In my experience the Gorilla Ultimate Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive works best for this application. It's thick enough to stay where you put it. There's no need for tape to hold the soap dish in place and it's weather resistant. I recommend Dab bathroom chalk to go around the dish to keep water from getting behind it and running the wall. I reckon I should made a video showing the way I do this and the products and tools I use. There's more than one way to do most anything. There often are better, more correct, or preferred ways to do things sometimes.

Which glue did you use specifically

The glue is 100% waterproof and spraying water (seemingly as a bonding agent) to prepare surface to mount is recommended. Isn't that a contradiction? Still recommended in 2019? Any specific Gorilla Glue product recommended?

Does duct or masking tape work?

If you glue it this way, how do you prevent water from seeping through the cracks without grouting all around the dish again?

They dont show you this but I would totally re-grout the area OR use a silicon bead all around. let it dry and then use the shower. I would not leave it with just the gorilla glue and nothing else.

Wedging a wooden board into a fiberglass tub like that is likely to scratch it. Put something soft around the other edge of it.
