- “History Today” was created in the second TV series of ‘The Mary Whitehouse Experience’ and the catchphrase "that's you, that is". It continued throughout the subsequent Newman and Baddiel “In Pieces” series. The sketches saw two old Professors (Rob Newman & David Baddiel in suits and grey wigs) fire constant schoolboy insults at one another under the pretence of a historical discussion show.

At school, the boys in my class made up their own versions of this. For example: 'You see the Grand Canyon?' 'That's your mum's fanny, that is'.

I loved History Today
This sketch is from the 1992 History today tour, it was live at the Edinburgh Playhouse. I saw them on the same tour when they played Newcastle.
See one of those old worn out flick books where you flick through the pages and a badly drawn stickman walks along, that's you RUclips that is.
Rob Newman was outstanding ,Badiel was pretty good but Newman was way ahead ,a truly brillliant comedian
But of course the media wanted David as he ticked all the boxes

Do you feel they even scratched the surface of the debate? Even by the standards of History Today, they started in on each other pretty early!

Rob Newman always seemed the funnier more sophisticated one of the duo...but Badiel got some better lines here
