The movie was made in the 80s, but the story is set in the early 60s. According to the interwebs, an ice cream cone was 5 cents in 1962.

You should watch the movie. 🙂 Also, while the movie was released in the 80s, it's set in the 50s I think, which is why the prices are soooo low.
