    I’m a 20 year veteran of the Tattoo industry and while some of this is correct some of it is laughable. Tattoo artists, for the most part, HATE doing cover ups! Nothing like being handed a poop covered canvas and expected to make a Picasso out of it. We ALWAYS tell people about the sun and the water because if it looks like crap In six months it’s our name on the line. We don’t all Tattoo things we shouldn’t or things we know won’t hold up. That’s called find a reputable artist. Some of us have morals and care about clients. I’ve been cussed more times than I can count for refusing to do lover’s tattoos! I’ve never had to plant subliminal messages for repeat business. If you are good to people and do good work the addiction factor will get them back through your door. They are right that all tattoos have mistakes. I can go through top Artist’s work and easily find their mistakes because I’m trained to notice them or rather I’ve used the same tricks to hide them but they are also correct that the average person wouldn’t take notice of the mistakes in a quality piece. They are right that large pieces take long periods of time. I can do a black and gray very basic sleeve in about 15 hours but a full color very detailed one may take up to 50 hrs! They are right about women sitting better than men. Women tend to be more nervous at first where guys don’t seem to get so worked up but when it comes to working the guys tap out first. We do have far more female than male clients. Of course females are more likely to get the “in” Tattoo even after being told “this is s fad and we’ve already tattooed 10 this week.” Guys tend to get outdated fad tattoos. For instance we still have about one per month try to get a barbed wire band. Yes it’s a small town and we have a few farms but seriously! The truth is that your tattoo artist WANTS you to know as much truth about tattoos as you can because the more you know, the more realistic your expectations will be which will make you a happier customer and a better customer to work with! Oh and you can’t tell ANYTHING about an artist by their personal tattoos! One of the best artist in the world got his first tattoo nearing his retirement. Most Tattoo artists are covered in really bad crap, especially ones who started young and practiced on themselves. I am the most skilled artist in our shop and I have NO visible ink. I’ve had tattoos and I’ve have several lasered off and get this...it makes me know what it’s like to walk around with crappy tattoos and to know I don’t want to do that to anybody else so maybe that unlinked artist has simply not found anyone whose work they like that well and maybe they are super picky which means they might just be super picky about yours too! That one was just stupid. I watch a lot of videos from this channel and seeing the inaccuracy of the one based on my own field of expertise I’m wondering how far off the other videos are.

      I have two people I know who are tattoo artists and want some tattoos, but one just got his full status (meaning finished his apprenticeship) and the other I had a bit of a falling out with. I get eczema and I'd like some more tattoos, but the places I want them, I do experience eczema sometimes. I've yet to have a straight answer from anyone on whether I should outright avoid those areas or if I can tattoo it, but have to take extra care. Not even my dermatologist seems to know whether a tattoo would do poorly with a bad bout of eczema or not. I'm curious if you know (since you've been doing this so long).

      I'm a tattoo artist in the UK and I can say we always tell people to avoid the sun, to keep putting on sunscreen even in shit weather and to keep moisturising ect. the simple fact is if someone fucks their tattoo up and they don't know why, it makes us look crap and people will see this bad tattoo and ask about it and think "right, I won't go there". Why would a tattoo artist want shit work walking around? We'd make more money off new customers by word of mouth than re-inking. Plus most tattoo artists re-ink their work for free if it needs it. And imagine getting a tat that fades, you wouldn't go back because you'd think they shit so we wouldn't even get the doe because we'd lose a customer to someone else.

    • @shadowmatrix0101
      @shadowmatrix0101 6 лет назад +18

      Agreed. When I got my tattoo I was given a paper with details on how to care for it including staying out of the sun and how to keep it moisturized. I was very thankful for how much they seemed to care about the tattoo they just spent 4 hours creating and after the money I spent on it. I became a regular customer because of that care.

      @nbucwa6621 6 лет назад +4

      Quizmo 71 How does a surgeon who has never been under the knife know he's not being too heavy-handed? By learning from the patient. People have different bodies. Having a tattoo doesn't mean you just tattoo everyone the same way you were. Others need a heavier hand, others need a lighter touch. Only w practice does anyone learn anything. Yes, some choose to practice on themselves but that's because it's easier than finding someone else to let you but its not necessary to being a better tattoo artist.

    I have 3 tats. My advice is, dont get a tattoo because you think it's "cool". Make SURE the tattoo you get MEANS something to you, even if your life changes and that image no longer means something to you, it at least represents an important time or aspect of your life. Something that just "looks cool" means NOTHING and eventually you will end up saying "I wish I had gotten X".

    • @boriszoloft5393
      @boriszoloft5393 6 лет назад

      Sirchud68 actually it’s a very good video. Could have been better though if they mentioned that you should check to see if the artist spore checks his autoclave to make sure it’s actually functioning properly. If the answer is no then run. They should also ask the artist if they make their own pigments. If the answer is yes then they should run. Leave the ink making to the PROFESSIONALS. If the artist doesn’t bag their ink bottles and equipment. RUN cuz they are dirty. U will know this when u see dried ink on the outside of their bottles. I could go on and on, and I won’t even go into the blood born pathogens side of things, or how some of the “professionals” reuse needle used on other customers. They just put it a autoclave bag and run it thru their autoclave again. Presto! A “brand new” dull needle. The customer sees the artist open the bag and thinks it’s shiny brand new not realizing that the artist was just too cheap to spend 2 dollars on a new needle. That leads into the actual cost of doing a tattoo. Ladies, that little hello kitty tattoo the size of a silver dollar the artist put on you in about 20 minutes that he charged you 75 dollars for? Well he has about 5 dollars in materials invested in that venture and probably just smoked more weed than u did just prior to getting the tattoo. Lolololol Oil!

Some people get tattoos because they like to have a reminder of something that makes them feel stronger. More over, people get tattoos because they like them. A simple question is not being rude last time I checked. I guess what you saying is a tattoo can make a person stronger?..how interesting. I suppose you want me to believe that? A better answer on your part could have been that people are really into themselves and is why they get them. I'm not about hating...just facts and reality unlike most people in general. Cheers to you and your (makes me so cool) tattoos. Some of the biggest douche bags on this earth are all into it. And I no longer wonder why women seem so attracted to douche bags among men. Truth is, women love a sweet talking, lying, and prideful douche bag over a guy who speaks the truth (all the time).

      @carikoco611 6 лет назад

      Questions aren't rude. In fact, I enjoy answering questions that people have about anything I'm interested in, including tattoos. When I read your comment, it came off rude and with a 'I'm better than you' kind of tone. If that wasn't your intention, I apologize. And just pointing out that your original comment was about "one good thing a tattoo does for you or any other person on this earth", to which I gave a couple of reasons why I and other people have gotten tattoos for. If you distill all those reasons down to "people [being] really into themselves" then that's your opinion and I'll respect that you've made up your mind about the subject.

    I don't know where the idiots who made this video got their information but even crappy artists will tell you to keep your tattoo out of the sun. Yes you can cause the most damage the newer the tattoo is but even 10 years later the sun can damage your tattoos. I got my fingers tattooed with my wife's name well over 15 years ago. I had it done by a tattoo artist at a truck run and even then he did everything but offer me head to keep me from getting my fingers tattooed. I have had my fingers redone 6 different times by 3 different artists just for the simple fact on how hard it is for the ink to stay in. After the first time most of the ink on each letter came out, leaving just enough to look shitty enough to make it where I had to have my fingers redone. Of course, after I had a horrible artist, (if you can call him that) redo my fingers is, that's the time the ink stays in my skin. I don't regret getting my fingers done, I regret using the tattoo guy that did the work the last time, he did a horrible job and now the only way I can do anything to try to make it look better is to make that part of each finger solid black

      you are so dumb to get your tattoo to your fingers. You should before you ink. Every artist here, If you tattoed your finger they will ask you if you are sure about that. Tattoo in the fingers will keep fading.

    Actually a lot of tattoo inks are now vegan(maybe 20 years ago they weren't). Unlike how this guy said "vegans wouldn't think twice" um...yeah they would. Also tattoo artist 'wouldn't want you to know these things" they'd be happy if you actually understood tattoos on skin and did research or asked questions. They should cover everything in the aftercare instructions or else you're going to the wrong place. Usually these videos are okay....but this one is so misinformed. Maybe actually go to tattoo shops and interview real artist instead of assuming tattooers like to keep secrets from people. They care about their art and want it to stay looking it's best for as long as it can.

    If the tattoo artist doesn't have tattoos, but does have qualifications and an impressive portfolio, I would trust them. Maybe they can't get one due to allergies or some other reason or maybe they just don't want one. Doesn't mean they have less skill or experience. Also, you can't always know if that awesome tattoo your artist has was even done by them. If it is in a difficult place then most likely it wasn't. Also nice, a Brendon Urie.

      LH Streaming this sounds like one of two things:
      You are being tattooed too deeply and the bumps are scar tissue being created.
      Or
      You are allegeric to some ingredient in the sunscreen. If this is the case, try getting an organic or one specifically for sensitive skin (like aveno). I get eczema and cannot use most stuff made for my skin cause of it. It does exactly what you are talking about.
      Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional and if you really want to know why you are getting that reaction when trying to protect your skin art, I would highly recommend seeing a dermatologist.

They’ve made sure that the tattoo in designed in a way that lines will stay fresh and crisp without bleeding into each other and every single shop I’ve been to has had vegan ink, it seems to be standard these days. Been getting tats for 25 yrs. The past 2 weeks ive had 9; both lower legs, both upper arms, both lower arms (both gona be sleeves) and a few others. Yes, its highly addictive. Yes, it hurts. Yes it sucks trying to get comfy at night. Yes you get itchy whilst they're healing and yes, you can doubt yourself for a split second if the pain gets real bad whilst having it done but theres pleasure to be had after all the pain. Once all the bullshit is over and you've spent time looking after them during the healing process the final results are great! If you're a tattoo virgin and considering getting one, be sure its something you know you can live with. Dont rush the decision. Take time to really consider if its right for you and whether it may have a negative impact on your job etc. End of the day, dont be rushed, make the choice yourself and be confident to talk to the artist. He/she may have ideas themselves and may try to sway your initial idea, but stand firm unless you like what they say. Cost is also another factor. My last 9 tats come in at just under £800 and im knowhere near finished. Only spend what you can afford and ask the artist for a price. Some will be happy to give a fixed price, some work on an hourly rate (they may work slower to increase price). Anyhow, have fun and dont get something that everyone else has got. Design your own and ask the artist to mock it up for you. Remember, dont be afraid of talking to the artist. Its your body, your money.

    Most people don't do prior research before getting body mods done whether it be piercings or tattoos. I can't stress enough that you NEED to research and be fully prepared for the process and after care.
    It's really simple.
    Think before you ink
    Research your artist and be as clear as you could be with what you expect.
    Have your aftercare available, and ask the shop if they sell any.
    SUNSCREEN
    Use a good moisturiser (don't use bepanthen, it's too thick and don't lather too much moisturiser on)
    Just don't neglect it and pretend it'll be alright, it's literally a wound so treat it as such

  • @marionmetathink3234

    "OMG how horrible is it that someone practicing a branch of work would appreciate having regular clients. I mean nobody does that. EVER!"
    The sun part : wtf man NO, tattoo artists want their tattoos to hold and DO tell their customers to watch out for the sun since THEY DO NOT CHARGE FOR TOUCH UPS !
    Don't blame the artist for the customer for their shitty ideas, they're the ones insisting for the name tattoos. Btw cover ups isn't a sub category, it's a very tricky branch for which there should be respect.
    Boohoo allergies exist wow. Big secret.
    Have you tried hold a tattoo machine ?

    This is funny, I’ve worked in the tattoo industry for 20 years, every aftercare sheet that has passed through my hands states very clearly, stay out of the sun and use the heaviest SPF if that’s not conducive to your lifestyle. This video oozes ignorance. Ahh the ever elusive disappearing tattoo... what??? I can’t even...yes they can fade, yes they can get worn off if the placement is say, on your fingers, hands, feet, anywhere that gets a lot of use because skin sloughs itself but any artist worth their weight will advise you on that so, yeah....ignorance is running rampant here.

    I have to say it that although some of these are right most of this is wrong as an artist and as a tattooed person you have grossly overstep your bounds we always talk about how addictive it is we do not thrive on cover-ups never have I ever didn't name as though you said every tattoo artist ass you talk so definitively and knew nothing about the true culture I normally like this channel but I have lost so much respect

      john smith I agree, my uncle is a tattoo artist in Cabot AR and he has been tattooing for around 30+ years, he's covered in ink and he's the only person who I get my ink done by, that man knows the business like the back of his hand

    I got my newest tattoo the beginning of November and I love it 😍 I'm getting another asap. I was also allergic to the ink once and had to go on antibiotics as it kept cracking and bleeding, that was when I was 18.

    This is something that from what I've heard they'd like to keep secret every time you get a tattoo they give you that tattoo care package with a adhesive in it. However if you read it it says to not apply to puncture wounds. And what's a tattoo? Multiple puncture wounds. I've heard it can also draw the ink that's supposed to be staying in your skin back out, if applied after leaving the shop.

    Every artist I have EVER had has always told me to stay away from the sun for 3 months. I also don't go by what the artist has on their skin, but what their portfolio shows. Their personal taste may not be mine, it doesn't mean they can't do what I want, and do it well.

    "Women are better at coping with pain" Could it be because they survive up to a weeks worth of severe stabbing like pain /every month/? Probably.

    • @christophercombs7561
      @christophercombs7561 6 лет назад

      Kuro Okami its still under dispute and tbh even though its anecdotal i dont know a woman who can stand pain at all and forget about temperature most woman i know are always cold no matter what and im effectively immune to cold if it was up to me my heater would still be off but the wife turned it on
      i have heard that being kicked in the testicles hurts more than giving birth because according to females kidney stones hurt more and a kick to the balls hurts more than a kidney stone from males do who knows

    • @lyndawolf7532
      @lyndawolf7532 6 лет назад

      Christopher Combs I've heard a lot of women are anemic. Maybe due in part to monthly pain I don't know. Anyway, I can only cite myself, 2 children, 3 granddaughters, 2 sisters in law, and at least 15 cousins that I know for sure are anemic so maybe there's a reason we're cold all the time? Just saying.

    • @lyndawolf7532
      @lyndawolf7532 6 лет назад +1

      Christopher Combs Btw, what does "forgetting about temperature " have to do with a higher tolerance to pain?
      Apples and oranges.

      Lynda Wolf maybe for me it has to be 0°f before i put on another layer i sware i have anti-feeeze in my veins i live in Wisconsin and have not owned a winter coat in 17 going on 18 years now heat on the other hand not a fan i can function but 80 and up brings on breathing issued for me i think temperature and pain thresholds are different pending on the person

    • @christophercombs7561
      @christophercombs7561 6 лет назад

      Lynda Wolf there have been several studies on pain thresholds based on temprature they mention it briefly in this vid but i think its silly as "pain" is subjective to the sufferer and largly depends on nerve density i didnt bring up temprature the vid did

    • @suzabelle-sunflower
      @suzabelle-sunflower 6 лет назад +2

      Peter Hill
      He didn't say it didn't exist. He said they usually don't have it due to how expensive it is. But some parlors do have them.

    • @jemjen1372
      @jemjen1372 6 лет назад +6

      Tirnanog Actually most of the top brands of ink are vegan and cruelty free including Fusion, Intenze, Alla Prima, Eternal, Bloodline, Dynamic and heaps more, they're aren't any more expensive than non vegan alternatives and chances are your local shop uses vegan friendly supplies and doesn't even realise. A common non vegan part of tattooing is actually the stencil paper which often has the ingredient lanolin which comes from sheep wool. This whole video was completely ridiculous and did nothing but spread a bunch of silly misconceptions about the tattoo industry, rolling my eyes the whole way through 🙄

    What are American tattoo artists telling people? Tattoo artists here telling you to keep it out of the sun light for a fixed amount of time. Tattoos always fade anyway. Also, why does a non Japanese have a yakuza tattoo?
