    Your story reminds me of the suppression the Dutch experienced during the Gerrnan occupation 1940-1945.
    I am afraid in the (near?) future there could be a 5th sign of Russia returning to the USSR: the construction of a wall on the border between Ukraine and Russia, like there used to be a wall between West- and East-Berlin. On earth there are more of such wall 'cases': the US-Mexican border (partly), the Turkish-Greek wall (Greeks and Turkeys don't visit each other in Cyprus) and the Palestine areas-Israel wall. I think it could last tens of years or a whole generation before conditions between Russia and Ukraine normalize and the two people have overcome the horrible past. When countries have conflicts they should use diplomacy not war to solve the problems. With a war the problems get worse and solutions become impossible.

    • @brianeleighton
      @brianeleighton 2 года назад +5

      You are underestimating the time until relations between Russia and Ukraine normalize. For instance, Ukraine had been trying to "derusofy" Ukraine to establish a national identity for basically 30 years. However, many in Ukraine refused. Kharkiv on February 23rd had predominantly Russian speaking citizens for example. They had street signs in Russian. Russian monuments in public spaces. They would protest any attempt by the Ukrainian government to change that. After February 24th, they have started speaking Ukrainian on their own. They are demanding the Russian street signs be removed. They are demanding the removal of Russian monuments. The children who are living through this war are refusing to speak Russian. When they grow up, they will speak Ukrainian not Russian. When they have children of their own, they will teach them Ukrainian and teach them to distrust Russia. I doubt there will be many examples of Ukrainians marrying a Russian going forward. Russia will be never again looked upon as a "brother" by Ukraine. The best Russia can hope for is that they can progress from the status of "mortal enemy" to "untrustworthy neighbor".

    • @-_YouMayFind_-
      @-_YouMayFind_- 2 года назад +2

      @@brianeleighton I think you should do more history learning and you will understand why they wanted to derussify. Since Russia was Russifying Ukraine when it was under Russia. Which wasn't their choice either. They had their own language before they spoke Russian.

    Even the Russian postage stamps were indicating, what's coming.
    From 2019 on, the definitive stamps with the coat of arms are copying the design of the pre-WWI Russian empire stamps so closely, that you have to look very close to make a difference.
    Previously, the WWII anniversary stamps were honoring the hardest fighting Russian cities, weapons, etc, but except Berlin, hardly anything outside Russia was pictured. In 2020, the stamps were "Berlin offensive", "Königsberg offensive", "Prague offensive", "Vistula-Oder offensive" - all hailing not the victory as such, but the offensive operations abroad.
    Adding the current events, like the planned so-called referendums to join Russia in the occupied areas, and calls for de-Ukrainization of the whole Ukraine (banning the Ukrainian language and even wiping the name Ukraine from map, see f.e. Timofei Sergeitsev "What Russia should do with Ukraine), it's that while FSB is going back to the NKVD/KGB mode, but Russia rather has a goal to go back to the 19th century Imperial mode.

    Dear Ksenia, the methods of dictatorship are always the same, even if the content differs. I am from Germany and during the last century we faced at least two of these regimes (1933-45 and 1949-90 in the eastern part). I was born when the Ussr and the DDR were still 'operating' . It was terrible and I am so sad that we are kind of 'going back in time' right now. The situation is bad for Russia and the whole world and I hope that we
    can manage it. Lots of love and stay save!

      the situation is bad for your world, because the dictatorship has come to you, the dictatorship of total lies, which is controlled by only two countries in the world, the USA and the UK. I remind you that under Hitler there was exactly the same dictatorship of total lies. Do I remind you of the outcome of this dictatorship of total lies in 1939 and 1941? I do not agree with you that there was a dictatorial power in the GDR! you have no idea about the GDR, because the modern electoral system in the UK is no different from the GDR! Did the people of Great Britain elect Elizabeth Truss as Prime Minister? Alas, it was not the choice of the people!. did the people of Germany vote in the ELECTION OF the CHANCELLOR to block the Nord Stream 2, with the final liquidation of the German economy? Because it is beneficial only to the USA and the UK, but not beneficial to Germany. all modern propaganda of total lies about Russia in all the world's media is beneficial only to the United States and Great Britain. lying of the media is the main evil in your world. because it was lies that created all the dictatorial governments in the history of Europe. Did you know that it was the United States and Great Britain, from the mid-20s and all 30s until the summer of 1944, that were the main sponsors of Hitler's party in Germany. But, they were not in the dock in Nuremberg, alas. these world's scoundrels sat down in the judges' chairs...! Alas! The modern descendants continue the case of the lies of these scoundrels from the UK and the USA, who were not convicted by Nuremberg. Therefore, today the world stands at the edge of the abyss of another bloody catastrophe, in which the United States and Great Britain, as before, hope to sit out, hiding behind the seas, having previously pushed the world into the abyss of military madness..

    I think that the nightmare that you have been describing is the very real shortcomings of living in the old Soviet Union , shortcomings that probably had contributed to its final downfall. When I was younger having had grown up in the U.S. during the Cold War, during the times of the Vietnam war and the black civil rights struggle I like many other young people of that time period were very left orientated and we had been confronting a lot of injustices here in the U.S. such as the senseless Vietnam war, institutional racism, woman’s equality issues and economic equality , gay rights, and I had believed and still do in things like housing is a human right and not a profit making venture,so is education and medical care, capitalism is for the most part unjust it is a system of one man exploiting the other and is the lowest form of economic system, we should have freedom from religion that only works to divide people, and racism should be outlawed period.Back in the day to many of us the Soviet Union was in many ways a shinning light. I was very sad to see it crumble , I think that the Russian people should not have given up completely on socialism instead of giving up on the USSR you should of attempted to make it even better “more democratic “ although it has to be strict to a degree because there will always be ignorant misguided people around that will attempt to destroy the revolution.
