God, I can’t believe Shawn used to be that thin. He’s never really overweight in the later seasons, but I completely forgot he was this strikingly skinnier earlier on.
He was not skinny, he was lean. And this was the peak shape of his life. I like him when he was more chunky, but frankly speaking, he was so agile and vivid in the first 3 seasons, remember when he would dance and make weird moves when he get a vision? He was so expressive, these days he would just put his finger on his tempers and that's it. It was different for sure, I think they all have their charm, I prefer the early seasons shawn, he was also much more rude to everyone, more raw if you will. Guess we all have to mature one day. X)
Yeah I noticed that too, it’s more becAuse he got older, he was like 30 in season 1, I feel like though he was gaining muscle mass for a little bit then it kinda turned into bad weight

I think the actor had a heart condition and the medication made him look like that - not overweight but kinda puffy.

See, Shawn was actually really really smart in the earlier seasons. He could answer academy questions and his observational skills were unmatched by anyone else. I guess he got lazy in later seasons... he gets outmatched pretty quickly...

Tbh I feel like it wasn't him but the difficulty of each case progressed with each season
I guess this is one way to see it, but I always thought of it as Shawn not trying as hard to make sure the SDPD didnt arrest him. The crazier he got, more shenanigans, just made it easier for the SDPD to let him slide, do his thing without the extra effort to keep it grounded.
I agree, by season 4/5 and later he felt less intelligent, as if they'd moved away from his observational skills to focus more on the over the top comedy, except the comedy was then at Shawn's expense instead of just funny. I hated that. The first 3 seasons are my favorite.

RR3ason Music he wasn’t more intelligent, he just became more laid back as the show went on
Shawn was certainly running circles around other characters a lot of the time in the beginning. I think they had to make him more and more irresponsible in order to lighten Shawn's/Roday's workload and to give other characters more to do. I love the writers, but it was almost like they were trying too hard to put the blame on Shawn when things weren't going right, such as "A Very Juliet Episode." ( *SPOILER WARNING* ) *
* Scott Seaver was in witness protection and it was his own fault (and perhaps the fault of authorities who didn't make it clear enough on how to hide his identity) that he put his rare Dumbo collection on Ebay, which lead to Shawn exposing Scott as stil being alive. Shawn got blamed for that whole thing. At first when Shawn was getting the blame more than he should I wondered what the objective was for the writers and it was interesting how it actually helped to keep the show more interesting..

I loved Shawn and Juliet, they were so cute. Though I noticed that most of the main women in Psych are blonde. Juliet, Chief Vick, Shawn's mother, Henry's other ex and Lassie's wife are all blonde.

I recall thinking he was lying. I’m %90 sure he didn’t copy. But yes from the previous comment, that was trying to make it less awkward for Juliet- for an unknown reason. He knew then he liked her, this could have been a great way to date her. As you may know, the writers waited til -s4 (or 5?) to have them in a relationship.
I'd guess he was lying to make her feel better.

Dude, I'm watching Season 4 Episode 6 rn and the Hindi theme song ?!?!?! WTF was that?! Also, all the horrible spelling mistakes with the names of the cast in Hindi make me wanna weep with laughter. They've managed to come up with letters that don't even exist in the language! 😆🤣🤣😂😂😂 Well, this is great because I was screaming when 'Aaja Nachle' started playing at the beginning of the episode and I was like "THAT'S MY SONG!!" LMAO I dunno whether to be sad or offended. Probably neither. I love it!

He invades people's privacy, is arrogant, obnoxious, interjects himself where he isn't wanted, refuses to respect people's wishes, etc... Yet the way the show frames the character is "omg this guy is so cool don't you wish you had his superpowers. It totally justifies his actions."
The show has on occasion paid lip service to these points but ultimately he is never shown to be in need of learning to change these behaviours and continues to act in the same way in each new situation.
He's a power fantasy for people who wish that [superhuman] intelligence could get you everything you want in spite of bafflingly disgraceful social skills.
All is forgiven because look at how clever he is. Forcing his presence onto others is fine because he'll ultimately convince them that they needed him there with his big strong brain.
Who needs an entire team of trained professionals to solve a crime when you have a singular clever-boy who cares mostly about showing off his parlor trick to impress a woman who has turned him down multiple times yet he still obsesses over.
If a stranger I had never met tried to show off how they know private/personal information about me as their idea of a chat up line I would successfully file a restraining order within the day and the courts would see it as fair grounds me for further investigation into the creep.

@Chicken biscuits Again this comment was a long time ago but I stand by. It I actually agree with almost everything you said. I don't believe that this show will turn a bunch of people into total creeps. I recognise that there is a vast difference between fiction and reality. I'm mostly stating that I don't like this trope as it is a unhealthy power fantasy and that I have personally found that the people who write and enjoy this power fantasy in an uncritical often engage in behaviour that has minor elements of the trope. I am in no way saying that they are implementing it to anywhere near the same degree but it's true of a lot of tropes.
For example people who write and enjoy the love at first sight trope in a completely uncritical way often do have a desire to implement it into their real life to a lesser extent. They may rearrange the narrative and omit details of their real relationships in order to present life as though it is more similar to the fantasy.
For any trope this can be harmless and I don't see the trope to be the cause of the behaviour. It is moreso that art imitates life and life imitates art and people are drawn to the fantasy that reinforces or justifies their own pre-existing beliefs.
To use a more extreme example have you seen the film God's not Dead? It is a Christian film that leans into a fantasy so hard that it arguably could be categorised as propaganda. The film relies on the tropes based in evangelical rhetoric towards the rising number of non-christian people. It makes claims that non-christian people simply hate the God and are trying to force people to reject God. It culminates on a scene where a non religious person dies but is aided by a priest to accept Jesus Christ at the very last minute. These ideas or not based on reality but there are a lot of people believe them with total resolution. The media we choose to create and be audience to (as well as how we engage with) can sometimes give indications to who we are and how we view the world.
As for your statement about me being very upset I can only say you have made an incorrect assessment. I understand that leaving a critical comment comes across as upset but I'm genuinely just fascinated by the relationship between media and audiences. My first comment could be summed up with the emotional of *ugh not a fan* but I wouldn't describe that as upset. Every comment since then has been pretty joyfully engaging with the opportunity to further consider my viewpoint on this larger concept of tropes and uncritical media consumption.
I would not jump to the conclusion that your comment is proof that you are very upset with me so I hope you can apply the same reasoning to my feelings in regard to fiction. Not only am I not upset by the things I am critical in of... I am often a huge fan of the things I am critical of.

She was always jealous of Shawn's relationships but never wanted him to interfere in hers. Lastly, when she found out he wasn't an actual psychic, she treated him like crap. He didn't lie to her. She was brought in as a replacement for Lassie's old partner. So the psychic ordeal had already transcribed. But please tell me how she's awesome. I'm curious
Jackie well for starters, she is sensitive and caring, always the one to calm Lassie down, and tell him to be sensitive. She also got a 98.4% on the detective exam, which put her higher than lassie. She is incredibly smart and well coordinated. And you’re totally overreacting with the whole jealousy thing, I mean she never made it obvious, and she never interfered with shawns relationships, she was mature about the Abigail thing. She was even able to get over her feelings for Shawn, and that’s why she went out with Declin, until she found out Shawn still had feelings for her after he broke up with Abigail, and she realized she still liked him. Also, she has helped bring in a number of criminals, including the arrest of her own brother. She is a badass fighter, don’t you remember Alice bundy and Allison Cowley. And what do you mean he didn’t lie to her. He literally told her she is a psychic the day they met. I know Shawn was in to deep and he really couldn’t turn back, but how would you feel if your loved one had been lying to you for 6 years. Also, lassie was in a romantic relationship with Detective Lucinda so obviously she had to be replaced, you can’t blame her for that. Juliet worked her way up from junior detective, to head detective of the San Francisco police department. I’m not judging your opinion, I’m just saying how stupid it is.
