Hey, there are two other dumpsters around the bar in Evergreen Harbor. That means you'll have 3 dumpsters to go through. Also, if you keep some garbage in her inventory and put it in the dumpster, it fills the dumpster back up. You can essentially find loads of furniture because of a dirty plate.

I like giving and getting gifts. It's really fun tbh but I don't think there's an option to buy something from build and buy and give it as a gift (ex. A gaming system). It would be great for some story telling purposes.
LittleMsSam has a mod for the Flea Market coming every Sunday. I feel like that's a good one to have. Also you should create a dump lot with dumpsters and the landfill lot trait. Also there was a toilet outside her place. She didn't need to travel lol.
Can't wait to see how this apartment turns out! Dumpsters saved me during my rags to riches challenge. The dumpsters do refill sooner than 24 hours. As others suggested, you can put your own trash in there, or you can wait around on the lot (like, say, the bar The Caboose, where you can eat chips, watch TV, and use their toilet) and they'll fill up again on their own.
Love all of your videos! * Give her the Freegan trait and she will find better things in dumpsters. * Also give her the Glutton trait and she won't get sick from eating spoiled food found in dumpsters. * A few other commenters have mentioned there are multiple dumpsters in Evergreen Harbor -- have her keep her trash plates in her inventory and she can throw them away in an empty dumpster to refill the dumpster. * You could also enable the Sharing is Caring NAP which will allow you to take as needed from neighbors, of course they can take from you too. So much fun!
if you have Outdoor Retreat you could buy the camping shower, game table, cooler for quick meals and tent or air mattress for sleeping by going on vacation and using the kiosk. Likewise if you have Discover University you can buy things from the college kiosks, like the laptop and mini-fridge, once you have the laptop you could use Order to buy some other things.
Hi, i know some others suggested the other dumpsters in Evergreen Harbor. There's one near the bar and there's one near the lot that is made of shipping containers. One suggestion for your duplicate furniture items and the dyes - run them all through the recycler to get bits and pieces and then make friends with Tina Tinker. If you go to Tina's house, she has a fabricator in an upstairs room (seems an odd place to keep it, but whatever) and you can fabricate furniture items using the dye. You're still technically acquiring furniture without the build buy catalog which achieves the goal in your challenge.
If the dumpster runs out of stuff you can just throw something away in it (eg the dyes or spoiled food) - and that fills it up again. Saves you waiting! Just drag it from the sims inventory to the dumpster.
This is such a fun "challenge" and I've done it so many times. I hit dumpsters way harder though. Can usually get everything you need within 2 days., but the cost of replacing the burned things so that they're useable wipes out funds fast, even with selling the ones you don't use. When you hit up all 3 dumpsters in the shipping yard, (they aren't linked to each other) plus the other 2 in the neighborhood in the north, you really start getting things piling up. They refresh more than once a day, they're just not filled up to the top. You can just do a circuit between them all with a small rest between rounds. A nap in the starting dumpster works perfect! Fresh dives when you wake up. There's no need to cheese it by adding to the trash yourself. Funner to just do it how the game provides by itself. Also only the community lot dumpsters get the annoying competing sims. The three off those two lots are nice and quiet. The only things I've never gotten are lights, skill objects, and a trash bin. I think everything else in the catalog can drop, including debug stuff. I just love the way fate decides my interior decor. lol. Gives it a re-playability factor.
I don't see it being mentioned but the dumpsters are always empty when you first go to a lot, but they fill up after a couple hours game time so it's not a huge wait :)
This an interesting way of playing the game and I'd really like to see more - Maybe there's a stealing mod out there that allows you to steal anything? I've just found out there's a burglar mod!
You can put a dumpster on your home lot, eat a quick meal, put the plate in the dumpster and it will be full of things to dive for again! And you don’t have to worry about other sims trying to dive in it
Add additional dumpsters to the recycling lots. It gives other sims one to dive in and leaves one for me to monopolize. On more difficult situations I'll put a fence/wall around a dumpster and teleport myself in/out so the other sims don't take MY stuff lol (sometimes I put a recycler in there also). And technically, don't apartments automatically come with a fridge/stove/toilet? I think you shorted yourself. Considering you can't ad lib the dinner prep like you'd be able to irl if you didn't have counters, I would think you would be allowed a single counter since we can't cook anywhere but there. @@buttons256 I don't know where you live but I've never seen an apartment for rent without them. Ever. It's standard practice where I'm from. If you're renting a house that's different, but apartments ALWAYS come with a fridge and stove in addition to the bath, sinks and toilets. Now I speak mainly from experience of the Western US so I don't know if things are done differently back in the eastern states, but I would bet on they also come with the appliances. It's a basic necessity that you're paying for with your rent. Outside the US I couldn't begin to speculate on rental practices. To not offer them in a rented apartment sounds mad to me.

I've never seen a nasty stove or fridge in a rental. It's no different than renting a holiday house with a used stove to cook for your family, or eating out of a restaurant that cooked your food on a used stove. What a bizarre thing to say about stoves. Do you ONLY eat at your own home with a brand new range?

There's a toilet on the lot where the Humor and Highjinks festival. I was like yelling at my screen like I'm watching a movie like "NOOOO you don't have to leave the lot! It's right there!!"
You could also get a job as a scientist and make the ray gun and transform objects and hopefully get helpful objects from the unhelpful objects you get lol hope that made sense
Viewing the frog will give her fun as well as making her focused so that she can either gain handiness skill faster whilst repairing objects or read skill books faster .
Have done this myself before (mostly, did buy roof lights & curtains but that's all) through just going in the dumpsters in evergreen harbor. Put a few more dumpsters on this one community lot, fenced them off & only opened one up when i wanted the sim to go through them, so those townies wouldn't rummage through them. Also made them pass out, leave the lot if they tried to get into them as they sure can be annoying when they keep trying to talk to you. But yes, furnished this one sim's small home only through things found in the dumpsters, fixed up & sold whichever things i didn't need, and turned out well. So you'd indeed be able to furnish a place through this method, taking longer depending on the size of the house of course.
San myshunino usually has public restrooms in the world so you don’t have to go to community lots. You can also grab posters as decorations for free. Also I think you can rummage any public trash cans if they’ve been used. I don’t think it’s as lucrative is dumpster diving but you might be able to find some stuff. I don’t remember what item she find it might just be upgrade parts. The dumpsters in evergreen harbor can be alternated. When one gets empty go to another. You don’t have to wait 24 hours. You might want to consider putting on the sharing community vote option. I think you might be able to steal without it being considered stealing. If you wanna steal bigger ticket items you gotta get your mischief skill up. Also, you kind of mentioned it already but Living in Evergreen Harbor is best for dumpster diving. Sadly you would have to go through loading screens to use the bathroom and stuff though. Fishing can give free stuff too. You can also look for presents in the mailbox on holidays that give gifts if I recall. Hope that helps. 😀
Wait, why didn't she ever order food? It should have been acceptable for her to order pizza or something. Even ordering groceries should be fine, you just keep the food in your inventory until you get a fridge.
Your trash and empty plates can be put into your personal inventory. Anything that ends up in there: bikes, dye, etc can be put into the dumpster to fill it so you can try again for something better.
Its funny because i did something like this few months back. Not only did i get furniture from the dumpster but also had no money so she literally started with nothing but her apartment and pet
It'd be awesome if you try to get the stuff you need from career rewards. Actually, thinking, I should do the challenge that way. Getting a computer is super easy too. Just level 2 from the writing career. Learn the skills you need from the books!
Hello Brit I know you have mods in your game & after taking a look at this video I recently found a mod that I think would be up your alley - its a Dumpster Diving Mod which gives you more than normal from the BB menu. Now I am not entirely certain what all it does yet but I will giving it a play when I get to Orange Gen (that's the criminal right) of my NSB Speed Run LOL
When I dumpster dive I Stay on that one lot ...I'll add a toilet and shower on the second level,people are always dropping off broken frig,tvs,stoves and radios! I'll spend entire week besides diving I repair all the broken appliances lol so I can eat and be entertained....if you see trash around the dumpster sometimes you can drag it into the dumpster and I always reset anyone who tries to dumpster dive ...except sims who woohoo it refills also if you nap it refills lol
I would have granted a bathroom and kitchen, minus the stove and refrigerator as sometimes those items are not always included in rentals, so she would have had a toilet/bath/shower/sinks/counters/cabinets, just no furniture and appliances

Umm, she does live in an apartment in San Myshuno, there are public bathrooms down in the community areas where the vendors are, they might be filthy and leave a bad moodlet, but she can pee there.
It always baffles me how little people who choose to play The Sims as a living (not just Carla but all Game Changers as well) actually know about the mechanics of the game. I genuinely think they don’t ‘play’ the game as a hobby like the rest of us do, because otherwise they would learn how these things work - like the dumpsters refilling for example. It’s very odd.
I play the Sims every day, I just don't really use Eco lifestyle much. If you want to know how I like to play you can check out one of my many storylines videos. I'm not a gamechanger or sims 4 expert and you wont find any claims of that on my channel :)

If you wanna steal bigger ticket items you gotta get your mischief skill up. Also, you kind of mentioned it already but Living in Evergreen Harbor is best for dumpster diving. Sadly you would have to go through loading screens to use the bathroom and stuff though. Fishing can give free stuff too. You can also look for presents in the mailbox on holidays that give gifts if I recall. Hope that helps. 😀
Wait, why didn't she ever order food? It should have been acceptable for her to order pizza or something. Even ordering groceries should be fine, you just keep the food in your inventory until you get a fridge.

at level 8 mischief u can steal basically anything (including grand pianos and tvs) but u can’t steal any appliances or tables with objects on them
Your trash and empty plates can be put into your personal inventory. Anything that ends up in there: bikes, dye, etc can be put into the dumpster to fill it so you can try again for something better.

It'd be awesome if you try to get the stuff you need from career rewards. Actually, thinking, I should do the challenge that way. Getting a computer is super easy too. Just level 2 from the writing career. Learn the skills you need from the books!
An additional dumpster comment: other dumpsters can still be full even if one is empty.
Also If you go to the camping vacation town, you can get stuff like beds from vendors.
Just eat at the neighbors. You can make food but always can check their fridge and see if they have anything already in it
If you have realm of magic, you can use spells to steal items too.

Hello Brit I know you have mods in your game & after taking a look at this video I recently found a mod that I think would be up your alley - its a Dumpster Diving Mod which gives you more than normal from the BB menu. Now I am not entirely certain what all it does yet but I will giving it a play when I get to Orange Gen (that's the criminal right) of my NSB Speed Run LOL
When I dumpster dive I Stay on that one lot ...I'll add a toilet and shower on the second level,people are always dropping off broken frig,tvs,stoves and radios! I'll spend entire week besides diving I repair all the broken appliances lol so I can eat and be entertained....if you see trash around the dumpster sometimes you can drag it into the dumpster and I always reset anyone who tries to dumpster dive ...except sims who woohoo it refills also if you nap it refills lol

I would have granted a bathroom and kitchen, minus the stove and refrigerator as sometimes those items are not always included in rentals, so she would have had a toilet/bath/shower/sinks/counters/cabinets, just no furniture and appliances

Umm, she does live in an apartment in San Myshuno, there are public bathrooms down in the community areas where the vendors are, they might be filthy and leave a bad moodlet, but she can pee there.

It always baffles me how little people who choose to play The Sims as a living (not just Carla but all Game Changers as well) actually know about the mechanics of the game. I genuinely think they don’t ‘play’ the game as a hobby like the rest of us do, because otherwise they would learn how these things work - like the dumpsters refilling for example. It’s very odd.
I play the Sims every day, I just don't really use Eco lifestyle much. If you want to know how I like to play you can check out one of my many storylines videos. I'm not a gamechanger or sims 4 expert and you wont find any claims of that on my channel :)
