I used to watch his shows on tv as a young boy. Thanks to him the world became aware that there is a whole other "world" under the water's surface. His shows were very educational.
Jacques was the reason I took up diving. I read the silent world at the age of 12 (1967) and was totally fascinated, but I was 21 when I saw an invitation to try diving with the BSAC at a local swimming pool. After that, I was hooked. I trained with the club in Tunbridge Wells, UK and stayed with them for 19 years ending up as the club's diving officer. We dived all over the UK as well as Malta, Greece, Egypt and Israel. Great times and memories. Jacques other legacy was to saturation diving which was chronicled through National Geographic magazine in the early 1960's. Well worth checking out. The editorial and pictures are fantastic; he was a great pioneer.
Captain Cousteau was a great inspiration to me and inspired me to become a SCUBA Diver when I was a teenager. And now I have a 21 year old daughter who I had trained in SCUBA and we can dive together. I had the opportunity to personally meet Captain Cousteau on two occasions, and become a friend of his son Jean-Michel Cousteau and some members of his team. For several years I was Senior Nutritionist for Shaklee Corporation, a company that also developed and marketed (still to this day), biodegradable cleaning products, some of which were used to clean Cousteau's ship, Calypso. The company also was a sponsor of the Cousteau Society. I myself became a Founding Year Member of the Cousteau Society. I have almost every book he and his team published in my home library and have a large model of Calypso in my home living room. So you can see, his early inspiration to me when I was in High School has had a lasting affect on my life. I am sure his inspiration has also carried on in the lives of many others from the generation when he was most famous, and who still SCUBA Dive today.
in France when I was a kid he was just another a local legend. I realized how famous he was and respect all arround the world only recently. I was really surprised. I also realized all the discoveries he made and his legacy when diving all arroud the world. Everywhere I go diving it seams to have a link with Cousteau: Sipadan, blue hole, cetones,... all are his discoveries
Without Jacques Cousteau there would be no recreational dive industry today! The equipment wouldn't exist , and there wouldn't be the millions of divers that started scuba diving after sitting for hours being educated and memorized by his TV shows. What Is there today to equal his show.Just read the comments here and you'll understand the importance of this great man, I've been places and seen things that had it not been for Jacques Cousteau I wouldn't have gone there or seen those things. Thank you Jacques Cousteau for a richer life...
Scuba diving helped me loss 20 pounds. Go navy go pilots I met him and collaborated with him at the Virginia Beach marine biology museum . Film documentary short film silent world and oceanic and atmospheric. Pressure. HE made me want to help our planet . He pushed boundaries. Thank Jacquee
I watched every show i could as a kid . Thats what i wanted to do when i grew up . Yep he was my hero and i wanted to dive just like him. I followed my dream and became a diver.
I used to watch him as a kid. I loved his stern but serene voice. I would devour every episode as it was usually on after my bedtime. But, my parents indulged me because my mother thought it might influence me to go into the sciences. I did become open water scuba certified but never persued it as a career.
The reason I became a scuba diver was because of that show.He showed stuff of wonder on the show and I remember thinking I have to do that. Now I do. Thanks to him I can do some of the same things that he showed.
Inspirational, I too used to love his weekly underwater adventures and took up diving as a hobby. I would love to see the rv calypso sail again but heard its having funding issues, hopefully one day it gets sorted.
I think we all did have that dream to be on explorations with him. Every time I SCUBA Dive their is a moment where in my mind I "hear" the theme song of The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau.
Yes I used to watch his films quite often when ever they were on TV. I loved watching the different colored fishes & sea creatures ALL IN PANARAMA COLOR!! Yes I miss him and his shows.
I love him. If not for him we would probably know nothing about our water world. There is no telling how many people he inspired to learn and film more. And they in turn have inspired a new generation. I recently watched a virtual underwater tour that made it seem like I was there. He would probably have been there making vr films had they been available. His series took you almost to the same point anyway.
Underrated legend! He is a God, without him none of this would happen, videos about what is the best fin has more likes than his videos and documentals
ĢOD???? What r u saying ?? You compare The ceeator and inventor af all this creation and God sustains his creatures with someone who discovered how to see them?? You exagerate ....the word GOD shoumd not be given or borrowed to anyone else but to The One and only God of the existance Who created everything .....
I always loved watching Jacque Cousteau on television since I was a kid..Now that he’s Deceased you should put his Son on Television showing everything like you did when his Father was Living..It’s Very Fascinating..
Hans Hass was the pioneer of scuba diving, just he and Lotte used rebreathers. It was Cousteau that invented the demand valve or regulator, that made diving simpler (and safer), and allowed for deeper diving (o2 rebreathers generally limited to 10m, 30')
I can not swim! But I am fascinated with the origins of and a out scuba diving and would love to learn how to swim and learn how to scuba dive! I enjoy watching and learning about the underwater world and especially d clils of scuba diving related shows including Sea Hunt and Flipper and seeing the actors and TV stars and celebrities who were on some of these shows and who I am amazed at how much I didn't know about them but enjoyed finding out about some of their roles or interests or was surprised that they acted in these shoes and either scuba diver or learned unless they had someone doing it for them but I don't believe that they did I'm sure that for their roles that they had to learn to swim if they didn't know how to already but I'm sure that they enjoyed it and I'm sure that they made memories of being in those roles and I hope that they made a hobby out of it because I find it to be fascinating I can't swim but I want to learn one of these days and hopefully pursue scuba diving if I don't get too old for it but I guess like they say age is just a number!

He was basically A gore before Al gore. Going around the work claiming human activity was bad. Meanwhile having a personal impact 500 times more then any average human! Diesel ship, airplane flights everywhere. Helicopter flights everywhere. All the while telling us it is bad. Thanks al gore senior aka Jacques cousteau 😂

He is a lifesaver and he is still known today
As a young child I watch the show with wide wonder. I was so taken by the show that I had to try diving and I fell in love with it.
in France when I was a kid he was just another a local legend. I realized how famous he was and respect all arround the world only recently.

I used to watch his documentaries when I was a boy and my love for the ocean and for scuba diving I owe it to him.
As a boy i'd watch his shows all the time. Loved them.
I used to watch him as a kid. I loved his stern but serene voice. I would devour every episode as it was usually on after my bedtime. Rhett Butler same here, I first saw undersea adventures of Jacques Cousteau when I was seven years old.
Inspirational, I too used to love his weekly underwater adventures and took up diving as a hobby. I would love to see the rv calypso sail again but heard its having funding issues, hopefully one day it gets sorted.
He was a childhood hero of mine! I wanted to study marine biology and join him on the calypso.
I think we all did have that dream to be on explorations with him. Every time I SCUBA Dive their is a moment where in my mind I "hear" the theme song of The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau.
me too Pete, me too - I have done some diving but nothing like the dream lol

What a legend.
I also used to watch his shows on tv as a young boy, far as i'm concerned the man and family are genius.
Thank you Jack
Yeah he basically is my favorite childhood hero.
My whole maritime adventure is based around this man, thank you sir, may your soul Rest In Peace!
In many ways we can’t judge people from another time on the ways they did, or did not do things, or their ways of thinking.
Great videos The silent world outstanding explorer ... to be remembered as great Actor of the aquatic environment.
Hans Hass was the pioneer of scuba diving, just he and Lotte used rebreathers. It was Cousteau that invented the demand valve or regulator, that made diving simpler (and safer), and allowed for deeper diving (o2 rebreathers generally limited to 10m, 30')
Thanks, my friend! Noted your valuable comments.am' from Srilanka. Keep in touch if you are a marine environmentalist. Cyril
I always thought Jethro Tull's song Aqualung was about Jacques Cousteau but I was wrong . Watched all of Cousteau's voyages on the Calipso .
Awesome video about scuba diving really interesting stuff.
Imagine to have seen the oceans untouched like Jacques did? Now you're happy if you see bleeched corals that are somewhat healthy.

He looks exactly how I would expect a Frenchman to look and I find that adorable.
The Legend.
A great look in to cousteau
The Italians where first to invent scuba diving, in 1942 the sunk two warships in Alexander of Egypt.
Scuba was invented in 1680
The Hooka Diving and Bathiscope were in use prior to Requlators.and tanks. who invented them, and what time frame.?
He is my greatx3 or greatx4 grandpa also I was born in June 11 and that’s why I am french
You're french because you were born on june 11th cool. That's a neat trick
I use this as invention convention idea
lets just say thank you to the man who basically created scuba diving.
bloody l e g e n d
You made me look it up.
Died: June 25, 1997
Im here after watching Money Heist Season 3 episode 3.Berlin brought me here.
I weept when his son died in the helicopter crash.
I know it's sad that he died
Lmao 🤣 every body dies. Including you and including me.
Pheobe likes him
Plot twist. Jacques came back as Stephen Hillenberg and gave us SpongeBob
Should the single hose regulator design originally belong to Ted Eldred from Australia until he sold it to Aqualung?

Met him in Portland, Or.Told him he was my hero. Short and smell of garlic.
You are so lucky!! 😃
He didn’t invent scuba diving, he wasn’t even alive in 1680 when rebreathers started being developed
A remarkable man, it's a shame his family squandered his legacy.
Funny how the word, "Engineer" is dropped at garden parties sometimes eh?
