That's the line! It's funny that I am watching this again aged 42, must have been 30 years ago that this was on TV, and it's still making me giggle haha ridiculous and funny.
Newman: Goes off topic and sets up Baddiel: Stays on topic and makes it a relevant jab Love how their styles work differently but still land the laughter
I don't think it's so much that they overlooked the fact that their comedy is stronger together as that they genuinely hated being around each other by the end. And, well, I think Newman has produced some quality work since then. IMO.
@KiruBanzai I definitely liked Newman more than Baddiel and was surprised and disappointed when Newman seemed to disappear from the scene after this series whilst Baddiel did more TV. Sadly though I went to see Newman live on stage some years later and he'd kind of given up on his own brand of lovable silliness and seemed to be trying to become the new Ben Elton. I preferred him for things like his 'painting' sketch.
@KiruBanzai Was there any particular cause for the rift? Or was it just a clash of personalities? Thank you so so much for this upload btw, these comedy sketches mean the world to me, I grew up with them and along with Fry and Laurie were a big part of my formative years! :)
I think it was that Newman felt like he did nearly all the work, and Baddiel felt that Newman was using the fact that he did all the work as an excuse to be cruel to him (Baddiel).
2022. Still smarter than any political discussion today.
I can imagine Monty Python doing a sketch like this. I am still crying with laughter after all these years.

@vapourmile Seriously, look up his latter stuff.
It's very political, but just as intelligent and whimsical as this stuff is.
