I too bought a Chinese copy of the rig and transmit/receive is decent with one huge exception, the menu system and rotary decoder is a POS!! CW mode best for QRp 73/K6SDW

That's a really nice radio you've got and I'm thinking of getting one myself I've got a Yaesu FT-817 and I've had lots of contacts on the 20 and 40 meters with just the 5 Watts QRP and I've tried it on the 100 milli Watts and I worked a few stations in Europe and a few out in the United States but they could hear me no problem so it can be done if the weather conditions are just right and the bands are open so as I've said before I'll try and save a bit of money up and get one of these radios like yourself. Thanks and best 73's for now then cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.

I really enjoy QRP myself, really nice to make contacts on such low power. A middling good antenna and a bit of solar activity you would be surprised how far it will go. Regarding the yaesu ft 817 it is a really nice radio and I have one of them myself with the 3000mah battery. The uSDx radio is a good radio for the price but not just as good as the 817. Thanks for your comment

Very good. What antenna were you using? Just ordered one here in Hawaii. Originally from Co. Louth, by the way

Hello Andrew, thanks for your comment the antenna was a homebrew 64.1 transformer with a half wave length wire on 20m in a sloper configuration with highest point at about 25ft down to 6ft.
I am located in co. Cavan myself.

Thanks Aiden, that helps. This’ll be my first HF radio. I’ve got a random wire antenna on the way as well. Hope I don’t run into any issues with the ATU. Seems like this radio sometimes has problems outputting enough power to turn the tuner on. Thanks again

Hi would you share your settings? 73. W0AAV

Hi, settings for tx drive is set to 2 which is the compression and power output is set by adjusting bias settings. Bias settings on this radio are -- bias min is set to 0, bias max is set to 180. Setting tx drive and power to high distorts tx audio.
      Hope this helps
