Don't care much for the vocals here, but that drummer is on point. Technically perfect on this shuffle is hard enough -- playing it with the Porcaro feel is above and beyond.
The drummer truly was the star of this video, Jeff Porcaro would have been proud, he was beating them drums like they owed him money. Excellent job. He absolutely nailed it, great tone, nice fills, and timing.
Yeah I've been recently trying to learn the Rosanna Shuffle on drums after a 25 year hiatus from playing and it is a deceptively hard groove to get right and this guy nails it like it was easy as pie. What's sad is the casual music listener just hears a "pop-rock" beat and doesn't realize what's going on with the grace notes and the smooth stamina in the right hand. This guy has it down pat.

Bernard Purdie is another great drummer (the Purdie shuffle) not sure if Jeff Porcaro got it from him or not, doesn't matter they both are phenomenal drummers. Check out Steely Dan's Deacon Blues, Bernard Purdie was the drummer on that song, another great drummer is Jim Keltner.
Joel could play this stuff with seemingly ease of falling off a log when he was in Jr high. Granted, he lived all things drums n has always been very dedicated to practicing. Still, a little freak of nature. Nicest guy you could ever meet too

That's not a slam on Purdie nor on Porcaro ... the saying "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" has truth in it and comes most likely from the entertainment industry. Porcaro was knowledgeable about 20th century pop music to a degree that few could match at his age. The bass drum part was adapted from Bo Diddley and Jeff's genius was in combining the two and seeing its usefulness for the tune Paich had written. The instructional video from 1986 where Jeff discusses this is findable here on YT.
That drummer is INSANELY good and beat-for-beat perfection. Overall this engaging performance knocked it out of the park, great job one and all on one of my fav 'oldie' tunes. Vocals were a 10 for sure, great lead and great backing vocals! Loved this rendition!

I grew up with Toto and I've heard dozens of covers over the years but THIS IS THE BEST OF THEM ALL. Absolutely fantastic. Drummer Joel nailed every nuance, vocalists captured every detail perfectly (great harmonies!), horns were needle sharp, guitarists supreme, keyboardists outstanding. GREAT PERFORMANCE!
As a veteran performing keyboardist and now audio engineer, I'm not easily impressed, but you all impressed the daylights outa me! Every single one of you is top-notch!
Also a veteran keyboardist with some producer credits, I’m the same. The musicianship was top notch. The female vocals could have been dropped a few db in the mix, and some of the lower harmonies up a couple, but this was TIGHT! (Loved the stick flips off the snare). Keyboardist nailed the synth parts both sound and action.
Great cover! So many talented people in one space faithfully recreating timeless music. The drummer kinda stole the show for me though. Laid back and in the groove, and great job with the shuffle.

I get the chills when I hear fantastic music. I am a retired musician, * if there is such a thing! this was way beyond beautiful, and way beyond anything I expected. Does anyone else get the chills when they hear something perfect, or is it only me? It makes my whole body tingle. You all did a great job. This was wonderful!!!
Spot on Paul - I remember the 45 minute drive home after going out in the mid 70's with the V8 sound on the outside and TOTO as loud as possible on the inside - this cover was so good I did get chills just like I did when I played this song in my car for the first time - so glad I was around in that era.

I've been listening to this video for more than a hundred times already, probably closing on 200. And I have questions. Why does this channel only have 12K subscribers? Why does the band have only 8 videos?? Why aren't they performing live in front of thousands of people??? Everything in this video screams *talent* and *tons* of it. From the unbelievable drum groove through through the excellent voices, the awesome guitar and brass play and into taping/mixing. I want so much more of this!!
Well, at least one reason is, no matter how good cover bands are, they're still cover bands and there are many around who do great jobs...on ytube. What makes the difference is original material and that is what, as the old saying goes, "separates the men from the boys". Just the way it is.
I keep on coming back to this one all the time! I have been a TOTO lover since 99 was first played on the radio in the Netherlands. The drummer is amazing and all do a great job, the mix is so pleasant to listen to and I do not get bored watching it! Thank you for bringing this joy to us!!!
