry level Burgundy wines, the bourgogne rouges, like Louis Jadot, Faively, etc. Much better wines. If you'd rather have something new world that's a bit more heavy on the fruit notes and less on the earthy notes, you can try J Vineyards Russian River Valley CA Pinot Noir, Alchemist Pinot Noir from the Willameete Valley, Oregon. Meiomi not worth your money if you're actually wanting to drink Pinot Noir! :)
